Improving Hiding Information Process Based On Ga Technique With Secure Extraction Process, Lina Saeed, Susan S. Ghazoul Dec 2010

Improving Hiding Information Process Based On Ga Technique With Secure Extraction Process, Lina Saeed, Susan S. Ghazoul

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

In this paper we propose a new method of hiding information that produces a stego-image which is totally indistinguishable from the original image to extract the hiding message. GA is used as an efficient method to minimize the number of different bits between the cover image and the stego-image as minimum as possible by embedding the message in random locations of cover image, and then modifying the locations containing changed information in original image (cover) to improve stego-image quality. To satisfy excellent security we used a crypto-key which contains encrypted locations from hiding process. This key is used to extract …

Tuning Of Pid Controller Based On Foraging Strategy For Pneumatic Position Control System, Amjad J. Dec 2010

Tuning Of Pid Controller Based On Foraging Strategy For Pneumatic Position Control System, Amjad J.

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

Pneumatic servo system has been applied in many industry fields. The system has many advantages, such as high speed, high flexibility and low price. However, the application of the system is restricted because the physical parameters have strong nonlinearity, inaccuracy and uncertainty, so that it is very difficult to find an optimal controller by means of traditional control theory. Proportional integral derivative (PID) control is one of the earlier control strategies; it has a simple control structure and can be easily tuned. Optimization of PID controller parameters is one of the recent control solutions; especially when the system is of …

Estimation Of Fracture Properties For A Horizontal Well With Multiple Hydraulic Fractures In Gas Shale, Ayodeji L Aboaba Dec 2010

Estimation Of Fracture Properties For A Horizontal Well With Multiple Hydraulic Fractures In Gas Shale, Ayodeji L Aboaba

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This research work presents a new method for estimating fracture properties for a horizontal well with multiple hydraulic fractures in shale gas reservoirs. This method utilizes the production data obtained during the linear flow period to provide reliable estimates of both fracture half-length and formation permeability.;The new method provides an excellent alternative to the conventional pressure transient analysis methods. It requires neither the existence of the elliptical flow nor the pseudoradial flow periods and thus reduces the impractical long times required for well testing in horizontal wells drilled in shale gas reservoirs. The conventional pressure transient analysis methods require an …

Mercury Removal From Coal By Leaching With Sulfur Dioxide, Poornima Chateker Dec 2010

Mercury Removal From Coal By Leaching With Sulfur Dioxide, Poornima Chateker

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Mercury from coal-fired utilities has been identified as one of the most hazardous air pollutants and the greatest potential public health concern. Furthermore, it has a tendency to bio-accumulate in the food chain. Mercury is present in coal in concentration well below 1 ppm; however, the large tonnages of coal consumed for electric power generation represent a significant source of mercury vapor entering the environment. There are various technologies available to control the emission of mercury from coal-fired power plants. Among them activated carbon injection into the flue gas stream has been studied for many years and is considered to …

Quantification Of Uncertainty Associated With Injecting Carbon Dioxide, And Design Of Ecbm Reservoir In Appalachian Basin Coals, Jesma Mohan Dec 2010

Quantification Of Uncertainty Associated With Injecting Carbon Dioxide, And Design Of Ecbm Reservoir In Appalachian Basin Coals, Jesma Mohan

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

There are tremendous coal bed methane resources throughout the world. However, with conventional production methods, 40-80% of methane is left behind as unrecoverable. Enhanced coal bed methane (ECBM) recovery by injection of Carbon dioxide (CO2) is motivated by the dual benefits of improved gas recovery and green house gas storage. In practice, this technology is relatively new, still in the early stage of development, and the economic performance of ECBM has yet to be verified. Due to the complexity of CBM reservoirs, the production performance involves significant uncertainties. It is imperative to quantify the uncertainty of production performance in order …

A Field Evaluation Of Dust Palliatives In West Virginia, Kevin A. Butler Dec 2010

A Field Evaluation Of Dust Palliatives In West Virginia, Kevin A. Butler

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

It is estimated that a vehicle making a single pass on one mile of untreated, unpaved road every day can generate one ton of dust per year. This dust constitutes fine materials which act as a binder to the larger coarse aggregates within surface gravel. As these fines are removed, the surface deteriorates and expensive aggregate ends up along the roadside in ditches and culverts. The surface continually deteriorates until the road must be reconstructed. Furthermore, airborne dust presents serious safety concerns to traveling motorists and health concerns associated with respiratory illnesses. At the West Virginia Division of Highway's current …

Simulation-Based Optimum Design Of Sensor Arrays Using Multi-Objective Tabu Search, Zongyu Geng Dec 2010

Simulation-Based Optimum Design Of Sensor Arrays Using Multi-Objective Tabu Search, Zongyu Geng

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This thesis is concerned with the optimum design of sensor arrays (i.e., electronic noses or tongues) using simulation experiments. The proposed design method adopts a set of new criteria, which more adequately represent the desirable properties of a sensor array in practice. A number of best non-dominated array designs are selected through a multiple objective (criteria) Tabu search algorithm. The evaluation of a candidate sensor array is based on its multivariate calibration model, which is efficiently estimated from well-designed simulation experiments. The method can be used to optimize the design of both linear and nonlinear sensor arrays.

Reframing Antitrust In Light Of Scientific Revolution: Accounting For Transaction Costs In Rule Of Reason Analysis, Alan J. Meese Dec 2010

Reframing Antitrust In Light Of Scientific Revolution: Accounting For Transaction Costs In Rule Of Reason Analysis, Alan J. Meese

Faculty Publications

This Article contends that modern rule of reason analysis, informed by workable competition’s partial equilibrium trade-off paradigm, is suitable for evaluating only a subset of agreements that may reduce transaction costs. The Article distinguishes between “technological” and “non-technological” transaction costs. Technological transaction costs entail the bargaining and information costs first emphasized by Ronald Coase, while non-technological transaction costs result from more fundamental departures from perfect competition, departures creating a risk of opportunism that accompanies relationship-specific investments. Modern law does accurately assess restraints that may reduce technological transaction costs—costs that are analogous to the sort of production costs recognized by the …

Recreational Boats As Potential Vectors Of Marine Organisms At An Invasion Hotspot, Ian C. Davidson, Chela J. Zabin, Andrew L. Chang, Christopher W. Brown, Mark Sytsma, Gregory M. Ruiz

Center for Lakes and Reservoirs Publications and Presentations

With more than 200 aquatic nonindigenous species (NIS), San Francisco Bay (California, USA) is among the world’s most invaded harbors. Hard-substratum benthic (biofouling) organisms, which dominate NIS richness, have arrived primarily as a result of shipping and aquaculture activity over past centuries. To date there has been no assessment of the leisure craft vector in the Bay. We aimed to characterize (1) biofouling on boats’ submerged surfaces and (2) boater behavior likely to affect the risk of NIS transfers. We used an underwater pole-cam, specimen collections, and a boater questionnaire to quantify the extent and composition of biofouling on recreational …

Is Punishment Relevant After All? A Prescription For Informing Juries Of The Consequence Of Conviction, Jeffrey Bellin Dec 2010

Is Punishment Relevant After All? A Prescription For Informing Juries Of The Consequence Of Conviction, Jeffrey Bellin

Faculty Publications

The American jury, once heralded as “the great corrective of law in its actual administration,” has suffered numerous setbacks in the modern era. As a result, jurors have largely become bystanders in a criminal justice system that relies on increasingly severe punishments to incarcerate tens of thousands of offenders each year. The overwhelming majority of cases are resolved short of trial and, even when trials occur, jurors are instructed to find only the facts necessary for legal guilt. Apart from this narrow task, jurors need not, in the eyes of the law, concern themselves with whether a conviction and subsequent …

Oxidation Of Cyclohexane And Ethylbenzene By Hydrogen Peroxide Over Co-Substituted Heteropolytungstate Catalyst, W Kanjina, W Trakarnpruk Dec 2010

Oxidation Of Cyclohexane And Ethylbenzene By Hydrogen Peroxide Over Co-Substituted Heteropolytungstate Catalyst, W Kanjina, W Trakarnpruk

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

The tetrabutylammonium salt of Co-substituted heteropolytungstate, [(n-C4H9)4N]4 HPW11Co(H2O)O39.3H2O was synthesized and characterized. It was shown to be an active catalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexane and ethylbenzene. The oxidation reactions were performed using green oxidant hydrogen peroxide and acetonitrile as solvent. The major products of the oxidation of cyclohexane were cyclohexanone (K) and cyclohexanol (A). High selectivity towards K-A oil was achieved. At longer time cyclohexanol was converted to cyclohexanone. Ethylbenzene was also selectively oxidized to acetophenone. These oxidation reactions appear to be radical processes since they were totally inhibited in the presence of radical scavenger.

Versatile Route For Preparation Of Polydiacetylene/Zno Nanocomposites And Their Colorimetric Response To Ph And Ethanol, N Rungruangviriya, N Traiphol Dec 2010

Versatile Route For Preparation Of Polydiacetylene/Zno Nanocomposites And Their Colorimetric Response To Ph And Ethanol, N Rungruangviriya, N Traiphol

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

This contribution presents a simple method to prepare polydiacetylene(PDA)/ZnO nanocomposites, which can be utilized as active materials in sensing technology. The ZnO nanoparticles, which constitute of Zn-OH2 + , Zn-OH and Zn-O- groups at their surfaces, function as nano-substrates for self-assembling of diacetylene monomers, 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA), in aqueous medium. Photopolymerization of the assemblies yields poly(PCDA)/ZnO nanocomposites with core-shell structure. Strong interactions between the active groups at ZnO surface and carboxylic head groups of poly(PCDA) promote chain ordering and reduce segmental dynamics of poly(PCDA) in the nanocomposites. The existence of strong interfacial interaction drastically affects the colorimetric response behavior of …

Study On Flame Retardancy And Anti-Dripping Of Polyester Fabric Treated With Bentonite, Diammonium Hydrogen Phosphate And Aluminium Hydroxide, P Lerdkajornsuk, S Charuchinda

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

The purpose of this research was to improve flame retardancy and anti-dripping of polyester fabric by using bentonite, 3% (w/w) diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DA) and 5, 10% (w/w) aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3) via pad-dry technique. The burning behavior of the treated polyester fabric was investigated according to ASTM D1230. The results showed that 10wt% of bentonite alone were capable of imparting anti-dripping. Nevertheless, the preparation of the slurry of bentonite (>10% (w/w)) caused high viscosity leading to difficulties for the preparation and finishing process. Thus, the addition of 4% (w/w) of sodium chloride (NaCl) to the suspension of bentonite (up …

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an electrical phenomenon that occurs when a polarisable particle is placed in non-uniform electrical fields, generating DEP force (FDEP) that is dependent upon the electrophysiological make-up of the particle in use. In cell cytometry studies, DEP offers the advantage of conducting various cell manipulations in vitro without the need of specific surface markers. Its drawbacks, namely the time-consuming processes involved and the inability to conduct large batch cell assays, had limited its usage. This thesis presents the work that offered solution to the said obstacles, by developing a system capable of conducting DEP experiments within a very …
