Implementing The Customer Relationship Paradigm In Sports Marketing, Lynn W. Mcgee Jan 2010

Implementing The Customer Relationship Paradigm In Sports Marketing, Lynn W. Mcgee

AMTP Proceedings 2010

With the increasing attention to services marketing, the paradigms that guide marketing practitioners are shifting. An emerging approach useful to sports marketing is the study of customer relationships and their role in marketing mix design. This qualitative study examines the process, benefits and costs of implementing the customer relationship paradigm in brand identity development. A new baccalaureate university introduced athletics—and needed a mascot, colors and visual identity. Gronroos’ model of external, internal and interactive marketing guided the process. The results demonstrated the benefits of the approach and identified the need for stronger concepts and measures in this emerging research.

The Nexus Of Payroll, Performance, Ticket Prices, And Attendance In Mlb, Sam Fullerton

AMTP Proceedings 2010

This study uses secondary data from the past ten seasons to explore key issues germane to Major League Baseball. Focusing on attendance, payroll, performance, and the cost of attending, several key relationships were identified. Huge disparities in spending are documented. Perhaps most importantly, there is a meaningful relationship between performance and attendance. Equally important is the relationship between performance and the team’s payroll. Other relationships were documented and suggestions are articulated. These suggestions include future research and managerial issues such as the implementation of a hard salary cap.

The Lifeblood Model: The Power Of Trust In E-Commerce Communication, Miles Clinton Coleman Jan 2010

The Lifeblood Model: The Power Of Trust In E-Commerce Communication, Miles Clinton Coleman

AMTP Proceedings 2010

Relationship marketing has been established as a valuable approach for use in business to consumer transactions. When utilized in e-commerce environments however, this approach seems to falter in light of the risk and uncertainty components inherent in electronically mediated exchange. The reluctance of a consumer to partake in an exchange with a business causes the possibility of a successful relationship to dwindle. In this paper the lifeblood model is proposed as a means to further understanding the power of trust in mitigating e-commerce communication exchanges. Practical applications of the model are also discussed.

A Logo Selection Method, Tulay Girard, Michelle Pope Jan 2010

A Logo Selection Method, Tulay Girard, Michelle Pope

AMTP Proceedings 2010

Many companies and sports teams have revised their logos over time in efforts to reposition their brand image. Still, the need for establishing a reliable method to guide this important decision still persists. This study offers an empirical method for selecting logos for companies and/or brands by testing the perceptions of consumers using 16 bi-polar personality traits adapted from the literature. The data were collected from undergraduate marketing students for demonstration purposes. The paper proposes that the perceptions for a logo of multiple samples from the same target population will be the same. The findings support the proposition. Implications and …

Attitudes Towards Consumer Transgressions In The Marketplace, Sam Fullerton, Larry Neale Jan 2010

Attitudes Towards Consumer Transgressions In The Marketplace, Sam Fullerton, Larry Neale

AMTP Proceedings 2010

A sample of 815 adults drawn from the general American population provided their perception of the appropriateness of 12 questionable consumer actions in the marketplace. The scenarios investigated ranged from illegal actions such as inflating one’s losses when filing an insurance claim to actions that while not illegal, may raise questions of ethics. The 12 scenarios exhibited a wide range of mean responses on the six-point scale thereby supporting an often stated premise that consumer ethics is situational in nature. An array of commonly employed demographic questions was also included on the Internet-based survey, and differences of opinion were documented …

A Tale Of Two Worlds: A Second Life For Higher Education?, Daniel Demaiolo, Donna Walsh Jan 2010

A Tale Of Two Worlds: A Second Life For Higher Education?, Daniel Demaiolo, Donna Walsh

AMTP Proceedings 2010

This exploratory research investigates the virtual world industry, explanations for its growth and emerging trends for entrepreneurial ventures and marketing communications. It then explores the effectiveness of operating and promoting higher education in Second Life. Results illustrate consumers 17-24 years old still rely on traditional media for information related to higher education. Developing a business model and marketing mix in Second Life, that often features uncensored content, may not be an appropriate method of connecting with the target demographic. Benefits of utilizing virtual worlds are considered; further research is recommended; suggestions are offered to increase Second Life’s viability in higher …

Regulation Of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type 1 Infection And Replication, Gunjan Choudhary Jan 2010

Regulation Of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type 1 Infection And Replication, Gunjan Choudhary

All Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)

Retroviruses have evolved complex mechanisms to regulate their cellular tropism and gene expression. It is generally accepted that productive infections proceed via interactions between viral envelope molecules and specific receptors on the host cell surface. Currently, there is no known receptor for HTLV-1, though a number of factors that enhance entry have been identified. In an effort to identify a cellular receptor or attachment factor for HTLV-1, we carried out a retroviral cDNA library screen, in which cDNA from permissive HeLa S3 cells was introduced into poorly susceptible NIH 3T3 cells. These cells were selected after infection with HTLV-1 envelope …

The Partnership Approach To Environmental Governance: The Case Of The Moor Trees Partnership Network, Clive Bastin Jan 2010

The Partnership Approach To Environmental Governance: The Case Of The Moor Trees Partnership Network, Clive Bastin

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Theses

Academic discussion of policy-making and governing indicates a significant shift in the model of governance away from top-down state control to the bottom-up approach of engaging non-state actors (Goodwin and Painter, 1996; Jessop, 1998; Stoker, 1993, 1998). Central to governance theory are new forms of policy organisation, in effect, a shift from state monopoly of decision-making towards partnering with non-state (and, therefore, non-elected) actors for the formulation and delivery of sustainability objectives. It is argued that these partnerships are a key aspect of governance, which, in turn has become one of the main themes in environmental politics (Imrie and Raco, …

Cultural Responses To Volcanic Hazards On Mt Merapi, Indonesia, Katherine Helen Mary Donovan Jan 2010

Cultural Responses To Volcanic Hazards On Mt Merapi, Indonesia, Katherine Helen Mary Donovan

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Theses

Over the last decade an interdisciplinary science has evolved in order to reduce the impact of natural hazards by incorporating social sciences into physical hazard studies. This science has revealed that a community's ability to anticipate, cope with and recover from the impact of natural hazards relies upon that society's vulnerability. The concept of vulnerability has conventionally focussed on certain key social statistics such as wealth, age and gender, yet there is another element of vulnerability: the component of culture. In this study culture refers to the oral histories, taboos, ceremonies and legends that are created in order to explain, …

Nucleation Control In Size And Dispersity In Metallic Nanoparticles: The Prominent Role Of Particle Aggregation, Vernal Richards Jan 2010

Nucleation Control In Size And Dispersity In Metallic Nanoparticles: The Prominent Role Of Particle Aggregation, Vernal Richards

All Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)

The aim of this project is to investigate the effect of aggregative nucleation and growth on the final size and dispersity in metallic nanoparticle systems. Aggregative nucleation functions are determined for the first time for three nanocrystal systems, namely gold: Au), silver: Ag) and bismuth: Bi). These nucleation functions give critical information that correlates closely with the size and dispersity of t+X123he nanocrystals synthesized. The aggregative nucleation functions and growth kinetics of pre-synthesized Au nanoparticles as a function of tetra-n-octylammonium bromide: n-octyl4NBr) is investigated. For each kinetic trial, the time dependence of the aggregative nucleation rate is extracted from the …

Film Review: Gran Torino And Star Trek, Adrienne D. Davis Jan 2010

Film Review: Gran Torino And Star Trek, Adrienne D. Davis

Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies Faculty Research

Race has long been a central object of political reflection. The salience of racial difference remains hotly debated, figuring in both "utopian" and "dystopian" visions of America’s political future. If race is a primary configuration of "difference" and inequality in the nation, then intimacy between the races is often construed as either a bellwether of equality and political utopia or a re-inscribing of political dominance, typically represented as sexual predation by men against women. Quite expectedly, these political fantasies and fears are often played out at the multiplex, and we can see them in stark relief in two recent films …

Creating Electronic Evidence Rooms For Ncate Accreditation: Using College Livetext Solutions, Natalie A. Johnson-Leslie

Teacher Education Faculty Publications

For nearly a century the clarion call for more accountability at all levels of education across the USA has been made. As a result, we find accreditation bodies (national, regional and specialized), in the USA being independent of the Department of Education. In this chapter, the focus will be on creating electronic evidence rooms for The National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE was developed over 50 years ago requiring concrete evidence that teacher candidates are prepared rigorously to acquire the relevant body of knowledge and field experiences needed for them to be successful teachers. With technological …
