Utilization Of Simulation To Teach Pelvic Examination Skills To Medical Students: Implications For Medical Education, Brenda Seago
Utilization Of Simulation To Teach Pelvic Examination Skills To Medical Students: Implications For Medical Education, Brenda Seago
Theses and Dissertations
Medical education is changing. Physicians have less time for teaching clinical skills and for direct observation of medical students, due to sicker patients in the hospital, shorter hospital stays, competing demands of research and patient care, and implementation of the eighty hour work week for residents. The consumer movement increased awareness of medical errors, patient safety and quality of healthcare. Teaching the pelvic examination is ethically complex. Questions have arisen about medical students learning to conduct the pelvic examination on actual patients. This study utilizes the pelvic examination simulator and genital teaching associates (GTAs) to teach pelvic exam skills to …

Libs And Lite Emission Based Laser Remote Sensing Of Chemical Species And Enhanced Modeling Of Atmospheric Absorption, Dzianis V. Pliutau
Libs And Lite Emission Based Laser Remote Sensing Of Chemical Species And Enhanced Modeling Of Atmospheric Absorption, Dzianis V. Pliutau
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Laser-Induced Breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and Laser-Induced Thermal Emission (LITE) emission based laser remote sensing were investigated with the application to the remote measurements of trace chemical species. In particular, UVvisible LIBS and Mid-IR LITE systems were developed and measurements of remote targets and chemical surfaces were studied. The propagation through the atmosphere of the multi-wavelength backscattered LIBS and LITE optical spectrum with atmospheric absorption effects on the returned lidar signal was investigated. An enhanced model of the atmospheric effects on emission-based laser-remote sensing was developed and found to be consistent and in agreement with our experimental results.
LITE measurements were …
Novel Roles For 185delag Mutant Brca1 In Ovarian Cancer Pathology, Rebecca J. Linger
Novel Roles For 185delag Mutant Brca1 In Ovarian Cancer Pathology, Rebecca J. Linger
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Familial history is the strongest risk factor for developing ovarian cancer (OC), and a significant contributor to breast cancer risk. Most hereditary breast cancers and OCs are associated with mutation of the tumor suppressor Breast and Ovarian Cancer Susceptibility Gene 1 (BRCA1). Studying risk-associated BRCA1 truncation mutations, such as the founder mutation 185delAG, may reveal signaling pathways important in OC etiology. Recent studies have shown novel BRCA1 mutant functions that may contribute to breast and OC initiation and progression independent of the loss of wtBRCA1. Previously, we have found that normal human ovarian surface epithelial (HOSE) cells expressing the 185delAG …
The Impact Of Deployment And Psychological Well-Being On Family Relationships: A Secondary Analysis Of Air Force Community Assessment Data, Keita Franklin
The Impact Of Deployment And Psychological Well-Being On Family Relationships: A Secondary Analysis Of Air Force Community Assessment Data, Keita Franklin
Theses and Dissertations
Airmen serving in the U.S. Air Force have made significant contributions to the overall war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Deployment, combat exposure, and subsequent combat-related mental health issues can have effects that extended beyond the airmen to the family. The primary aim of this study was to determine the path through which such effects occur within the context of risk and protective factors. The risk factors identified in this study were: deployment length and frequency and psychological symptomology. The construct of social support was also examined as an identified protective factor. This study examined the relationships between all of …

Energy Trade Brinkmanship Between The European Union And Russia, Alla Khalitova
Energy Trade Brinkmanship Between The European Union And Russia, Alla Khalitova
Undergraduate Economic Review
This paper proposes a brinkmanship game of unilateral deterrence to model the dynamics of energy trade between the European Union and Russia. Nuclear deterrence and crisis bargaining theory is extended to show the relationship between a spectrum of risk and trade dependency. Russia and the EU are mutually dependent upon continued natural gas trade, but Russia has an asymmetrical incentive to disrupt the status quo in order to extract a concession from the EU. It can do so by initiating a crisis that escalates toward a mutually disastrous gas shutoff through sequential bargaining. The risk of a gas shutoff is …

Web Page Design - Student-Community Collaborations, George Kontos
Web Page Design - Student-Community Collaborations, George Kontos
University College Business Division Faculty Publications
A collaborative project is described. Students in a web design class were asked to contact local businesses and help them create their web site (collection of related and interconnected web pages). Two phases of the project are described, planning and implementation. Planning defines the purpose and the target audience and also includes a sketch of the website's organization. The project is suitable for both traditional and online classes. Ideally, session participants should have some experience or interest in teaching web design but anyone who wants to know how to help students work collaboratively with the community is welcome to attend.

Effectiveness Of Compacted Fill And Rammed Aggregate Piers For Increasing Lateral Resistance Of Pile Foundations, Nathan A. Lemme
Effectiveness Of Compacted Fill And Rammed Aggregate Piers For Increasing Lateral Resistance Of Pile Foundations, Nathan A. Lemme
Theses and Dissertations
Compacted fill and rammed aggregate piers (RAPs) were separately installed adjacent to a 9-ft by 9-ft by 2.5-ft driven pile foundation founded in soft clay. The compacted fill used to laterally reinforce an area of 11 ft by 5 ft by 6 ft deep adjacent to the pile cap was clean concrete sand. The thirty-inch diameter RAPs were installed in three staggered rows to a depth of 12.5 ft below the ground surface adjacent to the pile cap to test the increase in lateral resistance afforded by their installation. The foundation was laterally loaded and load, displacement, and strain readings …

Cookie Dough 2.0: Digital Sketchbook, Sue Leo
Cookie Dough 2.0: Digital Sketchbook, Sue Leo
Theses
Cookie Dough 2.0 is a thesis documenting the graphic design branding journey of transforming cookie dough from simply a mixture of raw ingredients used in making chocolate chip cookies into a legitimate snack food. Graphic design was the critical factor in forming the brand character, packaging and marketing support materials. All concepts and final mechanicals were created digitally. Additionally, this thesis illustrates how the brand identity emerged through the many phases of product development.

Priorities For Privatization Of Kosovo's Electricity Distribution Network And Supply : [Presented May 17, 2010], Avdush Ibishi
Theses
Historically nationalized industries have had a low performance and generally speaking, the privatizations of these industries increased dramatically their efficiency and effectiveness. For these reasons, the Kosovo’s government has decided to privatize the Distribution System Operator (DSO) and Electricity Supply. This privatization is set to take place in the second part of 2010. There are several priorities that need to be considered for an effective transfer of ownership of Kosovo’s Distribution network from the government control to private investors. The top three priorities in this project are considered to be: • Legislation and regulation for distribution • Economic and electricity …
