Kentucky Teacher Education Journal: The Journal of the Teacher Education Division of the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children
This study evaluates how educators interpret the Multidimensional Framework for Inclusive Literature (MDFIL), a tool for evaluating and selecting multicultural literature for their classrooms. Participants self-identified as current, former/retired, or student teachers, or as undergraduates pursuing a teaching license at the time of the survey. Incorporating multicultural literature into educational settings has a positive impact on children's development. Multicultural literature fosters feelings of acceptance, cultural awareness, and empathy among students. By exposing children to diverse cultural perspectives, multicultural literature not only enhances their understanding of their own identities but also cultivates a greater appreciation of others' experiences. The benefits of …

This project aims to explore existing literature around burnout and empathy as related to job competency in legal professionals and develop a survey that explores empathy as a potential indirect mediating variable from burnout to employee engagement. The article additionally discusses the pathway from second-hand trauma to empathy …

Lessons Learned In Providing Infant And Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Rashele Wade
Journal of Global Awareness
Access to quality childcare is a protective factor from lifelong issues such as school failure, school drop-out, and incarceration. Conversely, preschool suspension and expulsion are significant risk factors. Evidence-based interventions, such as Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation, aim to reduce and eliminate the incidence of preschool suspensions and expulsions. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted access to quality childcare for many children across the country and globally. This study utilized a qualitative action research approach and generic qualitative inquiry to examine the research question, “How can we improve Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation through lessons learned during the …

Northeast Journal of Complex Systems (NEJCS)
The study investigated the implementation and processes of the DREAMS Intervention Program (DIP) web-based classroom model for understanding Universal Human Values (UHV) among college-going youth mentors. The DREAMS (Desire, Readiness, Empowerment, Action, Mastery for Success) Intervention Program (DIP) is a transformative five-stage model that fosters psychosocial development and leadership skills among children and adolescents. This evidence-based three-year After-School-Program (ASP) was guided through the theoretical lens of motivation, goal-setting, and self-determination that pairs middle school underperformers with college-going youth mentors and senior adults from local communities. Universal Human Values (UHV) are deep-rooted values that are needed in the contemporary educational system …

Experimentation, Adaptability, And Ingenuity In The Community Art Studio, Louisa Mary Drab
Expressive Therapies Theses
To examine the question, “How can community art making in an open studio embolden women through creative adaptability, ingenuity, and experimentation?” a mosaic project was conducted over four sessions with women attending an art studio at a day shelter. Current literature illustrates the scope of success open studio has had in promoting community connectivity through the communion of individuality. The expressive therapies continuum, open studio approach, trauma-informed care, and the therapeutic alliance are the pillars that informed this exploration. This community engagement project melded together structural components of mosaic-making with the tenets of open studio, where guiding and sharing are …

Jadughar: The House Of Magic, Dhruvi A. Shah
Masters Theses
Jadughar or the House of Magic is what people call a 'museum' in parts of South Asia. The practice of museum making, at its origin, is the act of collecting, preserving, interpreting and representing a culture’s tangible and intangible heritage to make it accessible to diverse audiences. Since the early 19th century such practices have been performed at various kala bhandars (art centers) in India, without the need of a formal or institutional organisation. The British introduced the model of a ‘museum’ in South Asia, with the aim of not only preserving ethnographic collections, but also showcasing their power and …

“I Have A Voice”: Bridging The Communication And Sensemaking Gap Between Restorative Justice Practice And Program Implementation, Stefan Cocorelis
Dissertations
Restorative justice (RJ), a philosophy, practice, and movement inspired by local, largely Indigenous traditions, has increasingly been introduced in modern criminal justice systems as an alternative process to more comprehensively address harmful incidents, heal harms, and meet victim’s needs. While RJ implementation growth is encouraging for its advocates, there remain significant questions around formalized RJ practice. Specifically, little is known about the decision-making process in implementing and administering RJ programming within criminal justice. This dissertation aimed to contribute to the understanding of RJ practice and implementation efforts within criminal justice systems by putting emphasis on practitioners already working directly in …

Holistic Management Of Epilepsy In Adults With Intellectual Development Disorders, Elena Fonseca, Antonella Riva, Samuel López‐Maza, Malin Zaddach, Marie‐Claire Porter, Ingo Borggraefe, Lance Watkins, Andreas Schulze‐Bonhage, Rohit Shankar, Pasquale Striano, Lina Nashef
Peninsula Medical School
This seminar addresses the complexity of the management of epilepsy in adults with intellectual development disorders (IDD), advocating holistic and multidisciplinary care aligned with the learning objectives of the International League Against Epilepsy. Epilepsy is significantly more prevalent in people with IDD, presenting unique diagnostic, therapeutic, and psychosocial challenges. Accurate diagnosis is hampered by limitations in communication, necessitating reliance on caregivers' observations. In adults with IDD and epilepsy, utilization of diagnostic tools, e.g., video electroencephalograph (EEG) monitoring, is helpful but can be challenging. Management requires careful consideration of cognitive and behavioral comorbidities and the effects of antiseizure medications (ASMs) on …
