The Success Of A Foreign Mission And Its Reasons - The Point Of View Of The Organization And Of The Expatriate, Joanna Purgał-Popiela Nov 2011

The Success Of A Foreign Mission And Its Reasons - The Point Of View Of The Organization And Of The Expatriate, Joanna Purgał-Popiela

European Management Studies

Although expatriation is an important issue in the international expansion of many organizations, research evidence suggests that expatriate failure rates have remained moderately high, particularly so in developing countries, in which they reach up to 70%. However, this evidence is widely criticized, as it is based on the most popular indicator of failure: premature return of international assignees, which in turn, does not reflect all the relevant dimensions of the expatriate success. For these reasons, the paper aims to develop a holistic approach to the success of international assignments, as well as to identify the key factors that influence the …

Competence As A Determinant Of Employees' Unethical Behavior, Dariusz Turek, Agnieszka Wojtczuk-Turek Nov 2011

Competence As A Determinant Of Employees' Unethical Behavior, Dariusz Turek, Agnieszka Wojtczuk-Turek

European Management Studies

The purpose of this paper is to analyze connections between individual competencies (moral competence, self-leadership) and employees' unethical behavior. The article points to theoretical premises which suggest that the level of moral competence and self- leadership can be an important factor, which limits manifestation of employees' unethical practices. In order to verify these dependencies empirical research was conducted on a sample of 206 people. The results show that people with higher moral competence show less unethical behavior (r=-0,380; p p<0,01) but self-leadership does not correlate with this type of behavior (r=-0.023). The article also shows the practical implications of the results and future research perspectives.

Motivating The Personnel Of The Sales Organizations In The Period Of An Economic Downturn, Krzysztof Cybulski

European Management Studies

In order the endure the period of an economic downturn in a relatively unscathed condition, a firm requires a successful sales force more than ever before. Motivating employees to achieve ambitious targets in times of market volatility has become one of the greatest challenges facing sales organizations. Firstly, the financial resources in such times are constrained, which somewhat limits the availability of using common financial incentives, such as commissions, bonuses, etc. Secondly, most managers are, in general, unfamiliar with some of the most effective non-financial motivational techniques. Furthermore, there is a wide array of myths regarding the effective motivational strategies …

Employee Relationship Management (Erm) As A Developmental Tendency In The Area Of Human Resources, Anna Lipka

European Management Studies

The article characterizes Employee Relationship Management (ERM) as a developmental tendency in the area of human resources. It explains why the introduction of ERM is indispensable in the existing demographic and legal circumstances. It also enumerates economic premises of this concept for the organization (including what is called "the loyalty effect") and shows its benefits for the employees (e.g. the avoidance of transaction costs). The possibility (though limited) of using the E. Flamholtz's method of discounted streams of cash flow for the evaluation of ERM efficiency was demonstrated. The tendency was located within such concepts as Human Capital Management and …

Identification Of Coaching Requirements As An Important Domain Of Operation Within Hrm, Krystyna Serafin

European Management Studies

Employee's investment in coaching brings forth large advantages for the whole enterprise. It accounts for building a positive image and position on the contemporary demanding market. It also enhances the value of the employer on the labor market by supporting the increase of motivation and raising the level of self-esteem. Nevertheless, coaching is only possible due to a functional and efficient realization of preceding actions, namely the identification of coaching requirements. Without them no coaching and no professional perfection is possible in a proper way in the full sense of the word.
