Acting Virtuous: Chastity, Theatricality, And The Tragedie Of Mariam, Kent Lehnhof

Given the interrelation of female chastity and female theatricality in early modem discourses, it comes as no surprise that both figure importantly in what is believed to be the first original English drama to be written by a woman. As Elizabeth Cary explores a Jewish queen 's sexual purity in The Tragedie of Mariam, she does so by concentrating on questions of performance. Cary's title character explicitly abjures theatricality even as she embraces chastity, creating a fissure in Renaissance discourses on women that threatens to swallow up the antifeminist idea that female chastity is always an act.

College admission has become increasingly competitive in the internet era. This is especially true for the highest caliber of students and institutions. College admission is a process filled with asymmetric information. One of the biggest asymmetries occurs when schools admit students not knowing whether or not students will actually enroll. This uncertainty is economically costly to schools. As national rankings become more and more influential, schools are more sensitive to their rank and the statistics that determine them. The full irony and wit of Restoration comedies relies not only on what characters communicate to each other, but also on what they communicate to the audience, both verbally and physically. Hand props help foster this important relationship with the audience as props provide moments of dramatic irony where the visual meaning portrayed through the object complicates the verbal text. Specifically, gendered props such as the fan, the sword, and the pistol visually establish conventions for the sexes, yet are also used to subvert these conventions through gesture, appropriation, or misuse. This paper examines the screening of music notations and the impact of this configuration in a live music performance situation. Before the development of graphical computing, Traditional music notation, was rarely shared with the anyone other than other musicians, composers and analysts; let alone displayed during the performance. However, some composers experiment with scores and their visual presence in performance by employing automated ‘score-players’ or actual films specifically developed to be interpreted by musicians. This paper raises some questions and possibilities for this new way of sharing musical qualities of composition and performance.

Objectives: The paper accounts for the nature of Polish entrepreneurial activity in Western Australia. First, it examines it through the deployment of Bourdieu’s ‘forms of capital’ model (1983) used in explaining the entrepreneurial activity of Polish immigrants. By adopting a case study approach informed by the principal of ‘maximum variation’, the paper highlights considerable diversity within a small but significant ethnic community in Western Australia. Threads/Hallucinations is a musical work that combines sound installation and live performance using an eight-speaker array. The work uses spatialisation as a means to control the performance, provide an immersive listening experience and extend musical composition parameters. The work draws on spatial and electronic music composition techniques, sound art installation and site-specific sounds. This paper will outline some key influences on the creation of this work as well as outlining concepts and methodologies for incorporating spatial techniques within the field of electronic music.

Assessing student live performances can be challenging because markers need to make quick and often complex judgements about the learning while at the same time record information and watch the performance. This is further challenged where multiple markers are involved and moderation between markers is required. Maintaining fairness and validity throughout the assessment process can consequently become a significant issue. Moderation of assessment can cause a delay in the turnaround time for student feedback because markers need to meet and review. The uneven effects of EU membership conditionality on Eastern European reforms continue to puzzle the research community. Sometimes, the research focus has been too large, considering EU membership conditionality as a policy implemented uniformly across policy areas. Other efforts take a too narrow approach by trying to explain the effects of EU membership conditionality in single sectors. I suggest studying this phenomenon through a set of mid-level theories in a cross-country, cross-sectorial approach. This research sought to explore the experiences of students during their transition to a senior college. The senior college was established in response to the amendments to education policy in Western Australia that made it compulsory for students to remain in full-time education, training or employment until the age of 17 years (Department of Education and Training, 2008). Can the electorate's beliefs on issues be used as a predictor of vote? More importantly, do voter's perceptions of a candidate's position overshadow the party identification model? Arthur H. Miller and Thomas F. Klobucar (2003) studied this subject by analyzing the 2000 American Presidential Election. The aim of this paper is advance their study, by creating a more robust test of their model. The 2008 election is analyzed using data from the American Nation Election Time Series Survey.
