Differential Toxicity Of Dna Adducts Of Mitomycin C, Jill Bargonetti, Elise Champeil, Maria Tomasz
Differential Toxicity Of Dna Adducts Of Mitomycin C, Jill Bargonetti, Elise Champeil, Maria Tomasz
Publications and Research
The clinically used antitumor agent mitomycin C (MC) alkylates DNA upon reductive activation, forming six covalent DNA adducts in this process. This review focuses on differential biological effects of individual adducts in various mammalian cell cultures, observed in the authors' laboratories. Evidence is reviewed that various adducts are capable of inducing different cell death pathways in cancer cells. This evidence is derived from a parallel study of MC and its derivatives 2,7-diaminomitosene (2,7-DAM) which is the main metabolite of MC and forms two mono-adducts with DNA, and decarbamoyl mitomycin C (DMC), which alkylates and cross-links DNA, predominantly with a chirality opposite …

Validation Of 3d Radiative Transfer In Coastal-Ocean Water Systems As Modeled By Dirsig, Jacqueline Amy Speir
Validation Of 3d Radiative Transfer In Coastal-Ocean Water Systems As Modeled By Dirsig, Jacqueline Amy Speir
Theses
The radiative transfer equation (RTE) is a mathematical description of radiative gains and losses experienced by a propagating electromagnetic wave in a participating medium. Except for an isotropic lossless vacuum, all other volumes have the potential to scatter, absorb and emit radiant energy. Of these possible events, the global scattering term is the greatest obstacle between a radiative transfer problem and its solution. Historically, the RTE has been solved using a host of analytical approximations and numerical methods. Typical solution models exploit plane-parallel assumptions where it is assumed that optical properties may vary vertically with depth, but have an infinite …

Between Agency And Accountability: An Ethnographic Study Of Volunteers Participating In A Juvenile Diversion Program, Marc R. Settembrino
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Since the 1970s, the United States has witnessed a great expansion of community-based restorative justice programs. These programs serve as alternatives to the traditional court and probation system. Unlike the traditional justice system, restorative justice focuses on repairing harm done by an offense and works toward restoring the offenders to good standing in the community. While there is a significant amount of research which has examined the effectiveness of community-based programs, relatively little research has focused on the community volunteers who participate in these programs. I conducted an ethnographic study (observations and interviews) of community volunteers participating in a juvenile …

A Case Study: The Lafayette Police Department Utilization Of Learning Organization Culture And Its Impact On The Investigations Division Recruit Officer Training Module, Scott D. Galloway
A Case Study: The Lafayette Police Department Utilization Of Learning Organization Culture And Its Impact On The Investigations Division Recruit Officer Training Module, Scott D. Galloway
Purdue Polytechnic Directed Projects
ABSTRACT The Lafayette Police Field Training Program utilizes knowledge sharing, knowledge sourcing, and emphasizes organizational assimilation by cycling patrol recruits through a detective division training section as a competency model to help train patrol recruit officers. Emergent themes from this research study revealed that the current design of the detective training module is effective for employee networking and organizational assimilation. The qualitative case study analysis indicated that improvements need to be made to the detective training module by committing to a training needs analysis, adjusting the detective training officer recruit assignment process, and to include patrol training officers in a …
A Guide To Drug Dealing, Scott Thomas Jacques
A Guide To Drug Dealing, Scott Thomas Jacques
Dissertations
The goal of this dissertation – A Guide to Drug Dealing – is to move scientists toward a deeper conceptual and theoretical understanding of illicit drug markets. What behaviors are experienced in the course of drug dealing? Why do some customers get a better price than others? What are the circumstances that result in retaliation? Why do some victimized drug dealers respond with peaceful social control rather than violence? What leads to the termination of drug dealing? When does the law handle drug market conflict? In short, this is a guide to drug dealing that – chapter by chapter – …
The Process Of Reintegration: A Qualitative Exploration Of The Realvictory Program And Criminogenic Factors, Celeste Marie Davis
The Process Of Reintegration: A Qualitative Exploration Of The Realvictory Program And Criminogenic Factors, Celeste Marie Davis
Theses and Dissertations
With prison populations on the rise, it is imperative to find re-entry programs that effectively decrease recidivism. Understanding the experiences of participants and the criminogenic factors that provoke and prohibit their successful reintegration is a vital aspect of evaluating re-entry programs. With sixteen in-depth interviews, this study evaluates the pilot re-entry program, RealVictory, by exploring the opinions and experiences of its participants including the key criminogenic factors affecting their successes and failures during the reintegration process. The two most pervasive criminogenic factors affecting recidivism for participants of this study were support systems and desire to change. While both the control …
The Effects Of Client Therapist Racial And Ethnic Matching: A Meta Analytic Review Of Empirical Research, Raquel Cabral Bowman
The Effects Of Client Therapist Racial And Ethnic Matching: A Meta Analytic Review Of Empirical Research, Raquel Cabral Bowman
Theses and Dissertations
In a widely cited 2003 report, the U.S. Surgeon General criticized mental health and social services within the United States for failing to adequately serve the needs of clients of color. The report highlighted the fact that therapists often do not adequately account for cultural variables in their evaluations or interventions. Clients of color are rarely seen by therapists who adequately understand their cultural values and backgrounds. To address this discrepancy, researchers have explored a variety of therapy process and outcome variables across clients seen by therapists of their same race vs. another race (often called "ethnic matching"). Over 200 …

The Brazilian Street Child: A Child Of The Local Community, Rebecca Goulart
The Brazilian Street Child: A Child Of The Local Community, Rebecca Goulart
JCCC Honors Journal
The images of Brazilian slums, and the street children that come from them, are recognized throughout the world. There are two different kinds of kids who make up Brazil’s street children population. The children who work on the streets, returning to their homes in the favelas at night, are referred to as the children ‘on the streets’. These children do odd jobs, such as guarding cars or selling gum. On the other hand, children who live on the streets full time are referred to as the children ‘of the streets’ and are generally involved in some sort of criminal activity. …

The Adam Walsh Act And The Failed Promise Of Administrative Federalism, Wayne A. Logan
The Adam Walsh Act And The Failed Promise Of Administrative Federalism, Wayne A. Logan
Scholarly Publications
For advocates of federalism, these are uncertain times. With hope of meaningful judicial federalism having largely receded, and Congress persisting in its penchant for intrusions on state authority, of late several scholars have championed the capacity of executive agencies to enforce and preserve federalism interests. This paper tests this position, providing the first empirically based critical analysis of administrative federalism, focusing on the recently enacted Adam Walsh Act, intended by Congress to redesign states’ sex offender registration and community notification laws. The paper casts significant doubt on the accepted empirical assumptions of administrative federalism, adding to the limited evidence amassed …
