Assessing The Need For A Community Court In Milwaukee’S 5th Police District, Andrea K. Gouin
Assessing The Need For A Community Court In Milwaukee’S 5th Police District, Andrea K. Gouin
Professional Projects
The criminal justice system has become the default mechanism for addressing problems deriving from communities that are impoverished and lacking strong informal social controls. The legitimacy of the system has been called into question by its failure to resolve many issues that are more social in nature than criminal. Community courts are a promising approach for restoring lost legitimacy to the criminal justice system. This project assesses the need for a community court in Milwaukee’s 5th Police District to address quality-of-life concerns that may not be adequately addressed in the traditional criminal justice system. Archival data about District 5 community …

Personal History Of Violence And Response To Violence: A Quantitative And Free-Response Study Focusing On College-Age Students, Margaret Haswell
Personal History Of Violence And Response To Violence: A Quantitative And Free-Response Study Focusing On College-Age Students, Margaret Haswell
Social Work Theses
This study examined the relationship between people’s history with violence and how they responded to a graphically violent real-life video. A review of the literature revealed there had been extensive research done about the effects of media and violence on individuals, yet there is a lack of evidence about the effect that violent home footage can have on college-aged students. This relational study utilized a questionnaire that included both a Likert scale and a free-response portion with 25 undergraduate students rating their relationship with violence in the past and their response to a violent video. Greater prior exposure to violence …
Prescription Drug Abuse And Diversion Increase With Age, Don Wunderlin
Prescription Drug Abuse And Diversion Increase With Age, Don Wunderlin
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
This study conducted a secondary analysis of quantitative data collected from 2005 through 2009 from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The study found that prescription drug abuse and diversion from 2005 through 2009 showed an increasing usage, which is dependent upon age and drug category. While those aged 18-25 demonstrated higher nonmedical use of prescription drugs for three drug categories, those aged 50 and older were determined to have a higher usage in only one drug category. Overall the study determined that after age 50 nonmedical use of prescription drug and therefore diversion begins to drop significantly …
Stress And Cataloging Paraprofessionals In Academic And Public Libraries In Florida, Edna Mcclellan
Stress And Cataloging Paraprofessionals In Academic And Public Libraries In Florida, Edna Mcclellan
The Southeastern Librarian
Over the years and particularly with the advent of OCLC, more and more tasks once considered the realm of the professional cataloger area being completed by paraprofessionals. This article confines itself to the cataloging paraprofessional, the cataloging record, workload, and training. Who is creating the cataloging record, or, if not responsible for the record in its entirety, who is responsible for parts of it? Does the assuming these higher level tasks, such as creating the call number and subject headings, cause any undue stress for the paraprofessional? What is the stress from workload and pace?

Surviving As A Runaway: Services For This Population, Noelia Sanchez
Surviving As A Runaway: Services For This Population, Noelia Sanchez
Theses Digitization Project
There are thousands of children who run away from their homes each year for a variety of reasons. These children involved themselves in risky behaviors to survive while on the streets. This has been an ongoing problem that many have tried to alleviate by providing- different types of resources throughout the United States. However, there is more that could be done to help our youth stay safe. This population should be of great concern to society because they are part of the future.
This study looked into what runaways have to do to survive while on the streets by interviewing …

Exploring The Construct Validity Of Academic Self-Regulation Using A New Self-Report Questionnaire – The Survey Of Academic Self-Regulation, Heidi L. Andrade, Ronald F. Dugan
Educational & Counseling Psychology Faculty Scholarship
Using correlation, factor, regression, and reliability analyses, this research explored thenature of Academic Self-Regulation (ASR) while simultaneously establishing the construct validity of a new self-report questionnaire; the Survey of Academic Self-Regulation (SASR). The SASR was pilot-tested (N = 205) and cross-validated (N = 491) on samples of college students from upstate New York. Exploratory factor analyses were used to both extract a six factor structure from the SASR (Extrinsic Motivation, Intrinsic Motivation,Metacognition, Personal Relevance and Control, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Regulation) and to explore the current state of the ASR construct. The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory and Motivated Strategies for Learning …

Episcopal Applicants To Ordained Ministry: Are They Psychological Healthy?, Thomas G. Plante, Christopher Apodaca
Episcopal Applicants To Ordained Ministry: Are They Psychological Healthy?, Thomas G. Plante, Christopher Apodaca
Psychology
The current investigation evaluated psychological and personality profiles of applicants to the diaconate and priesthood for several Episcopal dioceses. Applicants included both genders and their ages ranged from 29 to 67 years. A psychological testing battery including the MMPI-2, 16PF, and MCMI-III was administered to 42 applicants between 2008 and 2009 who subsequently entered the diaconate or priestly formation program in the Episcopal Church. Results indicate that these applicants were generally well-adjusted. Findings also suggest some tendency for defensiveness, repression, naïveté, and a strong need for affection, as well as for being emotionally stable, intelligent, trusting, and open to change. …

Homelessness And The Mobile Shelter System: Public Transportation As Shelter, Laura Nichols, Fernando Cázares
Homelessness And The Mobile Shelter System: Public Transportation As Shelter, Laura Nichols, Fernando Cázares
Sociology
Those without housing often use public space differently than those who are housed. This can cause dilemmas for and conflicts among public officials as guardians of public space and goods. In this paper, we look at one such utilisation of space from the perspective of those who board 24-hour public transportation routes and ride the bus all night for shelter. We describe the results of a preliminary survey, observations and informal conversations with unhoused riders on the bus over three nights in one county in the United States. We found that a substantial number of the unhoused riders we surveyed …
