An Analysis Of Behavioral Flexibility And Cue Preference In Pigeons Under Variable Reversal Learning Conditions, Rebecca Marie Rayburn-Reeves
An Analysis Of Behavioral Flexibility And Cue Preference In Pigeons Under Variable Reversal Learning Conditions, Rebecca Marie Rayburn-Reeves
Theses and Dissertations--Psychology
Behavioral flexibility, the ability to change behavior in accordance with the changing environment, was studied in pigeons using a series of reversal learning paradigms. All experiments involved a series of 5-trial sequences and I was interested in whether pigeons are sensitive to the reversal by switching to the other alternative after a single error. In Experiments 1 and 2, the overall probability of the two stimuli was equated over sequences, but the probability correct of the two stimuli changed across trials. In both experiments, subjects showed no sensitivity to the differences in sequence type. Instead they used the overall average …
Jurisdiction By Cross-Reference, Lumen N. Mulligan
Jurisdiction By Cross-Reference, Lumen N. Mulligan
Faculty Works
State and federal law often cross-reference each other to provide a rule of decision. The difficulties attendant to these cross-referenced schemes are brought to the fore most clearly when a federal court must determine whether such bodies of law create federal question jurisdiction. Indeed, the federal courts have issued scores of seemingly inconsistent opinions on these cross-referential cases. In this article, I offer an ordering principle for these apparently varied, cross-referential, jurisdictional cases. I argue that the federal courts only take federal question jurisdiction over cross-referenced claims when they, from a departmental perspective, maintain declaratory authority over the cross-referenced law. …

An Investigation Into Darknets And The Content Available Via Anonymous Peer-To-Peer File Sharing, Symon Aked
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Media sites, both technical and non-technical, make references to Darknets as havens for clandestine file sharing. They are often given an aura of mystique; where content of any type is just a mouse click away. However, can Darknets really be easily accessed, and do they provide access to material that would otherwise be difficult to obtain? This paper investigates which Darknets are easily discovered, the technical designs and methods used to hide content on the networks, the tools needed to join, and ultimately what type and quantities of files can be found on anonymous peer-to-peer file sharing networks. This information …
Reframing "Professionalism:" An Integral View Of Lawyering's Lofty Ideals, Brooks A. Suttle
Reframing "Professionalism:" An Integral View Of Lawyering's Lofty Ideals, Brooks A. Suttle
Emory Law Journal
Whereas legal ethics define what every lawyer must do, legal professionalism takes on the more difficult task of defining the core values that the very best lawyers should aspire to in their practice. The legal profession is granted a certain amount of autonomy and independence by American society, and the continuing legitimacy of this social contract depends on the notion that the profession will take care to regulate itself and maintain standards of conduct commensurate with its essential function.

Chronic Continuous Perfusion Of The Hibernation Triggering Opioid Dadle Did Not Cause Any Major Physiological Alterations In Rats, İbrahi̇m Akyazi, Ülker Çöteli̇oğlu
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
[D-Ala2, D-Leu5] enkephalin (DADLE), a delta opioid receptor agonist, can induce mammalian hibernation and has hibernation-like effects in non-hibernating species. It has also been demonstrated that DADLE has protective efficacy on various tissues such as nervous, cardiac, and hepatic tissues. Despite substantial research conducted in the last decade about the tissue protective efficacy of DADLE, detailed underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In the present study we investigated in a rat model whether continuous perfusion of DADLE can induce potentially tissue protective alterations in physiological parameters. In the study 48 young male Wistar rats were used. They were divided …

Natural killer T (NKT) cells represent an important regulatory T cell subset that develops in the thymus and contains immature (NK1.1lo) and mature (NK1.1hi) cell subsets. Here we show in mice that an inherited mutation in heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein L-like protein (hnRNPLLthunder), that shortens the survival of conventional T cells, has no discernible effect on NKT cell development, homeostasis or effector function. Thus, Hnrpll deficiency effectively increases the NKTT cell ratio in the periphery. However, Hnrpll mutation disrupts CD45RA, RB and RC exon silencing of the Ptprc mRNA in both NKT and conventional T cells, …
