Physical Security And Stockpile Management, Dave Diaz Jul 2010

Physical Security And Stockpile Management, Dave Diaz

The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction

Physical security and stockpile management is quickly becoming one of the most pressing threat-reduction issues the United States and other countries must address. Aging stockpiles of conventional weapons and increasingly unstable munitions from the Cold War or earlier pose a serious threat in many countries that no longer have a national-security need for them.

School-Based Mental Health Services: A National Survey Of School Psychologists’ Practices And Perceptions, Allison Friedrich Jul 2010

School-Based Mental Health Services: A National Survey Of School Psychologists’ Practices And Perceptions, Allison Friedrich

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study explored the current role of school psychologists in the provision of school-based mental health services, including factors that relate to their provision of such services, by surveying a national sample of practicing school psychologists. Despite an extensive knowledge base regarding which professional services school psychologists provide in general, few studies have focused exclusively on specific modalities of mental health services. Previous lines of research also have not fully identified why school psychologists do not spend as much of their professional time in the provision of mental health services as they would desire. The Brazilian Street Child: A Child Of The Local Community, Rebecca Goulart Jul 2010

The Brazilian Street Child: A Child Of The Local Community, Rebecca Goulart

JCCC Honors Journal

The images of Brazilian slums, and the street children that come from them, are recognized throughout the world. There are two different kinds of kids who make up Brazil’s street children population. The children who work on the streets, returning to their homes in the favelas at night, are referred to as the children ‘on the streets’. These children do odd jobs, such as guarding cars or selling gum. On the other hand, children who live on the streets full time are referred to as the children ‘of the streets’ and are generally involved in some sort of criminal activity. …

The Adam Walsh Act And The Failed Promise Of Administrative Federalism, Wayne A. Logan Jul 2010

The Adam Walsh Act And The Failed Promise Of Administrative Federalism, Wayne A. Logan

Scholarly Publications

For advocates of federalism, these are uncertain times. With hope of meaningful judicial federalism having largely receded, and Congress persisting in its penchant for intrusions on state authority, of late several scholars have championed the capacity of executive agencies to enforce and preserve federalism interests. This paper tests this position, providing the first empirically based critical analysis of administrative federalism, focusing on the recently enacted Adam Walsh Act, intended by Congress to redesign states’ sex offender registration and community notification laws. The paper casts significant doubt on the accepted empirical assumptions of administrative federalism, adding to the limited evidence amassed …
