This dissertation is a study of dry bulk freight index forecasting and port planning, both based on Artificial Neural network application. First the dry bulk market is reviewed, and the reason for the high fluctuation of freight rates through the demand-supply mechanism is examined. Due to the volatile BDI, the traditional linear regression forecasting method cannot guarantee the performance of forecasting, but ANN overcomes this difficulty and gives better performance especially in a short time. Some plants, when transported to non-endemic areas undergo reproduction and rapid growth and will out-compete native plants and become weeds. These weeds then become troublesome giving rise to socioeconomic and environmental impacts. Water hyacinth (Eicchornia crassipes), one of such weeds is often considered the world’s worst invasive aquatic species of weed, indigenous to the Amazon Basin of South America and has spread over the years to various areas in Africa and Asia. This dissertation is a study on the oversight scheme over recognized organizations acting on behalf of flag States for consistent and effective implementation of international instruments. A brief history of classification societies, which account for the most recognized organizations, is dealt with and the concept of recognized organizations and their significance is looked into in the first stage. The legal background of delegation of flag States’ authority to recognized organizations is examined, categorized by legal instruments developed by IMO and ILO. Culinary traditions have played an integral role in the Jewish religion from its very beginning. Families have continually passed down these traditions from one generation to the next as a means to preserve Jewish culture as well as to maintain their Jewish identity. The authors propose that one of the methods of preserving and transmitting these culinary traditions, traditions clearly rooted in oral tradition, has been through the cookbook. While gender-based violence is not a new phenomenon in Haiti, the aftermath of the January 12, 2010 earthquake further exposed the vulnerability of Haitian women and girls to gender-based violence and the limited possibilities for women to evince a judicial response to gender-specific violations of the law. Drawing from the experiences of Haitian lawyers and women’s rights advocates, this paper will examine women’s barriers to accessing justice in Haiti by drawing on actual examples of gender-based violence at each step of the investigatory process under the Haitian justice system. An Irrational Oversight: Applying The Plra's Fee Restrictions To Collateral Prisoner Litigation, Walker Newell

The Federal Prison Litigation Reform Act precludes prisoners from filing lawsuits in forma pauperis and imposes significant limitations on the recovery of attorney’s fees. Many states have followed the lead of Congress by prohibiting their courts from waiving filing fees in prisoner cases. The federal fee provisions have withstood a barrage of constitutional challenges, with courts uniformly holding that the provisions are rationally related to a legitimate government interest in deterring frivolous inmate litigation. Many courts, however, apply these fee restrictions in a manner that cannot be justified by the analysis generally supporting the constitutionality of the provisions. In both …

Introduction: Children from the developing world are more prone to going blind from avoidable and preventable causes. In Nepal, children in private schools are reported to have a higher ocular morbidity than those in government schools, with myopia being the major cause of the morbidity. This study was designed to evaluate ocular morbidity in students from both types of school. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, comparative study among students from government and private schools of Kathmandu. This paper demonstrates how using the word "carbon" within global warming debates severely impedes lobbyists in favor of building stronger renewable energy policies in the European Union (EU). Within the EU, carbon is widely used to speak about many of the perils of climate change, global warming, energy policy, and contingent subject matters. In political circles, media outlets, and public debates, carbon acts a the pillar for many policies, discussions, and ideas related to fundamental errors of transferring energy from fossil fuels and nuclear sources. In his article "The Spatial Turn in Literary Historiography," Fernando Cabo Aseguinolaza examines the spatialization of literary history in recent years. He evaluates the resurgence of interest in literary geography and argues that the geographic dimension is not the only aspect of the predominant spatiality in new literary histories. Further, Cabo Aseguinolaza postulates that although the emphasis on spatiality marks many current literary histories, all literary histories imply spatial elements of different character and scope and that these options constitute an essential part of the performative capacity of history writing. Prejudice against gay men and lesbians has continued to fuel negative attitudes that are perpetuated by stereotypes and by validation from those within one’s own social group. While there has been some research regarding the impact of contact on attitudes, the present study expands the theoretical approach of Allport and the empirical work of researchers such as Herek to examine the impact of adding media to interactive contact with lesbian and gay individuals. The objective of this study is to examine whether earnings management choices is different in changes of corporate life cycles (growth to mature and mature to stagnant). This earnings management behavior differences were shown by real earnings management and accrual earnings management. The real earnings management was indicated by three proxy such as abnormal CFO, abnormal discretionary expenses, and abnormal production costs, while accrual earnings management was indicated by discretionary accruals. This study is intended to test the effect of outcome on independent auditors’ decision, and whether the use of foresight decision aids can alter auditors’ ex-ante perspective to ex-post perspective in decision process. We use experimental design involving 206 undergraduate accounting students. They are distributed into four groups: foresight, hindsight, foresight+single outcome, and foresight-multiple outcome. We found negative outcome affects independent auditors’ decision, and foresight strategies effectively alter independent auditor’s perspective from ex-ante to ex-post perspective. We also found that in decision making process auditors consider negative information more than positive information, which reflects auditors’ conservative attitude. The results of …

The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of intellectual capital performance and intellectual capital disclosure on the value of the firm after an initial public offering (IPO). The Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAICTM) method is used to measure of intellectual capital. Intellectual capital disclosure in this research is measure with Zingh and Zahn (2008) index, and value firm is determined by market value of the firm.
