Clarence Darrow Trial Re-Enactment
As part of our law school centennial celebration we have arranged a truly special event. In recreating the atmosphere of 1911, the year the law school was founded, we decided to reenact the trial of Clarence Darrow for bribing jurors in Los Angeles. Darrow was actually put on trial twice, with one acquittal and one hung jury, but the verdict of historians is still divided. We have lined up an all-star cast for the re-enactment. Darrow himself will be portrayed by U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer. His defense lawyer will be nationally known law professor and defense attorney Michael Tigar. …

Resolution, Reinvestment, And Realignment: Three Strategies For Changing Juvenile Justice, Jeffrey A. Butts, Douglas N. Evans
Publications and Research
In recent decades, legislators and administrators have created innovative policies to reduce the demand for expensive state confinement and to supervise as many young offenders as possible in their own communities. This report reviews the history and development of these strategies and portrays their methods as following one of three models: resolution, reinvestment, and realignment.

Parental Acceptance-Rejection Theory And Court-Involved Adolescent Females: An Exploration Of Parent-Child Relationships, Teacher-Student Relationships, And Adolescent Socio-Emotional Functioning, Kathleen S. Tillman
Theses and Dissertations
Although the current literature provides a limited description of court-involved adolescent females, research that examines their unique characteristics is scarce and fails to adequately address the psychological, developmental, and interpersonal needs of these young women (Calhoun, Jurgens, & Chen, 1993; Girls Study Group, 2008). Consequently, the purpose of the current study was twofold. First, the study sought to understand court-involved adolescents' experiences with mental illness and maternal, paternal, and teacher rejection. Second, the study sought to examine whether the assumptions of the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Theory (PARTheory) could be applied to understand predictors and correlates of social and emotional functioning among …

Leisure, Organised Sport And Antisocial Behaviour An Examination Of Youth’S Involvement In Leisure, Organised Sports And Its Effect On Antisocial Behaviour, Ann Meenagh
Dissertations
Over the last ten years national strategies and policies placed youth at the forefront of their developments. Particular attention has been placed on antisocial behaviour and the appropriate punishments and rehabilitation methods. Programmes have been developed with the objective to deter antisocial behaviours with little empirical support to justify them. This study aims to determine whether youth’s involvement in leisure and sport has any effect on their involvement in antisocial or delinquent behaviour. This is mainly achieved through the quantitative research method of a survey. Sixty-five people aged between 14-20 years old from two contrasting educational institutions in Dublin were …
