Can Self Service Technologies Work In The Hotel Industry In Singapore? A Conceptual Framework For Adopting Self Service Technology, Lixin Iris Ong
Can Self Service Technologies Work In The Hotel Industry In Singapore? A Conceptual Framework For Adopting Self Service Technology, Lixin Iris Ong
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The proliferation of self service technologies has changed the way customers interact with service employees and technology. More consumers are now valuing the convenience, consistency, and the control they have over the self service technologies. However, despite the growing popularity of these technologies, hotel industries in Singapore have not embraced self service technologies in their day to day operations. Self service technologies present opportunities for hotels to improve on service standards, and the wide variety of technology applications available allow hotels to choose an application that suits the customers and the hotels needs. To enable hotels to seamlessly adopt self …

Development Of Novel Biomarkers In Cancer: Detection Of Circulating Mir-141 As A Potential Prognostic Marker For Prostate Cancer, Jason Cadaoas Gonzales
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Prostate cancer (CAP) is the most common epithelial malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American men. The identification of predictive and prognostic biomarkers in CAP patients is critical for improving clinical outcomes. Although the measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and radiographic studies are clinically approved to predict response to therapy, these tests can oftentimes prove to be inadequate in certain patients. Thus, it is important to discover new biomarkers to improve chances of survivability. We and others have shown that longitudinal measurements of circulating tumor cells (CTC) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) may aid in predicting response …

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The National Weather Service’s (NWS) river forecast centers provide long-term water resource forecasts for the main river basins in the U.S. The NWS creates seasonal streamflow forecasts using an ensemble prediction model called the Extended Streamflow Prediction (ESP) software. ESP creates runoff volume forecasts by taking the current observed soil moisture and snowpack conditions in the basin and applying them to historical temperature and precipitation scenarios. The ESP treats every historic input year as a likely scenario of future basin conditions. Therefore improving the knowledge about how long-term climate cycles impact streamflow can extend the forecast lead time and improve …

Age And Petrogenesis Of The Roaring Mountain Rhyolites, Yellowstone Volcanic Field, Wyoming, Kathleen Marie Wooton
Age And Petrogenesis Of The Roaring Mountain Rhyolites, Yellowstone Volcanic Field, Wyoming, Kathleen Marie Wooton
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Extracaldera rhyolites in the Norris-Mammoth Corridor of the Yellowstone Volcanic Field (YVF) appear to be unrelated to intracaldera volcanism, resulting instead from a new crustal magma source derived from northeastward propagation of the Yellowstone “melting anomaly.” The youngest extracaldera rhyolite unit, the Roaring Mountain Member (RM), is chemically distinct from the previous extracaldera lavas, reverting to more primitive compositions.
This study suggests that the majority of the RM rhyolites erupted from the same large-scale silicic magma system. Based on geochemistry and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, the Crystal Spring mingled rhyolite and Obsidian Cliff rhyolite erupted concurrently at 59.1 ± 2.0 ka. The …

Background: The challenge today is to develop a modeling and simulation paradigm that integrates structural, molecular and genetic data for a quantitative understanding of physiology and behavior of biological processes at multiple scales. This modeling method requires techniques that maintain a reasonable accuracy of the biological process and also reduces the computational overhead. This objective motivates the use of new methods that can transform the problem from energy and affinity based modeling to information theory based modeling. To achieve this, we transform all dynamics within the cell into a random event time, which is specified through an information domain …

F5c: A Variant Of Faugere's F5 Algorithm With Reduced Gröbner Bases, Christian Eder, John E. Perry
Faculty Publications
The F5 algorithm for computing Gröbner bases achieves a high level of efficiency through the careful analysis of signatures assigned to each computed polynomial. However, it computes and uses many polynomials that turn out to be redundant. Eliminating these redundant polynomials is a non-trivial task, because they correspond to signatures required for reduction. This paper revisits the theory underlying F5 and describes F5C, a new variant that prunes redundant polynomials, then re-computes signatures to preserve correctness. This strategy successfully reduces both overhead and execution time. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Confidence Intervals And Tests On The Difference Of Means Of Two Delta Distributions, Karen Grace Villarente Rosales
Dissertations
Various research fields produce data that are lognormally distributed and inflated with zero values. This type of data follows a delta distribution. In this study, we want to extensively investigate different interval and hypothesis testing methods for comparing the means of two delta populations to see which methods are optimal under different conditions of the populations.
For confidence intervals, existing MVUE methods are extended to two sample cases and compared to classical and two proposed robust methods. We investigated the performance of the classical Student's t, Welch t, and Wilcoxon-based interval to see if these methods really perform badly on …
