Automated Classification Of Breast Pathology Using Local Measures Of Broadband Reflectance, Ashley M. Laughney, Venkataramanan Krishnaswamy, Pilar Beatriz Garcia-Allende, Olga M. Conde, Wendy A. Wells, Keith D. Paulsen, Brian W. Pogue Nov 2010

Automated Classification Of Breast Pathology Using Local Measures Of Broadband Reflectance, Ashley M. Laughney, Venkataramanan Krishnaswamy, Pilar Beatriz Garcia-Allende, Olga M. Conde, Wendy A. Wells, Keith D. Paulsen, Brian W. Pogue

Dartmouth Scholarship

We demonstrate that morphological features pertinent to a tissue's pathology may be ascertained from localized measures of broadband reflectance, with a mesoscopic resolution (100-μm lateral spot size) that permits scanning of an entire margin for residual disease. The technical aspects and optimization of a k-nearest neighbor classifier for automated diagnosis of pathologies are presented, and its efficacy is validated in 29 breast tissue specimens. When discriminating between benign and malignant pathologies, a sensitivity and specificity of 91 and 77% was achieved. Furthermore, detailed subtissue-type analysis was performed to consider how diverse pathologies influence scattering response and overall classification efficacy. The …

A Retrospective Analysis Of The Potential Environmental Stressors Responsible For The Decline Of The Natural Populations Of The Florida Apple Snail (Pomacea Paludosa) In The A.R.M. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Shannon Ladd

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the factors that contributed to the decline of Florida apple snail (Pomacea paludosa) populations in the A.R.M. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge with the goal of devising management recommendations to the Refuge regarding population management strategies. The factors examined that could have potentially contributed to population decline include the use of copper-based herbicides, insecticide application, the occurrence of drought, the use of other herbicides, the occurrence of fire, and non-avian predation. Annual Narrative documents produced by Refuge managers and staff members, dated from 1951 to 2007, were used to collect historical data for …

Contextualizing Obesity Among Latino Farmworkers: A Critical Analysis Of Structural And Cultural Processes Affecting Farmworker Health And Nutrition In Central Florida, Melissa H. Johnson

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Migrant and seasonal farmworkers play a critical role in the U.S. economy, producing food for the American public, while their suffering is often rendered invisible by their existence on the margins of society. The low wages associated with farm labor combined with the largely undocumented status of this population severely limits access to food, housing, and health care, resulting in poor health outcomes. Through the use of a critical anthropological approach, this research examines the social, cultural, political, and economic context of obesity among Latino migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Central Florida. Ethnographic research methods were used to explore perceptions …

Chronic Gastritis And Helicobacter Pylori: A Histopathological Study Of Gastric Mucosal Biopsies, Mohammad Yawar Yakoob, Akbar Shah Hussainy

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The aim of this study was to observe the histological features of chronic gastritis and associated effects due to Helicobacter pylori infection in 176 randomly selected antral biopsy specimens of chronic gastritis cases. The specimens were reviewed for the presence or absence of H.pylori. The activity (neutrophilic infiltration) of gastritis and the presence or absence of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) were also noted. Chi-square test (Pearson value) was used to analyze categorical variables. H.pylori was detected in 110 (62.5%) cases of chronic gastritis. There was a significant association between H.pylori infection and activity of chronic gastritis (p=0.002). Lymphoid aggregates were …

Guatemala Rising, One Girl At A Time: Findings From The 2009–2010 Abriendo Oportunidades Evaluation, Nicole Cushman

Adolescents and Young People

This report documents the process, key results, and lessons learned during the evaluation of the 2009–10 cycle of the Abriendo Oportunidades program. Abriendo is one of very few youth-serving programs in Guatemala that specifically targets one of the country’s largest and most vulnerable and underserved population segments; namely rural indigenous girls and young women ages 8–24. The program divides this critical demographic into age-appropriate cohorts and works with them to build their health, social, and economic assets as key strategies to improve health and education outcomes, improve gender equality and promote community development—thereby contributing to breaking the poverty cycle that …

Reliable Words; Third Person Pronouns In Indonesian News Reports, Dwi Noverini Djenar

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

This article examines uses of Indonesian third person singular pronouns ia and dia in news reports. It takes as its departure point the general account of the pronouns which specifies that ia can occur only in subject position, while dia can occur in subject or object position. The article shows that, although both pronouns can occur in subject position, they differ distributionally and functionally. Ia occurs almost three times as frequently as dia and predominates in subject position, while dia occurs mostly in non-subject position. Ia is primarily used to convey the notion that the referent is a reliable and …

Implementation Of Optimum Currency Area Criteria And Its Volatility: Case Study Asean-5+3, Dimas Bagus Wiranata Kusuma, Arief Dwi Putranto

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

This paper is aiming to elaborate the case of how exchange rate volatility (ERV), which is supposedly considered to form optimum currency area (OCA), can be reduced in order justify the feasibility of the OCA idea within ASEAN5 plus three. Interestingly, the results provide some evidences that the ASEAN5+3 are considered not really ready to form OCA. It corroborates the existing opinion that the different in economic structure and its policies over foreign environment are becoming some barriers and challenging area to synchronize in the following time. The positive impacts AS to ERV which are incurred in ASEAN5+3 economies indicate …

The Dynamics Of Manufacturing Industry And The Response Toward Business Cycle, Yati Kurniati, Yanfitri Yanfitri Oct 2010

The Dynamics Of Manufacturing Industry And The Response Toward Business Cycle, Yati Kurniati, Yanfitri Yanfitri

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

The role of the manufacturing industry in the economy has expanded significantly from 19 percent in 1990 to 26 percent in 2009, while its labor absorption only increased from 10 percent to 12.2 percent. The cycle of the manufacturing industry has been in line with the economic growth. This study explores the implications of the firm-level heterogeneity over the business cycle. By using the panel multinomial logit, it shows that firms with less capital and small size have greater probability to exit the industry during the boom/ bust period. Sensitivity of the company to changes in capital is greater during …

은행서비스에서 고객지향성, 금리민감도, 고객애호도의 구조에 관한 연구, Hong Youl Ha, Chang Bok Choi

Asia Marketing Journal

The notion of customer orientation is now importantly considered in the context of banking industries. Despite customer-oriented organizational cultures, there are few studies addressing the relationship between customer orientation and its outcomes. In particular, this study aims at testing the effect of customer orientation as a key marketing effort designed by a bank. This is because interest rate sensitivity is critical for evaluating banking services after raising the base rate. In so doing, first, this study investigates the relationships among customer orientation, interest rate sensitivity, and customer loyalty. Second, this paper examines how the moderating effects of both deposit interest …
