A Network Optimization Solver For Routing In Wireless Sensor Networks, Shaminda Asela Samaraweera Jan 2010

A Network Optimization Solver For Routing In Wireless Sensor Networks, Shaminda Asela Samaraweera

Computer Science

Many wireless sensor network applications require energy efficient communication between nodes in the network. Sensor networks are of limited resources. Due to this limitation, the routing between the nodes is one of the important aspects of the life span of the total network. Optimization of the routing algorithm is therefore an important decision point in the design of the sensor network. Our study establishes that optimization can increase the life span of the network. We implement an optimization algorithm in the total network, which is capable of saving energy on communication. The energy saving in communication helped us to increase …

Smart Robotic Arm Control Through Autonomous Object Detection And Retrieval, Vicky Ramnath Mahodaya

Computer Science

This paper outlines the design and development of a robotic arm that can automatically detect and locate an object within its working envelope, reach to the object, grab the object with the aid of force feedback, bring it back to the user and transition back to user-control mode. A smart robotic arm like this can be used to control a brain computer interface (BCI) enabled prosthetic arm. This could be done by controlling the arm's coarse motion using BCI signals to the arm in manual mode while the fine motion control required for object capturing and retrieval could be performed …

Post-Deployment Key Management In Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks, Paul Edward Loree Jan 2010

Post-Deployment Key Management In Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks, Paul Edward Loree

Computer Science

Many wireless sensor network applications require secure communication between nodes in the network. However, establishing pair-wise keys between nodes to provide security is challenging due to the limited resources in sensor nodes and the hostile environments in which they are deployed. Many key establishment schemes have been previously proposed for wireless sensor networks. However, most of these schemes were designed to work in a homogeneous network environment in which the nodes all have similar capabilities. Our work establishes that better performance can be achieved in a heterogeneous sensor network environment. We present a key management scheme for establishing pair-wise keys …

Etablatutor - The Electronic Tabla Leaming Game, Dibakar Bhowmick Jan 2010

Etablatutor - The Electronic Tabla Leaming Game, Dibakar Bhowmick

Computer Science

Tabla is a percussion instrument widely used in Indian classical music both as a solo instrument and as an accompaniment to vocal or instrumental music. Learning Tabla, like learning any musical instrument, is very much a discontinuous process. There are periods where one makes good progress. At other times, it feels that the learner is not making any progress at all. This alternation continues indefinitely. For one who has never learned a musical instrument, the first obstacle is the most critical. It usually occurs between 1 and 3 months. It is at this point that the initial enthusiasm has worn …

Optimization Of Mobile Sensor Movement In Self-Healing Sensor Networks, Samidip Basu Jan 2010

Optimization Of Mobile Sensor Movement In Self-Healing Sensor Networks, Samidip Basu

Computer Science

This paper moves forward the key idea as proposed in past research works - a self-healing deployment approach for sensor networks, where a small percentage of mobile sensors are deployed along with the static sensors into a field of concern. Mobile sensors can move to make-up for a coverage holes or sensor failure and significantly boost network performance. However, since there are energy constraints on each individual mobile sensor, potentially receiving multiple requests from network holes, the decision to move a mobile sensor has to be optimum, one that maximizes network benefit. In this paper, I propose a hybrid distributed …

Alternative Clustering Algorithms In Sensor Networks, Divya Gupta

Computer Science

A wireless sensor network is composed of a large number of tiny sensor nodes that can be deployed in a variety of environments like battle fields, water, large fields, and the like, and can transmit data to a Base station (BS). In a clusterbased network organization, sensor nodes are organized into clusters and one sensor node is selected as a sensor head (SH) in each cluster. Each SH denotes a facility and sends useful information to the Base Station (BS) through other SHs via the shortest path. In this paper, we study two clustering techniques, namely kmedian clustering and k-center …

A Technique To Detect A Black Hole In Ad Hoc Networks, Vijay Anand Suravarapu Jan 2010

A Technique To Detect A Black Hole In Ad Hoc Networks, Vijay Anand Suravarapu

Computer Science

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are important because they are widely used in war zones, rescue missions and other civilian applications where it is almost impossible to use any other networks. MANETs are temporary networks where nodes are allowed to join or leave the network at any point in ~ime. Though MANETs offer flexibility, self maintenance and dynamic topology, they suffer from limited resources, have less computational power and are susceptible to attacks. Due to the dynamic nature of MANETs, the secure transmission of data is one of the key issues in MANETs. Thus there is a need to safeguard …

A Clustering Approach To Improving Test Case Prioritization: An Industrial Case Study, Ryan Curtis Carlson Jan 2010

A Clustering Approach To Improving Test Case Prioritization: An Industrial Case Study, Ryan Curtis Carlson

Computer Science

Regression testing is an important activity for controlling the quality of a software product, but it accounts for a large proportion of the costs of software. We believe that an understanding of the underlying relationships in data about software systems, including data correlations and patterns, could provide information that would help improve regression testing techniques. As an initial approach to investigating the relationships in massive data in software repositories, in this paper, we consider a clustering approach to help improve test case prioritization. We implemented new prioritization techniques that incorporate a clustering approach and utilize history data on real faults …

Rend: Reliable And Energy-Efficient Node-Disjoint Paths In Wireless Sensor Networks, Siva Yanteru

Computer Science

In wireless sensor networks, finding most reliable and most efficient paths between source node and destination node is considered NP hard problem. We can increase reliability by ability to find node-disjoint alternate path when there is any disruption in the path from source to destination. If we can find reliable paths by keeping efficiency in consideration then we can increase both reliability and efficiency of paths between source and destination. In this paper, we present routing protocol for finding two node-disjoint paths between each pair of nodes in a wireless sensor networks. In proposed protocol, each and every node has …
