The German Bank Restructuring Act: An Economic Perspective, Camillo G.W.A. Freiherr Von Müller Mr.
The German Bank Restructuring Act: An Economic Perspective, Camillo G.W.A. Freiherr Von Müller Mr.
German Working Papers in Law and Economics
The paper explores incentives created by the German Bank Restructuring Act for investors holding assets in systemically important banks (SIBs). Its purpose is to examine consequences that follow for risk choices of SIBs, as well as for Germany’s financial system. Applying the analytical model of Stigliz (1990) the study reinforces the view that regulators can induce SIBs to forego risks by curbing promises of systemic support. Adverse consequences result from the fact that the Bank Restructuring Act is affecting different groups of SIB-investors heterogeneously. This leads to macro-effects that bear potentials to offset risk reductions achieved on the micro level.

Updating & Supplementing Casebooks Online, Debbie Ginsberg, Fred Bosselman
Presentations
In this Brown Bag, Emily Barney and Debbie Ginsberg demonstrated a new online tool: the casebook supplement website. Energy law changes rapidly, so Professor Bosselman needed a way to update his Energy, Economics and the Environment casebook on line with the latest legal developments. His publisher did not offer tools for updating casebooks. To assist Professor Bosselman, Emily Barney and the Library Technology Group developed a customized weblog to keep his materials current. The casebook supplement site can be used by any faculty who wish to update or supplement a casebook online. In this Brown Bag, Professor Bosselman demonstrated how …

Sex Talk: Factors That Influence Parent-Child Communication About Sex, Tiffany Abrego
Sex Talk: Factors That Influence Parent-Child Communication About Sex, Tiffany Abrego
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Between 50 and 70% of young people are first sexually active between the ages of 15 and 17, and almost 90% by age 18. This early sexual debut puts adolescents at high risk for sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy if they are uneducated about safe sex. For this reason, it is important to determine the variables that contribute to early sexual debut. One factor that researchers have explored is the communication between parents and their children concerning sex. Researchers have found that the communication about sex is influenced by parents’ own beliefs, experiences, and comfort level discussing sexual topics. …

How To Navigate Public Accounting Recruitment, Jill Heather Aoki
How To Navigate Public Accounting Recruitment, Jill Heather Aoki
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
For many accounting graduates, public accounting is an excellent place to start a career. However, recruitment at accounting firms is highly competitive. The majority of personnel are hired through internships, and competition for these positions is fierce. The process usually spans over multiple years and involves participating in leadership seminars, attending social events, and much more in addition to interviewing. Successful placement requires not only exceptional academic achievements but also strong relationships with personnel at the firm. One primary differentiator among the numerous public accounting firms is their people and culture. Other factors include local clients and specializations. Thus, candidates …

Background:The aims of this study were to evaluate the awareness of and attitudes towards the 2005 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines for Heart Failure (HF) of the cardiologists in Pakistan and assess barriers to adherence to guidelines.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in person from March to July 2009 to all cardiologists practicing in 4 major cities in Pakistan (Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar). A validated, semi-structured questionnaire assessing ESC 2005 Guidelines for HF was used to obtain information from cardiologists. It included questions about awareness and relevance of HF guidelines (See Additional File 1). Respondents' management …

We present measurements of the specific heat coefficient γ (C/T) in the low-temperature limit as a function of an applied magnetic field for the Fe-based superconductor BaFe2(As0.7P0.3) 2. We find both a linear regime at higher fields and a limiting square root H behavior at very low fields. The crossover from a Volovik-like √H to a linear field dependence can be understood from a multiband calculation in the quasiclassical approximation assuming gaps with different momentum dependence on the hole- and electronlike Fermi surface sheets. © 2011 American Physical Society.

Simultaneous measurement of the proton-transfer 18F(d,n) 19Ne and neutron-transfer 18F(d,p)19F reactions were performed with a 18F radioactive beam at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The experiments clarify the nuclear structure of 19Ne near the proton threshold, which is relevant for understanding the rates of proton-induced reactions on 18F in novae. Analogs for several states in the mirror nucleus 19F have not yet been identified in 19Ne, indicating that the level structure of 19Ne in this region is incomplete. We observed 15 levels in 19Ne from the 18F(d,n) 19Ne measurement and 18 levels in 19F …
