The implementation rate of the recommendations has been only about 40% on average. This rate was expected to be improved with a knowledge center.;Energy Efficiency Knowledge Center (EEKC) is a regional system which includes the development and deployment of technical resources to assist industrial …

Rapid Assessment Of Delay-Of-Reinforcement Effects On Key Pecking Maintained By Fixed-Ratio Schedules, David P. Jarmolowicz Jan 2011

Rapid Assessment Of Delay-Of-Reinforcement Effects On Key Pecking Maintained By Fixed-Ratio Schedules, David P. Jarmolowicz

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Previous research on delay of reinforcement has focused primarily on variable-interval schedules. A fair amount is known about effects of delay duration, signaled versus unsignaled delays, and interval length in the context of these schedules. Less is known about these effects on other schedules of reinforcement. For example, little is known about the effects of delay duration, signals versus unsignaled delays, or the way that delays interact with ratio requirement when behavior is maintained by fixed-ratio schedules. Furthermore, the steady-state designs (wherein stable responding is obtained at each delay duration) used to investigate delay-of-reinforcement effects are often time consuming. The …

The Effect Of Dietary Inclusion Of Conjugated Linoleic Acid In Finishing Hog Feed On Sensory Characteristics And Storage Quality Indicators Of Pork Loin, Kaitlin Hope Maditz Jan 2011

The Effect Of Dietary Inclusion Of Conjugated Linoleic Acid In Finishing Hog Feed On Sensory Characteristics And Storage Quality Indicators Of Pork Loin, Kaitlin Hope Maditz

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Marbling in meat occurs when fat is distributed throughout the skeletal muscle and is visually apparent by light streaks of fat that look like a marble pattern. It is associated with increased quality, tenderness, and likeability. Incorporating dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) into finishing hog feed increases intramuscular fat and decrease backfat in harvested pigs; therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if inclusion of CLA in pig feed would increase intramuscular marbling and consumer likeability without compromising storage stability. Twenty pigs were housed in ten pens (2 pigs per pen) and fed either 1% Soybean oil or …

Drug-Drug Interactions: A Machine Learning Approach, William Wireko Mensah

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Automatic detection of drug-drug interaction (DDI) is a difficult problem in pharmaco-surveillance. Recent practice for in vitro and in vivo pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction studies have been based on carefully selected drug characteristics such as their pharmacological effects, and on drug-target networks, in order to identify and comprehend anomalies in a drug's biochemical function upon co-administration.;In this work, we present a novel DDI prediction framework that combines several drug-attribute similarity measures to construct a feature space from which we train three machine learning algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM), J48 Decision Tree and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) using a partially supervised classification algorithm …

Comparison Of A Work-Based Window Method To Nte Method For Reporting In-Use Emissions, Nathan Music

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Heavy-duty on-road diesel engines currently sold in the United States are subjected to emission certification over the Federal Test Procedure and Supplemental Emissions Test in an engine test cell as well as in-use testing in real world environments using portable emissions measurement systems (PEMS). The current method for analyzing in-use emissions is based on the Not-To-Exceed (NTE) region of engine operation. With this method, emissions are reported only when the engine is operating in the NTE region for a minimum of thirty seconds. The downfall to this method is that any engine operation outside of this region is neglected. An …

The Role Of A Sense Of Coherence In The Prevention Of Compassion Fatigue, Mary Eleanor Schaffer Jan 2011

The Role Of A Sense Of Coherence In The Prevention Of Compassion Fatigue, Mary Eleanor Schaffer

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Compassion fatigue is defined as the syndrome experienced by a helper who meets the full diagnostic criteria for PTSD with a qualifying criterion A1 event that is not personal experience, but vicarious learning about a traumatic event that was experienced by a person with whom the therapist has a helper/client relationship. The prevention of compassion fatigue is considered important due to the pain associated with distress experienced by the helper and because it may result in a helper who is less able to provide effective treatment for clients. The sense of coherence (salutogenic) model proposed by Aaron Antonovsky (1987) identifies …

The literature review examines how literacy and visual literacy are defined and discusses visual communication using the framework of semiotics. Through think-aloud interview sessions, Somali participants of varying L1 literacy levels interpreted illustrations from ESL materials. Results show lower than expected ability to …

The Role Of The Acidic Domain Of The Toc159 Protein Import Receptor Family In Toc Complex Assembly In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Yi Chen Jan 2011

The Role Of The Acidic Domain Of The Toc159 Protein Import Receptor Family In Toc Complex Assembly In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Yi Chen

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Most chloroplast proteins are encoded in the nucleus and translated in the cytosol with an N-terminal cleavable transit peptide, which can be recognized by the translocon at the outer envelope membrane of chloroplasts (Toc complex). The core Toc complex is composed of two GTPases, Toc159 and Toc34, and the Toc75 channel. atToc159, atToc132 and atToc120 are homologues of the Toc159 family in Arabidopsis, and have been shown to assemble into structurally and functionally distinct Toc complexes. Targeting of atToc159 to the chloroplast outer membrane is mediated by its GTPase (G-) domain. However, the role of the acidic (A-) domain in …
