Wellness, Health, And Salvation : About The Religious Dimension Of Contemporary Body-Mindedness, Christoffer H. Grundmann Jan 2011

Wellness, Health, And Salvation : About The Religious Dimension Of Contemporary Body-Mindedness, Christoffer H. Grundmann

Theology Faculty Publications

It shows that any body image which does not address human frailty turns into something utterly inhumane while a religiously informed anthropology, in contrast, not …

"The continuous growth and diversification of programs in the College of Education and Health Professions has led the University to a decision to reconfigure the college into two distinct academic units -- the Isabelle Farrington College of Education and the College of Health Professions. The transition began with an announcement in May, and the new structure will be effective July 1, 2011"--From Dean Patricia Walker's introduction to this issue of Reflections.

Transforming Lives And Communities: A Case Study On Building Partnerships In The Philippines Through Appreciative Inquiry, Rizalina L. Ababa Jan 2011

Transforming Lives And Communities: A Case Study On Building Partnerships In The Philippines Through Appreciative Inquiry, Rizalina L. Ababa

Capstone Collection

The growing number of poor in the Philippines is alarming. Neither the national government nor any individual organization acting alone has been able to alleviate the rising percentage of poverty. With this prevalent need in the country, networks, alliances and partnerships among several organizations, including faith-based organizations, have been established to help respond to the needs of those living in poverty.

OM Philippines–Cebu Ministries, a faith-based Christian organization was started in 2001. It has worked specifically among the poor through children’s programs in partnership with local Protestant churches. Like many NGOs, OM Philippines has been exploring new strategies to expand …

Building A Global Community, Matthew Carlin

Honors Capstones

The world is flatter now than ever before and this creates great opportunities but also great problems. One of the biggest problems to arise is a lack of understanding between cultures. This paper looks at one process of learning culture through study abroad and how to enhance that experience with volunteer work. Secondary research was used to learn the history, benefits, and drawbacks of both study abroad and volunteer work. Two surveys were designed to gather primary sources to confirm the secondary research. Through this research, I found that study abroad is trending towards a more meaningful cultural experience. There …

Conflicts Of Interest In Clinical Practice Guidelines, Lisa Cosgrove, Allen F. Shaughnessy

Counseling, School Psychology & Sport Faculty Publication Series

Clinical practice guidelines are used increasingly across medical specialties and settings, making evaluation of their utility and validity a critical public health issue. In this paper, we describe some of the challenges that specialty organizations face as they try to ensure that their guidelines are trustworthy and useful. We examine the practice guidelines for Major Depressive Disorder recently published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), identify five sources of potential bias that may affect the guideline development process and offer suggestions based on our review. For example, even for mild depression, this guideline privileges pharmacotherapy over other interventions, despite questions …
