Concurrent Validation Of The Dash And The Quickdash In Comparison To Neck-Specific Scales In Patients With Neck Pain, Saurabh Mehta, Joy Macdermid, Lisa Carlesso, Colleen Mcphee

Physical Therapy Faculty Research

Study Design. Concurrent validity study.

Objective. To examine the validity of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) and the QuickDASH in patients with neck pain in comparison with the Neck Disability Index (NDI), the Cervical Spine Outcome Questionnaire (CSOQ), and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain. To examine the agreement between the DASH and the QuickDASH and assess whether the QuickDASH can be used instead of full DASH in patients with neck pain.

Summary of Background Data. NDI is commonly used for measuring neck-related disability in patients with neck pain; but it does not offer to assess …

Community-Based Intervention Packages For Reducing Maternal And Neonatal Morbidity And Mortality And Improving Neonatal Outcomes, Zohra S. Lassi, Batool A. Haider, Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta

Woman and Child Health

Background: While maternal, infant and under-five child mortality rates in developing countries have declined significantly in the past two to three decades, newborn mortality rates have reduced much more slowly. While it is recognised that almost half of the newborn deaths can be prevented by scaling up evidence-based available interventions such as tetanus toxoid immunisation to mothers, clean and skilled care at delivery, newborn resuscitation, exclusive breastfeeding, clean umbilical cord care, management of infections in newborns, many require facility based and outreach services. It has also been stated that a significant proportion of these mortalities and morbidities could also be …

Motivating Faculty To Integrate The Library: We Can Work Together!, Judith Arnold, Veronica E. Bielat Nov 2010

Motivating Faculty To Integrate The Library: We Can Work Together!, Judith Arnold, Veronica E. Bielat

Library Scholarly Publications

Faculty may be unaware of how many library resources are available to support their course assignments. Additionally their assignments may not be designed in a way that makes the best use of library resources. “Shopping list” assignments may cause students to spend too much time searching and not enough time engaging with the material and developing higher order thinking skills.

Two Wayne State Librarians share their experiences in developing a workshop for faculty to help them integrate the library in a meaningful way, to support student learning and development of information literacy skills. Using persistent linking to embed articles, book …

Sex Partnerships, Health, And Social Risks Of Young Men Leaving Jail: Analyzing Data From A Randomized Controlled Trial, Megha Ramaswamy, Nicholas Freudenberg Nov 2010

Sex Partnerships, Health, And Social Risks Of Young Men Leaving Jail: Analyzing Data From A Randomized Controlled Trial, Megha Ramaswamy, Nicholas Freudenberg

Publications and Research

Background Young men involved in the criminal justice system face disproportionately high rates of sexual risk behavior, drug, use, and violence. Little is known about how their involvement in sex partnerships might mitigate their unique health and social risks. This study explores whether sex partner experience protects against harmful sexual behaviors, drug problems, violence, and recidivism in 16-18-year-old Black and Latino men leaving a US jail. Methods Data were drawn from the Returning Educated African-American and Latino Men to Enriched Neighborhoods (REAL MEN) study conducted between 2003-2007, which tracked 552 adolescents during their time in a New York City jail …

Voltage Stability Impact Of Grid-Tied Photovoltaic Systems Utilizing Dynamic Reactive Power Control, Adedamola Omole Nov 2010

Voltage Stability Impact Of Grid-Tied Photovoltaic Systems Utilizing Dynamic Reactive Power Control, Adedamola Omole

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Photovoltaic (PV) DGs can be optimized to provide reactive power support to the grid,

although this feature is currently rarely utilized as most DG systems are designed to

operate with unity power factor and supply real power only to the grid. In this work, the

voltage stability of a power system embedded with PV DG is examined in the context of

the high reactive power requirement after a voltage sag or fault. A real-time dynamic

multi-function power controller that enables renewable source PV DGs to provide the

reactive power support necessary to maintain the voltage stability of the microgrid, and …
