Region 5 is one of the most impoverished and insecure regions of Ethiopia. For decades, the region has suffered from a multitude of armed conflicts involving state and non-state actors. Region 5 is also one of the most underserved states of Ethiopia with some of the lowest levels of human development indicators nationwide. Although the adversities of poverty and conflict are widely acknowledged in their own respect, there has been little or no inquest into why poverty and conflict have prevailed under the same space for decades. The central objective of this document is the production of a scholarly performance edition of Franz Xaver Süssmayr's secular cantata,Der Retter in Gefahr. The editing was accomplished through careful comparison of the manuscript full score, the manuscript orchestral and choral performing materials used in the first performances, and the published piano-vocal score used by choristers in post-premier performances.

Franz Xaver Süssmayr, whose name is today remembered almost exclusively for his completion of Mozart's Requiem, was a popular and respected Viennese composer in his own right. His opera, Der Spiegel von Arkadien (1794), was performed throughout Europe, and was favorably compared …

There are many rural towns in the United States that are struggling economically. While many suffer population loss through out-migration, others continue to thrive. This project focuses on two rural communities: Fort Benton in central Montana and Watford City in western North Dakota. The research sets out to provide an understanding of how these towns prosper while maintaining their rural lifestyle. This document introduces Robert Schumann’s Liederkreis Heine, Op. 24 Nos. 1,4,5,6,and 9, Marina’s Aria from Boris Godunov by Modest Musorgsky, Siete Canciones Populares Españolas by Manuel de Falla, Airs Chantés by Francis Poulenc, and Songs from Letters by Libby Larsen. Each of these works is presented with a brief history of composer as well as relevant historical context and information regarding the origins of the texts. A short analysis of both text and music completes each chapter.

The Black X-Men: Where Are They In The Narrative, Lenzy T. Jones

The purpose of the paper is to perform an analysis on the Marvel Comic Uncanny X-Men. The goal of this analysis is to understand Black characters location in the narrative and their level of participation in the narrative. The result is that Black characters are underrepresented in the comic as main characters and show a lack of participation in the overall narrative.

America’s elected representatives do many things well, but making firearms policies and assessing Supreme Court nominees are two with which they have struggled.

Gun control is one of the most volatile public policy issues. Many contend that a heavy price is paid every day because of inadequate controls on firearms. Others believe that legal restrictions on guns are counterproductive and that the freedom to have guns is in peril. This gun control versus gun rights debate has become deeply enmeshed in the political culture wars.

This article looks at the "top ten" environmental laws enacted in the 1970s, including the Clean Air Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. It asks: What were the pin-up qualities that made these laws look good on paper? What were the features sponsors bragged about or critics deplored? How were they understood and described at the time of legislative birth? What was thought to be new, different, and better?

We know some of these things about all of these laws. I’ll exercise editorial judgment and declare four common features …

This thesis investigates my lack of childhood memories and documents how my artwork stands in as a substitute for that lost memory. The first part of the thesis analyzes my early life and influences; the second part analyzes my art making and process. The narrative style of writing is intentionally autobiographical to mimic the narrative style and structure of the thesis installation. My upbringing, interests, creative process, access to materials, and inspiration are fully explored. The impact my early life has on my current work is evident. The research investigated the artistic and photographic processes corresponding with two studies motivated by the artist's personal history and focused on the role, affect, and history of various female idols represented in art history, religion, and modern American popular media. The first part of the study documented female models as they were simultaneously asked by the artist to think of a range of personal but nonspecific moments from her life, the women were asked not to share their thoughts, only the moment spent thinking, with the artist. A recent digitalization project of the textual and iconographical fund of Department of Archaeology Library of the Catania University, one of the largest and oldest among Italian academies, presented the challenging problem of the iconographical resources on glass plates coated by silver halide. The Library has an archive of about 3,000 glass plates. Several of these are damaged and fractured. Acquisition of these images with a scanner or with a digital camera, after a manual recomposing of the sherds, leaves badly visible gaps and fracture lines. This happens because of an uncorrect alignment of the fragments or for the lost …

Communities have always relied on the contributions of their small businesspersons in order to prosper; so when small enterprise suffers, we all suffer. Our team proposes to empower small enterprises in DFW, particularly in Vickery Meadow, through microloans ranging anywhere from $250 to $750. Using our connections in the community, we will find qualified loan recipients and tailor our clientele’s loans and repayment methods to individual needs. Through microloans, private enterprisers will have the power to better both themselves and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Re/Turning To Her: An A/R/Tographic Ritual Inquiry, Barbara Bickel, Tannis Hugill

This article reaches into the depths of a collaborative a/r/tographic ritual inquiry between two women artist-educators-priestesses. Within this we reflect on the intersections of research, art, spirituality, and education as thresholds of collaborative learning. Throughout the ritual-infused research process, we generated source material and imagery from trance, Authentic Movement, the labyrinth, reflective writing and co-interviews. Each of these process practices took us outside of ourselves, and attuned us to Spirit, offering a larger perspective on the inquiry while simultaneously bringing us closer to actualizing the performance ritual. Acting Virtuous: Chastity, Theatricality, And The Tragedie Of Mariam, Kent Lehnhof

Given the interrelation of female chastity and female theatricality in early modem discourses, it comes as no surprise that both figure importantly in what is believed to be the first original English drama to be written by a woman. As Elizabeth Cary explores a Jewish queen 's sexual purity in The Tragedie of Mariam, she does so by concentrating on questions of performance. Cary's title character explicitly abjures theatricality even as she embraces chastity, creating a fissure in Renaissance discourses on women that threatens to swallow up the antifeminist idea that female chastity is always an act.
