The Presidents Strategic Advisory Team (PSAT) was initially established by President David Schmidly in February of 2010. At the time, the University of New Mexico was in the midst of a funding crisis driven by the economic meltdown that had begun in late 2008. UNM had already endured several rescissions and reductions of state funding, and was bracing for the next wave of cuts. A Comparison Of Student And Teacher Perceptions Of Classroom Management In Secondary Band Rehearsals In Florida Schools., Susana M. Lalama

The purpose of this study was to compare student and teacher perceptions of classroom management in secondary band rehearsals in Florida schools. Twenty-one schools participated with ensemble teachers (N = 34) and their students (N = 749). Participants were surveyed collecting information for the variables of teacher expectations, teacher behaviors, teacher expectation congruency, teacher behavior congruency, and student rehearsal conduct. Demographic information was also collected for teachers, students, and schools. Descriptive analyses reveal that teachers and students had similar mean scores, however teachers consistently had higher mean scores for teacher expectations and teacher behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of music perception in predicting phonological awareness in five- and six-year-old children. This study was based on the hypothesis that music perception and phonological awareness appear to have parallel auditory perceptual mechanisms. Previous research investigating the relationship between these constructs—music perception and phonological awareness—has been promising, but inconclusive. Phonological awareness is an important component of early literacy which many children struggle to acquire. If the constructs are shown to be related, music-based interventions may then be developed to promote phonological awareness, thus enhancing early literacy. The changes in the human crystalline lens shape and its internal structure during accommodation and with aging are a fundamental component of the dynamic mechanism of accommodation and presbyopia, the loss of near vision with age. A better understanding of the crystalline lens changes during accommodation will help in developing new treatments to correct for presbyopia. Neuropathic pain (NP) after spinal cord injury (SCI) can significantly and negatively affect a person’s quality of life and is often refractory to currently available treatments. In order to advance the field and find effective therapeutic avenues; signs, symptoms, and biomarkers in humans should be identified and related to specific pain-generating mechanisms. Myocardial transcriptional response to stress is critically dependent on availability of the histone acetyltransferase p300. p300 is a transcription coactivator which is rapidly induced by hemodynamic stress in the myocardium. This induction is both necessary and sufficient to drive myocardial hypertrophy in vivo. Although short-term elevation of p300 may be adaptive, sustained elevation of p300 increases the risk of heart failure. The mechanism of p300 induction during stress is unknown. The downstream effectors of p300 have been only incompletely elucidated. In this context, the role of microRNAs in regulating p300-driven cardiac hypertrophy can be of potential interest. As health care costs continue to escalate, Congress, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), state Medicaid agencies, researchers, and policymakers are focusing on identifying new approaches to care delivery and reimbursement for individuals who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Although relatively few in number (9 million), dual eligible beneficiaries are more likely than others to experience poor health, including multiple chronic conditions, functional and cognitive impairments, and a need for continuous care. Fish consumption is a potential route of human exposure to the hepatotoxic microcystins, especially in lakes and reservoirs that routinely experience significant toxic Microcystis blooms. Understanding the rates of uptake and elimination for microcystins as well as the transfer efficiency into tissues of consumers are important for determining the potential for microcystins to be transferred up the food web and for predicting potential human health impacts. The main objective of this work was to conduct laboratory experiments to investigate the kinetics of toxin accumulation in fish tissue.
