We present the first measurement of polarization and CP-violating asymmetries in a Bs0 decay into two light vector mesons, B s0→φφ, and an improved determination of its branching ratio using 295 decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to 2.9fb -1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The fraction of longitudinal polarization is determined to be f L=0.348±0.041(stat)±0.021(syst), and the branching ratio B(Bs0→φφ)=[2.32±0.18(stat)±0. 82(syst)]×10 -5. Asymmetries of decay angle distributions sensitive to CP violation are measured to be A u=-0.007±0. 064(stat)±0.018(syst) and A v=-0.120±0.064(stat) ±0.016(syst). © 2011 American Physical Society.

In The Slats Of This Small Town: A Collection Of Poetry, Maegon L. Mayes

The majority of these poems were inspired by actual small-town figures and instances, so the pairing down of narrative substance and the varying rhythm of common language are applied throughout. For this reason, most of the poems are written in free verse. One exception is a single poem that is near Tanka; that poem and a few other concept poems included are a bit more universal in content and are without the same colorations of fixed time and place, drifters that came to the mindscape of this collection.

Exemplary Practices Of Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Programs With High Pass Rates On The Nclex-Rn, Wynona (Nonie) Marie Wiggins

Baccalaureate nursing programs from the Southern Regional Educational Board whose NCLEX-RN pass rates met or exceeded the national pass rate for 2006-2008 consecutively and who had at least 60 candidates sit for the exam annually were studied to determine the practices utilized to have success on the NCLEX-RN. Fifty programs met the inclusion criteria and were invited to participate. Thirty programs accepted the invitations to participate in the study. Recorded telephone interviews with baccalaureate nursing program directors, chairs, or their designee were conducted. Most of the nursing programs were upper division traditional programs. Some also offered 2nd degree accelerated option. …

It has become clearer recently that the regular pattern of three flavor nonets describing the low spin meson multiplets seems to require some modification for the case of the spin 0 scalar mesons. One picture which has had some success, treats the scalars in a chiral Lagrangian framework and considers them to populate two nonets. These are, in turn, taken to result from the mixing of two "bare" nonets, one of which is of quark- antiquark type and the other of two quark- two antiquark type. The link between EBV infection and Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is strong, but the mechanism underlying that link has been elusive. We have developed a mouse model for EBV-associated BL in which LMP2A, an EBV latency protein, and MYC are expressed in B cells. Our model has demonstrated the ability of LMP2A to accelerate tumor onset, increase spleen size, and bypass p53 inactivation. Here we describe the results of total gene expression analysis of tumor and pretumor B cells from our transgenic mouse model. It is important for industries to find ways to find green chemistries to protect the environment and the paper industry is no exception. Using renewable resources such as plant material will be an excellent substitute for the chemicals that are currently used as paper binders. In this project, carbohydrates, proteins and phenolic compounds were applied to air laid, pressed paper in order to obtain a binder that is as strong as the currently used factory binders while being organic and renewable. The fundamental role of enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is to catalyze the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses. In addition to its catalytic activity, AChE appears to play a significant non-catalytic role of neurotropic activity on dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons of rat. However the mechanism responsible for AChE's neurotrophic activity is not fully understood. Earlier experiments in Dr. Srivatsan's laboratory demonstrated the binding of fluorophore conjugated AChE to cell surface of DRG neurons. These findings led to my hypothesis that AChE may bind to cell surface protein(s) in DRG neurons, and the resulting protein-protein interaction is responsible for activating downstream signaling …

The purpose of this study was to examine Thai governments' press releases in the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) website in two periods. The first period was from September 2005 to September 2006 and the second period was from December 2008 to May 2010. The two Thai governments mostly employed the social division frame in their press releases. There were highly different opinions between the groups of people who were against and those who supported these two governments. The hydordesulfurization (HDS) process is an industrial process that removes sulfur impurities from fossil fuel feedstocks prior to refining. This process includes the use of very high temperatures and pressures of H2 in combination with a sulfided transition metal catalyst. While the exact mechanism for the HDS process is unknown, there are continual strides in improving the process. Limitations in the current HDS models include non-sulfur ligands in the coordination sphere of the central metal. Attempted reactions of cis-[Ru(dmso)4Cl2] with tri-thiocarbonate gave the unexpected fac-[Ru(dmso)3Cl2(OH2)] compound. The purpose of this study was to explore the state of student early alert models at nonprofit, four-year institutions of higher education through both quantitative and qualitative lenses. The use of these retention initiatives has become a much heralded practice on college campuses (Kuh, 2007a; Kuh 2007b; Seidman, 2005; Tinto, 2008). However, despite a growing trend, little documentation of these practices exists in the literature. Five broad research questions were posed to describe early alert programs. Mercury is found throughout the environment with a distribution on a global scale in nearly all terrestrial to marine environments. Biotransformation of divalent mercury and subsequent bioaccumulation of organo-mercury species is catalyzed by sulfate reducing bacteria. Trophic transport of the resultant methyl mercury, a highly toxic species, leads to upward accumulation in the trophic structure of aquatic environments and ultimately to human exposure through consumption of methyl mercury laden fish. The potential for human health risk has made mercury a high priority environmental contaminant. Characteristics Of Extreme Droughts Inferred From Tree-Ring Data In The Qilian Mountains, 1700−2005, Yong Zhang, Xuemei Shao, Zhi-Yong Yin, Eryuan Liang, Qinhua Tian, Yan Xu

Severe droughts were evaluated using a tree-ring network of 12 chronologies (1700−2005) from the Qilian Mountains on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. A total of 98 drought years, including 78 moderate, 15 severe, and 5 extreme events, were identified for the past 306 yr. Following the starting year of a drought phase, drought commonly continued for 1 to 2 yr. The spatial patterns of moisture conditions in central and eastern China corresponding to 19 major drought years during the period 1700−2000 were grouped into 3 clusters, with one particular pattern showing droughts of nation-wide impact (i.e. 1721, 1928 and 1966). Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic in America. Children's knowledge of healthy and unhealthy food could be correlated to their Body Mass Index (BMI). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine if there is a correlation between children's BMI and their knowledge of healthy and unhealthy foods and to determine if any knowledge differences exist between overweight, obese, and healthy weight children. 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) inhibitors, commonly known as statins, may possess cancer preventive and therapeutic properties. Statins are effective suppressors of cholesterol synthesis with a well-established risk-benefit ratio in cardiovascular disease prevention. Mechanistically, targeting HMGCR activity primarily influences cholesterol biosynthesis and prenylation of signaling proteins. Pravastatin is a hydrophilic statin that is selectively taken up by a sodium-independent organic anion transporter protein-1B1 (OATP1B1) exclusively expressed in liver. Simvastatin is a hydrophobic statin that enters cells by other mechanisms. Poorly-differentiated and well-differentiated cancer cell lines were selected from various tissues and examined for their response to these two statins. Simvastatin …
