Toward The Implementation Of Preventive Law In Community College Administration, Michael Joseph Heindl Aug 2011

Toward The Implementation Of Preventive Law In Community College Administration, Michael Joseph Heindl

Theses and Dissertations

As more students cross the threshold of higher education in Mississippi community and junior colleges, an increase in legal disputes inevitably will occur. Two important skills can help college administrators anticipate legal issues that may occur on their own campuses. The first is the ability of administrators to scan the broad legal environment. The second is their growing awareness of legal issues in all aspects of their own enterprise. In order to prevent causes of action from being initiated in a complaint, proceeding to discovery, and then possibly leading to trial, college administrators must recognize the importance of knowing what …

Proposed Community Action Plan For Casa Cornelia Law Center, Allison Bechill, Scott Campbell, Casey Mckinley Aug 2011

Proposed Community Action Plan For Casa Cornelia Law Center, Allison Bechill, Scott Campbell, Casey Mckinley

Community Engagement and Collaboration

Casa Cornelia and scores of other public and private agencies rely on interpreters and translators for communicating with immigrants and their communities. Volunteer support overcomes language barriers and ensures that all clients have access to support services in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Unfortunately, there is often a lack of qualified volunteer interpreters and translators available, most acutely for its Somali clients, which comprise the largest percentage of its Asylum Program’s caseload.

This paper considers possible solutions to the insufficient number of volunteers that are currently available to Casa Cornelia.

Values As Part Of The Clinical Experience, Jamie Baker Roskie Aug 2011

Values As Part Of The Clinical Experience, Jamie Baker Roskie

Pace Environmental Law Review Online Companion

This essay is based on a short talk I gave at the "Practically Grounded" conference hosted by Pace Law School’s Land Use Law Center. This piece discusses the University of Georgia (UGA) Land Use Clinic, specifically why and how I interact with my students in the classroom about values as part of the clinic experience. It attempts to tie my own teaching methods to those suggested in Best Practices for Legal Education.

Does Legalzoom Have First Amendment Rights? Some Thoughts About Freedom Of Speech And The Unauthorized Practice Of Law, Catherine J. Lanctot Aug 2011

Does Legalzoom Have First Amendment Rights? Some Thoughts About Freedom Of Speech And The Unauthorized Practice Of Law, Catherine J. Lanctot

Working Paper Series

At a time of economic dislocation in the legal profession, it is likely that bar regulators will turn their attention to pursuing lay entities that appear to be engaged in the unauthorized practice of law. One prominent target of these efforts is LegalZoom, an online document preparer that has come under increasing pressure from the organized bar for its marketing and sale of basic legal documents. As regulatory pressure against LegalZoom and similar companies continues to mount, it is worth considering whether there may be unanticipated consequences from pursuing these unauthorized practice claims. In several well-known instances, lay people have …

Anatomy Of A Financial Center's Global Competitiveness In The Context Of Michael Porter's Model Of National Competitive Advantage A Theoretical Analysis, Josef Joachim L. Magpantay Aug 2011

Anatomy Of A Financial Center's Global Competitiveness In The Context Of Michael Porter's Model Of National Competitive Advantage A Theoretical Analysis, Josef Joachim L. Magpantay

HIM 1990-2015

Throughout history, a number of financial centers have risen and fallen. While the significance of some centers have deteriorated, a small number of centers have emerged as today's leading financial centers by meeting a specific set of necessary conditions needed to successfully address the growing financial needs of the regions they are located. Furthermore, an even smaller number of financial centers have been able to sustain and expand their initial dominance in the financial industry by continuously satisfying a more focused set of conditions and factors. This thesis focuses on adapting Michael Porter's Diamond Model in determining, clustering, and expanding …
