Predictors Of Completion In A Batterer Treatment Program: The Effects Of Referral Source Supervision, Sara J. Barber, Emily M. Wright May 2010

Predictors Of Completion In A Batterer Treatment Program: The Effects Of Referral Source Supervision, Sara J. Barber, Emily M. Wright

Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications

Domestic violence offenders who are court mandated to attend a batterer treatment program are more likely to complete treatment than offenders who voluntarily attend. However, few studies have examined the amount or severity of referral source supervision and its effect on treatment completion. This study uses data from three referral sources in South Carolina (i.e., pretrial intervention, criminal domestic violence court, and summary court) to determine whether higher levels of monitoring during a 26-week hybrid cognitive-behavioral batterer treatment program increase the likelihood of completion among batterers. Results indicate that increased supervision exercised over the clients by the referral source during …

Comparing Work Values Of Students Within The General Education System To Those Of Students Within The Special Education System: A Review Of The Differences, Erin J. Brown

Case-Based Learning (Cbl) In Selected Physical Therapy Curricula And Its Perceived Effectiveness By Students, Faculty, And Administrators, Timothy Kirk Nelson

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Case-based learning (CBL) is commonly used in physical therapy curricula even though not much evidence exists as to the effectiveness of this instructional tool in physical therapy education. Through qualitative evaluation methodology, the researcher investigated the utilization and implementation of this instructional methodology in selected physical therapy curricula, as well as its perceived effectiveness by physical therapy students, faculty, and administrators. Data collection was performed through classroom observations, interviews, and focus group interviews at eight physical therapy programs across the United States that identified themselves as moderate to high implementers of CBL. Through the analysis of the qualitative data gleaned from …

Behind The Banner Of Patriotism: The New Orleans Chapter Of The American Red Cross And Auxiliary Branches 6 And 11 (1914-1917), Paula A. Fortier

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Socialite Laura Penrose and a group of wealthy businessmen founded the New Orleans Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1916. The Chapter expanded in 1917 with the addition of two black Auxiliary Branches chartered by nurses Louise Ross and Sarah Brown. Although Jim Crow dictated the division between the Chapter and its Branches within the mostly female organization, racial barriers did not prohibit them from uniting for the cause of national relief. The American Red Cross differed from other forms of biracial Progressivism by the very nature of public relief work for a national charity. American Red Cross relief …

The "Re-Latinization" Of New Orleans In The Twentieth Century: Multiple Waves Of Hispanic Migration, Carlos M. Martinez Ii May 2010

The "Re-Latinization" Of New Orleans In The Twentieth Century: Multiple Waves Of Hispanic Migration, Carlos M. Martinez Ii

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Latin Americans immigrating to New Orleans during the Jim Crow period found New Orleans to be a place where they could assimilate. Several factors produced a tolerant climate for Latin Americans. These included New Orleanians' tolerant attitude, which was possible since Latin Americans arrived in small numbers and different waves. Latinos also helped develop trade with Latin America. Also, unlike other areas in the country, immigrants that came to New Orleans came from all over Central and South America. They were a highly skilled group and acted as cultural and power brokers between Latin America and the city. In spite …

A Community-Engaged Research Approach To The Development Of An Assessment Tool For Historical Data Collection Of Saara Client Population, Jessica Markey

Theses and Dissertations

Through collaboration between the Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance (SAARA) and several community partners, a need was identified for a new measurement tool to gather comprehensive client histories for program evaluation and development. The purpose of this study was to (1) develop a culturally relevant and organizationally appropriate mechanism for the collection of comprehensive client histories and (2) to provide the opportunity for staff to engage in a new process of developing and implementing data collection strategies. As a result of the use of a community-based participatory approach, (1) a missed opportunity for program evaluation and development was identified, …
