Results Of Morris Bridge Sink Pumping Test, Hillsborough County, Florida, Ronald J. Basso Jr., Carol Kraft

KIP Data Sets and Technical Reports

Morris Bridge Sink was evaluated as a potential Hillsborough River augmentation source by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) in April 2009 by pumping approximately six cubic feet per second (cfs) or four million gallons per day (mgd) for 30 days. The pumping test was conducted to determine if four mgd could be sustainably developed from Morris Bridge Sink during the spring dry season to assist the City of Tampa in meeting the minimum low flow of 24 cfs established for the lower Hillsborough River. The Morris Bridge Sink project, along with water from Sulphur Spring, the Tampa Bypass …

Getting On The "E" List: E-Mail Use In A Community Of Service Provider, Craig R. Scott, Laurie K. Lewis, Scott C. D'Urso

College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications

This case examines how a community of organizations providing service to people experiencing homelessness made use of an electronic mail list. Current economic conditions have encouraged organizations in various sectors—including nonprofits—that might normally compete for scarce resources to collaborate with one another to increase their chances of survival. One set of tools likely to be of value in such relationships includes various online discussion technologies. An examination of this community’s email list use over a three-year period suggests a somewhat complex picture regarding technology use. More specifically, some issues both constrain and enable use. Additionally, seemingly basic and minimal uses …

Jump In With Both Feet, The Waters Get Warmer Over Time!, Catherine Tieva

Book Chapters

First Paragraph:

Nursing research, evidence-based practice, literature reviews, meta-analysis, correlations, control and experimental groups, and validity. Terms like these used to make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. My palms would break into a sweat, and if ever I felt inadequate as a nurse, it was in the area of nursing research. I would listen to advanced practice nurses, master's-prepared nurses and doctorate-prepared nurses discussing research and feel totally inadequate. It didn't matter that at the time, I had 16 years of experience or that I was currently working as a nurse manager. Nursing research …

State-Level Performance Metrics, Eric Davis Jan 2010

State-Level Performance Metrics, Eric Davis

Honors Capstones

In this paper, I examine performance measurements' effects on state governments' transparency and accountability. The paper begins by defining transparency and accountability before defining three prior methods of analyzing local governments; Citizen-Centric Reporting, State-Level Performance Metrics, and Comprehensive Area Assessment. Performance metrics, both financial and nonfinancial, discussed in the previous analysis are then applied through a statistical analysis called Data Envelopment Analysis; to evaluate each State compared to the others. Data used during the analysis was collected from Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports and literature reporting on each State's demographics. It was found that in the areas of Health Care, Public …

The Importance Of Early Vocalizations In Infants Born With Cleft Palate, Rachel Stade Jan 2010

The Importance Of Early Vocalizations In Infants Born With Cleft Palate, Rachel Stade

Honors Capstones

Research has proven that early vocalizations are a crucial component of normal language development in children. While there is a considerable body of research about the significance of early vocalizations in normal language acquisition, very little research exists about the presence and importance of early vocalizations in infants born with cleft palate. This paper provides a review of studies that focus on early vocalizations in normally developing children. This is followed by a review of the research comparing the development of early vocalizations in children with cognitive impairments or hearing impairments. Finally, research that studied early vocalization development in infants …

Keeping The Commitment: Why California Should Maintain Consideration Of The Commitment Offense In Determining Parole For Life Inmates, Kathleen Noone Jan 2010

Keeping The Commitment: Why California Should Maintain Consideration Of The Commitment Offense In Determining Parole For Life Inmates, Kathleen Noone

UC Law Constitutional Quarterly

The California prison system is currently in federal receivership because of overcrowding and failing to provide prisoners with sufficient medical care. The prison system is a mess, and the miniscule number of life inmates receiving parole each year is disheartening. In the California Supreme Court case In re Lawrence, the court took a step towards increasing the rate of parole for line inmates when it clarified that an inmate cannot be denied parole based solely on the severity of his or her commitment offense. Of course, a future court might go a step further and hold that the commitment offense …

Virtual Child Pornography, Pandering, And The First Amendment: How Developments In Technology And Shifting First Amendment Jurisprudence Have Affected The Criminalization Of Child Pornography, Benjamin A. Mains Jan 2010

Virtual Child Pornography, Pandering, And The First Amendment: How Developments In Technology And Shifting First Amendment Jurisprudence Have Affected The Criminalization Of Child Pornography, Benjamin A. Mains

UC Law Constitutional Quarterly

Though the depiction of minors engaged in obscene or sexual acts has been heavily criminalized, modern technology and the Internet have allowed for the creation of virtual child pornography-sexually explicit images that appear to depict minors but are produced without the involvement of any real children. Though children are not directly harmed by the production of this type of material, Congress has found that virtual child pornography perpetuates a market for pornography involving actual children and thereby causes what I refer to as a substantial indirect harm to society. Prosecution for possession and distribution of actual child pornographic material has …

The Effects Of Teacher Ideology On Student Performance As Related To Poverty And Ethnicity, Jessica Webb Jan 2010

The Effects Of Teacher Ideology On Student Performance As Related To Poverty And Ethnicity, Jessica Webb

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study was conducted to explore the impact of teacher ideology on student performance. A definition of teacher ideology was drawn from the pupil control ideology, PCI, created by Willower, Eidell and Hoy (1967). Research concerned with teacher ideology has suggested that there is a definite difference between the custodial ideology and the humanistic ideology (Gaffney, 1997). In particular, the custodial teacher views rules and regulations as a priority, while the humanistic teacher views the student as the priority. Factors which influenced student achievement, such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and behavior in relation to how teacher ideology affects student performance …
