This study examines the deployment of Wireless E9-1-1 Phase One and Wireless E9-1-1 Phase Two as a diffusion of innovation. The research method used in this study is a cross-sectional study employing secondary data in a discriminant function analysis. The study population is Virginia units of local governments (95 counties and 39 cities) that had not deployed Wireless E9-1-1 Phase One or Wireless E9-1-1 Phase Two as of January 1, 2001. Material Weaknesses In Internal Control Over Compliance For Federal Grants To U.S. Counties, Julie Christine Hyde

Audits of internal control over compliance in accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133 indicate the presence of material weaknesses. These weaknesses highlight breakdowns in internal control and create the opportunity for financial mismanagement and fraud. This study evaluates material weaknesses in internal control over compliance for U.S. counties. Material weaknesses are mapped into internal control elements, and the study examines both entity determinants and auditor characteristics associated with the reporting of material weaknesses. School counselors in rural locations deal with many of the same issues and concerns of those in most urban areas, but have several additional challenges due to the geographic and demographic characteristics of their populations. The research in this dissertation investigated the specific challenges experienced by school counselors in the state of Alaska. All school counselors working in a rural public school were surveyed to determine what challenges they experienced, what resources they utilize, what additional resources they would like, and to discuss any information they believed would be helpful for a counselor about to enter the rural school setting. …

Community engagement initiatives have experienced an increase in attention, appreciation, and participation among those in academic, nonprofit, and other community-based organizations over the past two decades. The purpose of this study is to explore the meanings of community-campus partnerships among stakeholders in the community and in academia towards the goal of generating a theory grounded in these data that will concomitantly contribute to the social work profession and the community engagement movement. Deformation Of Rolling Shutters Under Uniform Wind Pressure, Nan-Nong Huang, San-Ming Chang

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

In this study, a model is developed to analyze the structural behaviors of rolling shutters subjected to wind pressure. In the current shutter theory, the elastic properties of shutters are characterized by two bending rigidities, which can be determined from the flexural tests of slats and shutters. Close form solutions can be obtained for the deflection of shutters with two opposite simply supported edges. To assess the validity of the present theory, rolling shutters with various sizes and supporting conditions under various magnitudes of loadings are tested.
