Feasibility Study Among Military Personnel With Traumatic Amputation During Military Combat Or Training, Michele (Shelly) R. Burdette-Taylor Phd, Msn, Rn-Bc, Cwcn, Cfcn

Dissertations

Military operations have resulted in a significant number of mangled extremities leading to traumatic amputations. Extremity injuries predominate, representing 50% to 70% of all injuries treated (Melcer, 2010). The majority of injuries sustained in Operation Endearing Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) are combined penetrating, burn and blast injuries, traumatic amputation, and infections from the multi-drug resistant organism, Acinetobacter (Melcer, 2010). The purpose of this study was to measure the quality of well-being and impact of events in a group of adults who served in the U.S. armed forces and sustained the loss of one or more limbs during any combat or …

Does Entropic Gravity Bound The Masses Of The Photon And Graviton?, Jonas R. Mureika, R. B. Mann Dec 2010

Does Entropic Gravity Bound The Masses Of The Photon And Graviton?, Jonas R. Mureika, R. B. Mann

Physics Faculty Works

If the information transfer between test particle and holographic screen in entropic gravity respects both the uncertainty principle and causality, a lower limit on the number of bits in the universe relative to its mass may be derived. Furthermore, these limits indicate particles that putatively travel at the speed of light -- the photon and/or graviton -- have a non-zero mass m≥10−68 kg. This result is found to be in excellent agreement with current experimental mass bounds on the graviton and photon, suggesting that entropic gravity may be the result of a (recent) softly-broken local symmetry. Stronger bounds emerge …

Specifics Of Small Polish Family Businesses - Conclusions From Research Results, Łukasz Sułkowski, Andrzej Marjański Dec 2010

Specifics Of Small Polish Family Businesses - Conclusions From Research Results, Łukasz Sułkowski, Andrzej Marjański

European Management Studies

Family enterprises are very diversified and do not constitute a uniform group of economic subjects. Diversifying subjects of this type is bound most of all with their size and their membership to different sectors. Distinguishing family business is being carried out based on a number of criteria, coming down to pointing out connections between the property or running a company and the family in control. Family enterprise issues concern subjects controlled by one family, but problems of dependencies between family bonds and organizations are broader. Issues of nepotism, public trust, power patterns dominant in small groups, social roles, mechanisms of …

Proliferasi Dan Etno-Nasionalisme Daripada Pemberdayaan Dalam Pemekaran Daerah Di Indonesia, Leo Agustino, Mohammad Agus Yusoff

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

This paper attempts to explain and examine the variation on amalgamation in Indonesia. The proliferation of provinces, districts, cities as well as the problems after the implementation of amalgamation are discussed in this paper. The central argument of this paper is that the amalgamating process is not only driven by purpose of amalgamation itself—e.g. to provide better public goods, public services and welfare of the people etc.—, but also driven by the role of elite actor(s). It is argued that the politics of identity used by elite actor(s) is an instrument to unite local people to support their desire to …

Penanganan Pengaduan Masyarakat Mengenai Pelayanan Publik, Sad Dian Utomo

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

Citizen participation is a manifestation of people empowerment, an effort to improve people’s ability in decision making, as well as an attempt to control society’s own future. Local government in Semarang is aware of such urgency of participation and thus establishes the Center of Public Service Complaint Management (CPSCM) as an institution to coordinate, implement, and manage people’s complaints of public service. This research uses qualitative approach with Amstein’s ladder of citizen participation, and Burns, Hambleton & Hogget’s ladder of citizen empowerment as the main theories. This research aims to analyze factors that influence the effectiveness of CPSCM as an …

Theatre Of The Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality And The Muse Of Place, Lara B. Cahill-Booth Dec 2010

Theatre Of The Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality And The Muse Of Place, Lara B. Cahill-Booth

Open Access Dissertations

Theatre of the Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality and the Muse of Place is a literary geography that explores how specific environments shape imaginative interventions into history and language. I begin by examining the unity of Derek Walcott's vision of the sea, tracing its ties to oral history, literary canon, and personal reveries of emplacement in Omeros and other epic-minded poems. I follow the sea to its continental origins, examining the Guyanas, an Amazonian bioregion on the borderlands of Guyana, Brazil, and Venezuela, as a place imaginatively remapped by twentieth-century novelists Alejo Carpentier, Wilson Harris, Mario de Andrade, and Pauline Melville. I …

Extraction Of Contact Resistance In Carbon Nanofiber Via Interconnects With Varying Lengths, Ken Li, Patrick Wilhite, Vinit Khera, Shoba Krishnan, Xuhui Sun, Cary Y. Yang Dec 2010

Extraction Of Contact Resistance In Carbon Nanofiber Via Interconnects With Varying Lengths, Ken Li, Patrick Wilhite, Vinit Khera, Shoba Krishnan, Xuhui Sun, Cary Y. Yang

Electrical and Computer Engineering

A method to extract the contact resistance and bulk resistivity of vertically grown carbon nanofibers (CNFs) or similar one-dimensional nanostructures is described. Using a silicon-compatible process to fabricate a terrace test structure needed for the CNF length variation, the contact resistance is extracted by measuring in situ the resistances of individual CNFs with different lengths and within a small range of diameters using a nanoprober inside a scanning electron microscope. Accurate determination of contact resistances for various combinations of catalysts and underlayer metals can lead to eventual optimization of materials’ growth and device fabrication processes for CNF via interconnects.

Metastable Anions Of Dinitrobenzene: Resonances For Electron Attachment And Kinetic Energy Release, A. Mauracher, S. Denifl, A. Edtbauer, M. Hager, M. Probst, Olof E. Echt, T. D. Maerk, P. Scheier, T. A. Field, K. Graupner Dec 2010

Metastable Anions Of Dinitrobenzene: Resonances For Electron Attachment And Kinetic Energy Release, A. Mauracher, S. Denifl, A. Edtbauer, M. Hager, M. Probst, Olof E. Echt, T. D. Maerk, P. Scheier, T. A. Field, K. Graupner

Physics & Astronomy

Attachment of free, low-energy electrons to dinitrobenzene (DNB) in the gas phase leads to DNB as well as several fragment anions. DNB, (DNB-H), (DNB-NO), (DNB-2NO), and (DNB-NO(2)) are found to undergo metastable (unimolecular) dissociation. A rich pattern of resonances in the yield of these metastable reactions versus electron energy is observed; some resonances are highly isomer-specific. Most metastable reactions are accompanied by large average kinetic energy releases (KER) that range from 0.5 to 1.32 eV, typical of complex rearrangement reactions, but (1,3-DNB-H)(-) features a resonance with a KER of only 0.06 eV for loss of NO. (1,3-DNB-NO)(-) offers a rare …
