The independence number alpha of a graph is the size of a maximum independent set of vertices. An independent set is a set of vertices where every pair of vertices in non-adjacent. This number is known to be hard to compute. The bound we worked with is defined as epsilon = max[e(v)-eh(v)] over all the vertices in the vertex set, V(G). e(v) is the number of vertices at even distance from v. eh(v) is the number of edges both of whose endpoints are at even distance from v. Despite the phenomenal growth projected for the Indian information technology (IT) industry, one of the biggest challenges it faces is the high rate of turnover in offshore Indian-based supplier firms (Everest Research Group 2011). In this dissertation, we explored the following determinants of turnover intentions—social norms job attributes, job satisfaction, organizational alternatives, first order supervisory justice dimensions (distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational justice) and second-order organizational justice measured by the first order justice dimensions. In a study conducted by Hofstede it was found that over 50% of differences in manager's attitude was due to national culture; a portion that exceeded profession, race, and gender. Religion plays a major role in determining culture, and has an important effect on how laws are both written and enforced. The concept of intellectual property varies in different cultural traditions, and the dominant religion of a culture plays a major role in the how copyright is viewed and if it is respected or enforced. This paper briefly evaluates the cultures of three major religious and intellectual traditions to determine what, if any, effect their beliefs and values have on the respect for and enforcement of laws defending intellectual property and copyright.

This work has examines the creation and use of chemical templates for nanocircuit and other nanodevice fabrication. Chemical templating can be useful in attachment, orientation and wiring of molecularly templated circuits. DNA origami provides a suitable method for creating molecularly templated circuits as DNA can be folded into complex shapes and functionalized with active circuit elements, such as semiconducting nanomaterials. Surface attachment of DNA origami structures can be accomplished by hybridization of dangling single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) on the origami structures with complementary surface-bound strands. Technology integration in school curricula promotes student achievement, yet many teachers are not successfully integrating technology for learning. This phenomenological study explored the strategies of 10 elementary teachers in Georgia who overcame barriers to technology integration to successfully incorporate lessons within the public school curriculum. To understand the successes, we assessed strategies for overcoming barriers, intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, and professional development experiences. Rogers’s innovation-decision process provided the theoretical foundation and data sources consisted of an open-ended questionnaire and two in-depth, semistructured interviews. written observations, as well as guided and open-ended reflections to assess the perceptions of preparedness for the first year of teaching for special education student teaching candidates. Cooperating teachers completed the survey and Praxis /Pathwise observations. University supervisors completed Praxis/Pathwise observations and responded to and analyzed guided and open-ended reflections. The survey instrument was based on the research literature and included responsibilities typically required of special educators (e.g., completing paperwork, planning, assessment, etc.). Reflective Thinking In Elementary Preservice Teacher Portfolios: Can It Be Measured And Taught?, Rebecca Pennington

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

This study examined whether teacher portfolios can be validly and reliably assessed by investigating the effect of an instructional tool on increasing the level of reflective thinking in elementary preservice teachers’ portfolios. It also examined whether reflective thinking in preservice teachers’ electronic portfolios represented sufficient quality to make them useful in practice. The Rubric for Evaluating Portfolio Reflective Thinking instrument developed for this study demonstrated moderate levels of interrater reliability (r = .66) and sufficient content validity to be used to measure reflective thinking. Experimental testing of large composite specimens under tension or shear is inherently challenging because the large required gripping force and resulting local stress concentration tend to break specimens near gripping sites, rather than desired gage sections. A method using expansive grout materials has been proposed since the mid 1990’s. However, there has been no well-established design guideline due to lack of understanding of the gripping pressure developed by the expansive grout material. A fifteen-year plan has been developed for cobia (Rachycentron canadum) aquaculture in Brazil. Guidelines are recommended for implementing reachable goals within a reasonable time frame, taking into consideration current status of technology development, environmental parameters, logistics and market. This plan reports potentialities, constraints and outlines the infrastructure and operational needs of a vertically integrated (hatchery and growout) cobia aquaculture industry in Brazil. Children's experiences in early childhood programs can impact their developmental outcomes. While some high-quality programs promote children's success in school and life, the majority of child care programs are of minimal to adequate quality. A recent study conducted by researchers at the Urban Institute explored the seemingly simple uestion, why is there so much variation in program quality? The study focused on center directors—their beliefs and decisions, and the contexts within which they work. The goal was to identify what promotes quality in some centers and what hinders quality in others.
