A Deleuzian Approach To Carlos Reygadass Stellet Licht [Silent Light] (2008), Cynthia Tompkinis

Research Papers

This article opens with a brief summary of the Mexican cinematic tradition, followed by references to Carlos Reygadass preference for auteur cinema and to the common denominator of his films, the topic of taboo. After contextualizing Mennonite presence in Mexico, this text focuses on the process of adaptation of Kaj Munk's play Ordet (1932), which spawned several avatars, among them Carl Theodor Dreyer's homonymous film, Ordet (1954), and Reygadas's Stellet Licht [Silent Light] (2008). Special consideration is given to Dreyer's influence on the Mexican director, that is, on minimalism in terms of mise-en-scène, character and camera movement. An exploration of …

Argentina Promises Nuclear Power Surge, Benjamin Witte-Lebhar

NotiEn: An Analytical Digest About Energy Issues in Latin America

Left for decades on the proverbial back burner, Argentinas once cutting-edge but now very much dusty nuclear power sector is experiencing a real renaissance. For the first time in more than a quarter century, the country is preparing to open a new nuclear power plant, its third. More may be on the way as Argentina looks to ease its dependence on fossil fuels, particularly natural gas. Then a regional pioneer, Argentina opened South America's first nuclear power plant in 1974: the 335 megawatt Atucha I facility. Approximately 115 km northwest of Buenos Aires in the town of Lima, Atucha I …

Observability Analysis Of Bearing-Only Cooperative Localization, Rajnikant Sharma

Faculty Publications

In this report we investigate the nonlinear observability properties of bearing-only cooperative localization. We establish a link between observability and a graph representing measurements and communication between the robots. It is shown that graph theoretic properties like the connectivity and the existence of a path between two nodes can be used to explain the observability of the system.

Energy Trade Brinkmanship Between The European Union And Russia, Alla Khalitova Nov 2010

Energy Trade Brinkmanship Between The European Union And Russia, Alla Khalitova

Undergraduate Economic Review

This paper proposes a brinkmanship game of unilateral deterrence to model the dynamics of energy trade between the European Union and Russia. Nuclear deterrence and crisis bargaining theory is extended to show the relationship between a spectrum of risk and trade dependency. Russia and the EU are mutually dependent upon continued natural gas trade, but Russia has an asymmetrical incentive to disrupt the status quo in order to extract a concession from the EU. It can do so by initiating a crisis that escalates toward a mutually disastrous gas shutoff through sequential bargaining. The risk of a gas shutoff is …

Head Start Administrative Practices, Director Qualifications, And Links To Classroom Quality, Mccormick Center For Early Childhood Leadership

McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership Publications

An emerging body of research confirms practical wisdom from the field that center directors are the gatekeepers to quality. Through the teachers they hire, the administrative practices they put into place, and their ability to promote a shared vision, directors create professional environments that enable teachers to provide enriching learning environments for children. Recognizing the importance of program leadership, an increasing number of state initiatives are including a measure of administrative practices in their approaches to assessing and improving program quality across early learning settings. To help inform these initiatives, this research examined how administrative practices in Head Start programs …

Toward The Scientific Study Of Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy (Response To Commentaries On Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy: A Coding System Applied To The Case Of Cynthia), Jefferson A. Singer, Laura Bonalume Nov 2010

Toward The Scientific Study Of Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy (Response To Commentaries On Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy: A Coding System Applied To The Case Of Cynthia), Jefferson A. Singer, Laura Bonalume

Psychology Faculty Publications

In responding to Adler (2010) and Moertl, Boritz, Bryntwick, and Angus (2010), we elaborate three areas of discussion: (1) Defining the autobiographical memory narrative unit; (2) Clarifications regarding our approach to coding narrative memories; and (3) Potential future research. Our response highlights the importance of a coding system specific to long-term narrative memories, the need to distinguish clearly what is meant by narrative memory, and the value of creating a bridge between the study of narrative memory in psychotherapy and research in cognitive science and personality psychology.

Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy: A Coding System Applied To The Case Of Cynthia, Jefferson A. Singer, Laura Bonalume Nov 2010

Autobiographical Memory Narratives In Psychotherapy: A Coding System Applied To The Case Of Cynthia, Jefferson A. Singer, Laura Bonalume

Psychology Faculty Publications

Recent cognitive and psychodynamic oriented therapies have converged on the powerful role that narrative processing plays in psychotherapy. Although previous coding systems have examined specific aspects of memory narratives, there are no comprehensive methods for coding segments of clinical evaluations or psychotherapy sessions that zero in on the unit of a briefly recounted autobiographical memory narrative. The present single case study aims to introduce and to demonstrate the Coding System for Autobiographical Memory Narratives in Psychotherapy (CS-AMNP; Singer & Bonalume, 2008) with a young female client whom we call "Cynthia." We applied this autobiographical memory narrative approach to the diagnostic …
