The Impact Of A Responsive And Proactive Market Orientation On Innovation And Business Performance, Mateja Bodlaj
The Impact Of A Responsive And Proactive Market Orientation On Innovation And Business Performance, Mateja Bodlaj
Economic and Business Review
The purpose of the presented empirical study was to examine the impact of a responsive and proactive market orientation on the degree of novelty, innovation performance and business performance. Data obtained from 325 Slovenian companies that introduced product, process, marketing and organisational innovations during the 2005-2007 period were analysed via structural equation modelling. The main findings reveal that only a proactive market orientation is positively related to the degree of novelty, whereas no support was found for the direct impact of both market orientations on innovation performance and business performance.

In this article, we estimate the movement of natural rate of unemployment in Slovenia since 1997, as the non-accelerating inflation rate of unemployment (NAIRU). The estimates based on the Kalman filter method indicate a stable decline in the NAIRU from 1997 to the end of 2004, when the lowest NAIRU was detected during the period studied, somewhere between 4.5 and 5.1%. After 2005, a gradual increase in the NAIRU occurred, which came to a halt at the end of 2007. Since the second quarter of 2007, the actual unemployment rate has been at least 1 percentage point lower than the …

Today's children and adolescents are the first fully digital generation, changing the rules of how we use information technology, communication and marketing. In the article, I addressed the model of attitudes/values/behaviours to Internet advertising among children by reviewing the existing literature, starting by critically reviewing existing models for adults. The article describes the structure and methodology of the research (operationalisation of variables, data collection, reliability and validity of measurement, hypothesis development) and the sample characteristics (young people in Slovenia). We analysed the results obtained, tested the hypotheses, and evaluated the adequacy of the proposed research model for attitudes/values/behaviours to online …

Economic and Business Review
The concepts of organizational and occupational identification have been identified as key factors in workplace morale and behaviour. Through a survey, we determined the extent of both concepts and the link between them among Slovenian accountants and auditors. The results show that Slovenian accountants and auditors identify more with the organization than with the profession, and the level of both identifications is relatively low. Based on the results, we conclude that cultivating employees' professional identification should be in the interest of companies, as there is a positive relationship between professional and organizational identification and the latter has important positive effects …

On Optimizing Traffic Signal Phase Ordering In Road Networks, Jason Barnes, Vamsi Paruchuri, Sriram Chellappan
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Traffic signals are an elementary component of all urban road networks and play a critical role in controlling the flow of vehicles. However, current road transportation systems and traffic signal implementations are very inefficient. the objective of this research is to evaluate optimal phase ordering within a signal cycle to minimize the average waiting delay and thus in turn minimizing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. through extensive simulation analysis, we show that by choosing optimal phase ordering, the stopped delay can be reduced by 40% per car at each signal resulting in a saving of up to 100 …

From Technical And Cost Efficiency To Exporting: Firm Level Data From Slovenia, Ksenja Pušnik
From Technical And Cost Efficiency To Exporting: Firm Level Data From Slovenia, Ksenja Pušnik
Economic and Business Review
The paper investigates the influence of technical and allocative efficiency on export performance of Slovenian individual firms. The main contribution of the paper to the literature is the test on whether technical and allocative efficiencies, measured by data envelopment analysis (DEA) and stochastic frontier function (SFA), significantly influence the export orientation of individual firms. Our evidence suggests that firms which are more efficient than their competitors in industry are more export oriented and that technical efficiency is more significant for firms’ export orientation than allocative efficiency. The evidence also suggests that along efficiency export activity of individual firms is significantly …

The Impact Of Monetary Policy And Exchange Rate Regime On Real Gdp And Prices In The Republic Of Macedonia, Besnik Fetai, Zeqiri Izet
Economic and Business Review
This paper investigates the relative costs and benefits associated with introducing a more active monetary and a different exchange rate regime in the Republic of Macedonia. In this finding, the econometrics result show that introducing a more active monetary policy and a different strategy of the exchange rate targeting in order to promote rapid economic growth could easy disturb macroeconomic stability (after having achieved it at a substantial cost) without any significant economic benefits. Therefore, introducing a more active monetary policy and a different strategy of the exchange rate regime is likely to incur more costs than benefits, since changes …

This study aims to re-examine the effectiveness of liquidity hypothesis in stock split. Liquidity hypothesis in stock split is defined as the returning stock price to the optimal trading level. Based on Ekaputra and Putri (2006), this study consists of two analysis methods such as: 1) Paired t-test among return volatility and liquidity during stock split 2) OLS-test focuses on the consistency of the model of Ekaputra and Putri (2006) and in line with Kim et al. (2007), this research includes Amihud’s Illiquidity as an alternative proxy of liquidity in stock split in addition to relative spread. According to paired …

Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia
This research is aimed to analyze the influence of book-tax differences on bond ratings in Indonesia for six years of observation period (2003-2008) using the ordinal logit regression method. Variables used to proxy book-tax differences are deferred tax expenses and tax-to-book ratios. As apposed to Crabtree and Maher (2009) who found book-tax differences have a negative and significant influence on bond ratings. This research shows that large positive deferred taxes have no significant influence whereas large negative book-tax differences have a positive and significant influence on bond ratings, which means the larger negative book-tax differences from the company will increase …

Universal Design Of Transportation Systems: A Case Study Of Access And Mobility Of People With Disabilities At Selected Intersections In Dar Es Salaam, Nurdin Mushule
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
The pedestrian facilities at intersections must be usable by pedestrians of all ages and capabilities. Intersections in particular must be designed to safely accommodate pedestrians of all ages and physical and mental abilities. Often, however, intersection designs fail to accommodate people with visual and mobility disabilities. In this regard, for pedestrians with disabilities, intersections can prove to be a challenge. Some of those challenges include provision of insufficient pedestrian clearance time due to use of inappropriate design pedestrian speed. Most importantly, the required facilities to enable People With Disabilities (PWD) to use the intersection without hindrance may be missing. Obstacles …

Optimization of delactosed whey permeate (DWP) treatment for fresh-cut tomato was accomplished by evaluating different quality, nutritional and microbial markers. Response surface methodology was applied to obtain polynomial model equations. DWP concentration (0 - 5 %) and storage (0 - 10 days) were used as independent factors in order to optimize the process. The analyses showed that increases in DWP concentration extended the quality of the fresh-cut tomato significantly (p3 % were scored unacceptable by the sensory panel due to perceived off-odours. DWP treatment also improved retention of ascorbic acid and lycopene over storage. The total aerobic counts and yeast …

In May 2009, the landlord of a rent-stabilized building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn openly declared his intention to force out the current tenants if they did not leave on their own. Located on North 8th Street right off trendy Bedford Avenue, the property was prime real estate in Williamsburg. The only obstacles that stood between the landlord and the potential for him to reap large profits were the rent-stabilized status of the building and all the tenants who paid the regulated rent, a fraction of the market rate. Once he forced those tenants to leave, he could “gut rehab” the apartments, …

On November 4, 2009, an Italian court found a group of Italian military intelligence agents, operatives from the Central Intelligence Agency and a U.S. Air Force (USAF) officer guilty of the 2003 kidnapping of terror suspect Abu Omar. Thrown in a van on the streets of Milan, the abduction took Abu Omar from Italy to Egypt, where he was allegedly tortured and interrogated about his role in recruiting fighters for extremist Islamic causes, including the insurgency in Iraq. This essay posits that lost amidst politically charged rhetoric about Bush administration impunity and the “war on terror” is that the Italian …
Identifying Service Quality Dimensions As Antecedents To Customer Satisfaction In Retail Banking, Barbara Culiberg, Iča Rojšek
Identifying Service Quality Dimensions As Antecedents To Customer Satisfaction In Retail Banking, Barbara Culiberg, Iča Rojšek
Economic and Business Review
This paper explores service quality in a retail bank setting in Slovenia and its influence on customer satisfaction. In previous studies both SERVQUAL and SERVPERF scales have been used for measuring service quality. Based on SERVPERF a 28-item scale has been developed for this study. Through factor analysis four dimensions of service quality have been obtained. The results from regression analysis suggest that all four dimensions of service quality as well as service range influence customer satisfaction. The information provided by this research can be used when designing marketing strategies to improve customer satisfaction in retail banking.
My Plan To Play: A Personal Journey Towards A Lifetime Of Play, Aimee Blaquiere
My Plan To Play: A Personal Journey Towards A Lifetime Of Play, Aimee Blaquiere
Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection
In my first Critical and Creative Thinking course, I chose to explore singing and performing meaningful songs with my father as a form of creative thinking. This project led to the realization that, as an adult, I had forgotten what it was like to play. With this acknowledgement, I was prompted to explore underlying reasons for why my capacity to play was blocked in the first place. In doing so, I explored play theories and reflected on my own forms of play, as a basis for understanding how to successfully re-introduce play into my life. Through metacognitive reflection, this synthesis …

The success of reconciling work and family responsibilities is influenced by many factors, both at the level of individuals and their families and at the level of organisations and the state. The main objective of the paper is to present the impact of the implementation of family-friendly measures in organizations. The project covers Slovenian companies that have introduced a family-friendly company certificate. The study has shown that employers who support work-life balance measures achieve benefits in several areas, including reduced turnover and sick leave, improved retention and recruitment of staff, increased productivity, motivation, satisfaction and commitment.

Promoting Self-Sufficiency? How Hra's Exclusion Of Incarceration From The Definition Of "Temporary Absence" Contradicts Statutory Mandates And Hurts New York Families, Matthew P. Main
City University of New York Law Review
The New York City Human Resources Administration has implemented a policy that has a punitive and disproportionate impact on poor families of color. The policy departs from the legislative mandate to support New York’s neediest and most at risk by arbitrarily excluding incarceration from the definition of “temporary absence,” as it applies to the Cash Assistance program. Aside from the discriminatory impact on poor children and families, the policy decision comes at a higher cost to New York taxpayers in the midst of a financial crisis. This Comment evaluates the legal flaws in the policy, the persons it targets, the …

Chlamydia trachomatis infections cause severe and irreversible damage that can lead to infertility and blindness in both males and females. Following infection of epithelial cells, Chlamydia induces production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Unconventionally, Chlamydiae use ROS to their advantage by activating caspase-1, which contributes to chlamydial growth. NLRX1, a member of the Nod-like receptor family that translocates to the mitochondria, can augment ROS production from the mitochondria following Shigella flexneri infections. However, in general, ROS can also be produced by membrane-bound NADPH oxidases. Given the importance of ROS-induced caspase-1 activation in growth of the chlamydial vacuole, we investigated the …
