Change has been an integral part of the American education system since the 1830s (Lucas, 1999) when universities began preparing students to teach. Over the past 20 years, changes including federal mandates (Disabilities Education Act, 1990; No Child Left Behind, 2003) and increasing diversity in school populations require a responding sensitivity from classroom teachers. In the midst of challenges that these changes present, teachers are increasingly asked to do more.

Today’s law school graduates face two disturbing trends in the professional world. Each is well known, but neither is openly discussed in the law school setting. First, lawyers suffer from chronic professional dissatisfaction. Approximately one out of every four lawyers is dissatisfied with her job. Second, this dissatisfaction exacts an extraordinarily high price on lawyers, the legal profession, and society as a whole. Most startling, however, is the fact that the widespread dissatisfaction and the associated mental health-related problems prevalent in the legal profession actually begin in law school.

After careful review, the Policy Office concluded that the earlier format of proposed revisions to Regent Policy 2.13 (which was originally presented to the Regents on November 16, 2010 and integrated a range of policy modifications into a single and very lengthy policy), was confusing and administratively burdensome. Malignant glioma cells maintain an elevated intracellular pH (pH_i) within hypoxic–ischemic tumormicroenvironments through persistent activation of sodium–proton transport (McLean et al., 2000). Amiloride has been reported to selectively kill human malignant glioma cell lines but not primary astrocytes (Hegde et al., 2004). While amiloride reduces pH_i of malignant gliomas by inhibiting isoform 1 of sodium–proton exchange (NHE1), direct acidification was shown to be cytostatic rather than cytotoxic. At cytotoxic concentrations, amiloride has multiple drug targets including inhibition of NHE1 and sodium–calciumexchange. Amiloride's glioma cytotoxicity can be explained, at least in part, by dual inhibition of NHE1 and …

It is a commonplace today that per capita availability of fresh water is shrinking. In addition, it is well known that some 60 per cent of global freshwater flows are contained in the 263 river basins that are shared by two or more countries, and that around 40 per cent of the human population lives in these international basins. These facts underscore the necessity of cooperation between states sharing fresh water, whether it is on the surface or underground. Complex Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

The literature on epistasis describes various methods to detect epistatic interactions and to classify different types of epistasis. Reconstructability analysis (RA) has recently been used to detect epistasis in genomic data. This paper shows that RA offers a classification of types of epistasis at three levels of resolution (variable-based models without loops, variable-based models with loops, state-based models). These types can be defined by the simplest RA structures that model the data without information loss; a more detailed classification can be defined by the information content of multiple candidate structures. This thesis investigated the association of cognitive abilities and strategy shifting within a procedural-motor task. College students traced or drew various forms of a figure-8 before completing a battery of cognitive tests. A pilot study identified three distinct strategies for drawing a figure-8, whereas the current study manipulated the figure-8 stimuli to encourage these strategies at various points. Phase 1 had two counterbalanced conditions which instructed participants to trace versus draw a rotated figure-8. Phase 2 gradually morphed a figure-8 such as to encourage the three predominant strategies. Phase 3 was a condition which included stimuli from Phases 1 and …

Random numbers are important for gaming, simulation and cryptography. Random numbers have been generated using analog circuitry. Two problems exist with using analog circuits in a digital design: (1) analog components require an analog circuit designer to insure proper structure and functionality and (2) analog components are not easily transmigrated into a different fabrication technology. This paper proposes a class of random number generators that are constructed using only digital components and typical digital design methodology. Irrigation application method may affect crop yield and water productivity. Crop production was compared for spray, LEPA drag sock, and subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) application methods in the Texas High Plains. Crops included three seasons of grain sorghum, one season of soybean, and four seasons of cotton. Irrigation treatments were 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% of replacing full crop evapotranspiration, which was measured by neutron probe. For grain sorghum, SDI resulted in the largest grain yield and water use efficiency at the 25 and 50% irrigation treatments, followed by LEPA, but spray outperformed LEPA and SDI at the 75 …

The activity of the aqueous extract of Olea europaeawas testedat concentrations of 8, 15 or 20 mg/kg of body weight on lipid profileintwentyfemale local rabbits.These animals were randomly divided into four groups (five animals in each group). Three groups were dosed orally with the concentrations mentioned above, while the last was administered with distilled water and considered as a control group. These animals were orally dosed by aqueous extract using a micropipette for 30 days.The results showed that there was a significant (P<0.05) decrease in cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL-cholesterol), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-cholesterol) concentrations and atherosclerosis index means for the three treated groups with the aqueous extract of olive fruit compared with the control group. The results also showed that there was a significant (P<0.05) increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL-cholesterol) forthe three treated groups as compared withthe control group.In conclusion, the diet rich in olive fruit extract may decrease the risk of coronary heart disease by inhibiting LDL oxidation and improving the lipid profile.

The hydatid materials were collected and studied, so they were contained 50 fertile human hydatid cases {33 (66%) females and 17 (34%) males}. They were collected from Al-Ramadi General Hospital during the period from December, 2003 to July, 2004 .Cysts were observed in 40 (80%) from the liver, 5 (10%) from the lungs, 3 (6%) from the kidney and 2 (4%) cysts from urinary bladder. The specimens were taken from patients of different ages.
