Terminology Enhanced Ehr: Integration Of Archetypes And Terminology, An Implementation Experience, Sheng Yu, Damon Berry

Reports

The integration of terminology and EHR information models is an important step in the journey towards semantic interoperability. Archetypes and two-level models for EHRs provide a mechanism that not only applies constraints on clinical content but also ensures effective terminology binding. However the lack of a standardised mechanism to bind terminology to the EHR and the difficulty of systematically coding clinical content, has led to a number of possible implementation choices. This study presents a review of the problems that may occur when working with modern terminology systems and discusses some related state of art technologies. The paper aims to …

The Relation Of The Expression Of Offense To Forgiving, Laura Grace Hall Nov 2010

The Relation Of The Expression Of Offense To Forgiving, Laura Grace Hall

Theses and Dissertations

Forgiveness is an essential component of relationship growth and healing, with academic, professional, and public interest in research and writing on the topic continually increasing over the past two decades. Indignation is endemic to interpersonal offense, and a key component of the forgiveness process; few, however, have written about the potentially facilitative role that it may play. Disparate conceptualizations of indignation among researchers and therapists may impede therapeutic progress, individually and interpersonally. This study presents a review of social science literature on forgiveness and a new model of the emotional response to offense that positions corrective, protective indignation on a …

Self-Protecting Bactericidal Titanium Alloy Surface Formed By Covalent Bonding Of Daptomycin Bisphosphonates., Chang-Po Chen, Eric Wickstrom Nov 2010

Self-Protecting Bactericidal Titanium Alloy Surface Formed By Covalent Bonding Of Daptomycin Bisphosphonates., Chang-Po Chen, Eric Wickstrom

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty Papers

Infections are a devastating complication of titanium alloy orthopedic implants. Current therapy includes antibiotic-impregnated bone cement and antibiotic-containing coatings. We hypothesized that daptomycin, a Gram-positive peptide antibiotic, could prevent bacterial colonization on titanium alloy surfaces if covalently bonded via a flexible, hydrophilic spacer. We designed and synthesized a series of daptomycin conjugates for bonding to the surface of 1.0 cm² Ti6Al4V foils through bisphosphonate groups, reaching a maximum yield of 180 pmol/cm². Daptomycin-bonded foils killed 53 ± 5% of a high challenge dose of 3 × 10⁵ cfu Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938): Early Female Nudes In Landscapes, Kathryn Rogge Nov 2010

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938): Early Female Nudes In Landscapes, Kathryn Rogge

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines how Ernst Ludwig Kirchner reconceived the female nude within the two contexts of Expressionism and the German nudist movement. In particular, it looks to Kirchner’s early paintings, executed between 1909 and 1914, of female nudes in landscape settings to determine how Kirchner operated within and departed from the conventions of the female nude. This thesis challenges the feminist critique of Expressionist painting and Kirchner’s female nudes. It also examines how Kirchner’s female nudes in landscapes are complicated by the early twentieth-century development of German nudism. While these paintings are often categorized as bathers following nineteenth-century French precedent, …
