The concept of real-time data warehousing has grown in popularity in recent years as organizations demand access to critical pieces of data in real-time to produce analytics and make business decisions to gain competitive advantage. Real-time data warehousing systems differ substantially from traditional data warehousing systems, thus, presenting a unique set of organizational and operational challenges. The basis for the research was to investigate whether adequate information is available regarding the organizational and operational challenges of real-time data warehousing and whether that information is available to the database community. The Tri-State Miner's Strike of 1935 was a result of attempts to unionize the miners in the area. Because of the strike, Eagle Picher Mining Company formed an illegal company union to begin a back to work movement. The pressures of the Great Depression and the threat of communism caused these remarkable events. Silicosis and social conditions also influenced both labor and management of the Tri-State area. The Great Depression led to national Labor Reform Legislation the Tri-State min operators resisted. Tri-State miners, who had previously resisted union organization, now considered the benefits the union offered. The efforts of union …

Before World War II, there was an unstable atmosphere to the industrial sector of the United States economy. As World War II began the industries settled down, and the production of means for the war boomed, as the employees joined together against the Axis powers. After the war, the sense of duty that many union members felt disappeared and the mining industries began to reveal extensive problems with labor relations. Because of these two factors, the Taft-Hartley act was compiled through a joint committee in June 1947. In the act, there were many provisions made to protect both the employer …

Family Affairs newsletter (2004-2016)

FAMILY AFFAIRS was a free, twice-a-month, social activities newsletter for the GLBTQI (gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex) community, sent out around the 1st and 15th of each month. It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

Communication Faculty Publications

Objective. To examine faculty members’ and students’ expectations and perceptions of e-mail communication in a dual pathway pharmacy program. Methods. Three parallel survey instruments were administered to campus students, distance students, and faculty members, respectively. Focus groups with students and faculty were conducted. Results. Faculty members perceived themselves as more accessible and approachable by e-mail than either group of students did. Campus students expected a shorter faculty response time to e-mail and for faculty members to be more available than did distance students. Conclusion. E-mail is an effective means of computer-mediated communication between faculty members and students and can be …

From the late 1800's continuing through the middle of the 20th century, the tri-state area was a hotbed for the mining industries of materials such as led, zinc, and quarts. Mining camps and boomstowns seemed to pop us over night, and the rust to strike it big seemed to spread faster than wildfire. Through all of this it seemed one of the concerns that least weighed on anyone's minds was concern over the health and general well being of the miners themselves. Diseases such as silicosis and tuberculosis were seen frequently in the miners and often spread to their families. …

The mining operation at Picher, Oklahoma was the last successful strike in the Tri-State Area. The Picher Lead Company of Joplin was drilling prospect holes in an isolated farming area somewhere northeast of Commerce, Oklahoma in 1914 and made a rich strike in the area that became known as Picher. The town grew almost overnight as miners and their families flooded into the area to be a part of one of the most successful mines in the area. The purpose of the railroad is to connect-people to places, commodity to consumer, all the while building a network of relationships. In the Tri-State Mining District, the area railroads served the local mining industry by hauling the ore concentrate to the purchasing smelter. Both industries worked to support the Tri-State area, despite governmental intervention and economic downturns Throughout the early to min-1900s, Tri-State District railroads connected to the mining industry, endured the government, and steamed into the future.

First Responder Attitudes About Naloxone Use For Prevention Of Drug Overdose Deaths, Center For Interventions, Treatment & Addictions Research

Unintentional Prescription Drug Poisoning Project

To identify first responder attitudes about the role of naloxone distribution programs in prevention of Unintentional Prescription Drug Poisoning, a web‐based survey was created and administered in November, 2010. The survey contained 19 questions and took about 5‐7 minutes to complete. A total of 72 people completed the on‐line survey. Survey results indicate that first responders viewed unintentional prescription drug overdose mortality as a significant problem in the Miami Valley, but the majority did not think that naloxone training and distribution to drug users would be an effective or appropriate prevention strategy. Computer Science Senior Projects

Scheduling classes is a tedious process for WMU students. CAESked, a class scheduling web application, was created to ease this process. The programming languages PHP and JavaScript were used to build a solution which integrates WMU data for upcoming courses into a web application. With features including a weekly calendar, a campus map, and class information all in one place, CAESked provides students with an easy to use tool for adding classes to their schedule.
