A New Cohesion Metric And Restructuring Technique For Object Oriented Paradigm, Mehmet Kaya, Jim Fawcett

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

When software systems grow large during maintenance, they may lose their quality and become complex to read, understood and maintained. Developing a software system usually requires teams of developers working in concert to provide a finished product in a reasonable amount of time. What that means is many people may read each component of the software system such as a class in object oriented programming environment.

Disclosure And Health: Enhancing The Benefits Of Trauma Writing Through Response Training, Andrea Konig Nov 2011

Disclosure And Health: Enhancing The Benefits Of Trauma Writing Through Response Training, Andrea Konig

Theses and Dissertations

Writing about a personal traumatic event has been found to have psychological and physical health benefits. Focusing on traumatic memories in writing may be a form of exposure. In imagery exposure and trauma writing, greater physiological reactivity was predictive of better outcomes. Given the importance of physiological output in emotional processing, response training was developed and found to be effective in increasing appropriate physiological reactivity in imagery exposure. If response training amplifies physiological reactivity and the benefits of writing, the hypothesis that writing is a form of exposure would be strengthened, and training may be a valuable tool to improve …

New Mothers And Media Use: Associations Between Blogging, Social Networking, And Maternal Well-Being, Brandon T. Mcdaniel, Sarah M. Coyne, Erin K. Holmes

Faculty Publications

Drawing on Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory and prior empirical research, the current study examines the way that blogging and social networking may impact feelings of connection and social support, which in turn could impact maternal well-being (e.g., marital functioning, parenting stress, and depression). One hundred and fifty-seven new mothers reported on their media use and various well-being variables. On average, mothers were 27 years old (SD = 5.15) and infants were 7.90 months old (SD = 5.21). All mothers had access to the Internet in their home. New mothers spent approximately 3 hours on the computer each day, with most of …

You Look Just Like Her, Sara Tkac Nov 2011

You Look Just Like Her, Sara Tkac

Theses

You Look Just Like Her is a process-based photographic installation exploring the limitations of any one media as a means to build a complete narrative. When I discovered that little accurate information could be gleaned about my deceased mother from her collection of family photographs, I interviewed the other participants in the visual family histories. Once the stories were complete, I transformed the visual truth into a fiction of my own by using digital manipulation to become a by-proxy participant in the early years of my mother's life. In order to create an panoptic experience for the viewer, this thesis …

[ ], Megan Metté

Theses

[ ] explores the socially constructed notions surrounding a house and a home and those things that are necessary in order to feel at home in the world. As a way to process the feelings associated with being the child of a broken home, I reconfigure the rooms of various houses in an attempt to escape my reality, and enter into an ideal dream space. Both my photographic and video works explore how utopian architecture and the American dream have in some ways influenced my concept of the ideal and my process of making these dreams. In the end, the …

Consumers' Self-Image Response To Gender Portrayal In Advertising Images, Rebecca Delaney Nov 2011

Consumers' Self-Image Response To Gender Portrayal In Advertising Images, Rebecca Delaney

Theses

Previous empirical research has examined the effect of advertising image idealization on self-image issues, but many of these studies neglect to take into account the effects on men. By developing an experiment to include key components from previous methods of research, the present study investigates the effects of gender portrayal in advertising images. The purpose of this study is to examine consumers' responses to the advertising stimulus, or the advertising images of gender. Inconsistent with past research, findings suggest there is less disparity between men and women's reactions after viewing gender portrayals in advertising images. It is suggested that there …

Parasocial Relationships And Social Media Usage, Christine Phelps

Theses

This study investigates the use of social networking sites by media figures, celebrities and celebrity brands and how consumers use and participate in brand communities on these sites. The concept of parasocial relationships has been applied to this medium and studied as a marketing tool to reach consumers and maintain relationships with them. Consumers' use of social networking sites, their participation with celebrity brands via social networking sites, and their feelings toward that celebrity brand and online community are explored. The relationship between consumers' time spent and usage of social networking sites is compared to factors of parasocial relationships as …

Sex Talk: Factors That Influence Parent-Child Communication About Sex, Tiffany Abrego Nov 2011

Sex Talk: Factors That Influence Parent-Child Communication About Sex, Tiffany Abrego

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

Between 50 and 70% of young people are first sexually active between the ages of 15 and 17, and almost 90% by age 18. This early sexual debut puts adolescents at high risk for sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy if they are uneducated about safe sex. For this reason, it is important to determine the variables that contribute to early sexual debut. One factor that researchers have explored is the communication between parents and their children concerning sex. Researchers have found that the communication about sex is influenced by parents’ own beliefs, experiences, and comfort level discussing sexual topics. …
