Transformational Learning For Organizational Change: Exploring Employee Experiences With A Student Affairs Workplace Professional Development Program, Katherine Erin Vahey
Transformational Learning For Organizational Change: Exploring Employee Experiences With A Student Affairs Workplace Professional Development Program, Katherine Erin Vahey
Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to explore a professional development curriculum in an institution of higher education. This case study advocates that all student affairs employees undergo continuous professional development training to provide collective understanding of essential workplace concepts necessary for effective organizational development. The research question-- How do student affairs employees experience workplace training as it contributes to organizational development?--addresses the confluence of two areas of higher education literature: transformative learning for education practitioner's professional growth and best practices for higher education organizational development. Using a constructivist, case study-narrative design, this research explores employee experiences with a professional …

About The Human Condition In The Works Of Dickens And Marx, Ami E. Stearns, Thomas J. Burns
About The Human Condition In The Works Of Dickens And Marx, Ami E. Stearns, Thomas J. Burns
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In their article "About the Human Condition in the Works of Dickens and Marx" Ami E. Stearns and Thomas J. Burns contribute to the study of Charles Dickens's Industrial Revolution-era fiction by examining his novels in relation to Karl Marx's social philosophy. Stearns and Burns postulate that Dickens relies on Marxist concepts of class consciousness, sacrifice, revolution, social antitheses, and social injustice to weave his narratives and compare and discuss six of Dickens' novels: A Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, and Great Expectations with three works of Marx: Grundrisse, The Communist Manifesto, …

Now You See It, Now You Don't: Biblical Perspectives On The Relationship Between Magic And Religion, Shawna Dolansky, David A. Allred
BYU Studies
Defining terms is a foundational task in academic studies, and a clear example of its importance is in the ongoing debates on the relationship between magic and religion. Because of the various ways in which magic has been defined over time and because of the negative connotations that can accompany some definitions, explorations of magic and religion are rife with misunderstanding and ethnocentrism, most famously dating back to the milieu of cultural evolution that characterized nineteenth-century anthropology, especially in the works of Edward B. Taylor and James G. Frazer. However, questions about the relationship between magic and religion go back …
Avoiding Engagement With 'Invisibles:' Religious Issues And The Field Of English Education, Robert Bruce
Avoiding Engagement With 'Invisibles:' Religious Issues And The Field Of English Education, Robert Bruce
All Dissertations
This study used content analysis of selected documents representing the three dimensions of the field of English Education (curriculum, teacher preparation and development, and research) to ascertain how the field was responding to the larger societal problem that religious intolerance and ignorance pose, especially given the growing religious diversity of American society. Data from the documents were classified into four categories derived from various proposals for the incorporation of religious issues into the public school curriculum: religious literacy, religious concerns related to personal development, religious aspects of multiculturalism, and religious issues related to improved civic engagement.
The documents related to …

Ex Corde Ecclesiae And Catholic Higher Education In America, James A. Caridi
Ex Corde Ecclesiae And Catholic Higher Education In America, James A. Caridi
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This research assessed Ex Corde Ecclesiae within American Catholic higher education from the perspective of presidents and academicians who oversee or teach within theology or religious studies. Pope John Paul II’s Ex Corde Ecclesiae outlines the theological essence of the Catholic University and details its specific responsibilities toward providing an authentic Catholic experience. It is valuable to examine whether Catholic postsecondary presidents and academicians believe their institutions are fulfilling these expectations.
Specifically, this research explored how presidents understand and value Ex Corde Ecclesiae and whether they believe their institution has achieved progress toward its prescribed norms. Similarly, this research surveyed …

Dualities And Women's Wisdom In Hinduism: Voss Roberts On Lallesvari Of Kashmir, Lance Nelson
Journal of Hindu-Christian Studies
The stereotype of the dualist West versus the nondualist East has far outlived whatever usefulness it may have had. As one who has been concerned with this issue in my own work, I am happy to see Michelle Voss Roberts addressing it methodically and effectively n her Dualities: A Theology of Difference. She gives us in this book a multi-leveled study that advances this discussion dramatically on a number of interconnected fronts, both theological and ethical, encompassing wide-ranging feminist, ecological, and social justice concerns. I find myself in enthusiastic agreement with much that she writes. In what follows I …
