The 1000 Genomes Project aims to provide a deep characterization of human genome sequence variation as a foundation for investigating the relationship between genotype and phenotype. Here we present results of the pilot phase of the project, designed to develop and compare different strategies for genome-wide sequencing with high-throughput platforms. We undertook three projects: low-coverage whole-genome sequencing of 179 individuals from four populations; high-coverage sequencing of two mother-father-child trios; and exon-targeted sequencing of 697 individuals from seven populations. We describe the location, allele frequency and local haplotype structure of approximately 15 million single nucleotide polymorphisms, 1 million short insertions and …

Mutual Elements And Substrate Effect Analysis On Patch Antenna Arrays, Matthew J. Wallace
Mutual Elements And Substrate Effect Analysis On Patch Antenna Arrays, Matthew J. Wallace
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There have been many different technology advancements with the invention of solid state electronics, leading to the digital era which has changed the way users employ electronic circuits. Antennas are no different; however, they are still analog devices. With the advancements in technology, antennas are being fabricated on much higher frequencies and with greater bandwidths, all while trying to keep size and weight to a minimum. Centimeter and millimeter wave technologies have evolved for many different radio frequency (RF) applications. Microstrip patch antennas have been developed, as wire and tubular antenna elements are difficult to fabricate with the tolerances required …

Identification And Optimization Of Classifier Genes From Multi-Class Earthworm Microarray Dataset, Ying Li, Nan Wang, Chaoyang Zhang, Ping Gong

Monitoring, assessment and prediction of environmental risks that chemicals pose demand rapid and accurate diagnostic assays. A variety of toxicological effects have been associated with explosive compounds TNT and RDX. One important goal of microarray experiments is to discover novel biomarkers for toxicity evaluation. We have developed an earthworm microarray containing 15,208 unique oligo probes and have used it to profile gene expression in 248 earthworms exposed to TNT, RDX or neither. We assembled a new machine learning pipeline consisting of several well-established feature filtering/selection and classification techniques to analyze the 248-array dataset in order to construct classifier models that …

Ernest Hemingway’S Mistresses And Wives: Exploring Their Impact On His Female Characters, Stephen E. Henrichon
Ernest Hemingway’S Mistresses And Wives: Exploring Their Impact On His Female Characters, Stephen E. Henrichon
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
“Conflicted” succinctly describes Ernest Hemingway. He had a strong desire to make his parents proud of him but this was in constant conflict with his need to tell a story, warts and all. Of particular importance is his relationship with his mother and the crippling effect it has on his relationships with women. Hemingway’s life becomes a series of dysfunctional relationships that fail to meet his needs, leaving him perpetually searching for the right woman. Kert posits that Hemingway’s contempt for women is related to his inability to make the transition from lover to husband, fueled by Hemingway’s belief that …

A Fish Out Of Water: Gill And Skin Remodeling Promotes Osmo- And Ionoregulation In The Mangrove Killifish Kryptolebias Marmoratus, Danielle M. Leblanc, Chris M. Wood, Douglas S. Fudge, Patricia A. Wright
Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research
The euryhaline, amphibious mangrove killifish Kryptolebias marmoratus is known to survive weeks out of water in moist environments. We tested the hypothesis that the skin is a site of osmo- and ionoregulation in K. marmoratus. We predicted that under terrestrial conditions, gill and skin remodeling would result in an enhanced role for skin and a diminished role for the gills in osmo- and ionoregulation. Fish were exposed to water—either freshwater (FW, 1‰) or hypersaline water (saltwater [SW], 45‰)—or air over a moist surface of FW or SW for 9 d and then recovered in water. When fish were emersed …
A Single-Chip Ultra-Wideband Based Wireless Sensor Network Node, Nathan R. Schemm
A Single-Chip Ultra-Wideband Based Wireless Sensor Network Node, Nathan R. Schemm
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This dissertation presents the design of a next-generation wireless sensor network node. The node incorporates many new and innovative technologies such as an ultra-wideband radio which allows very low-energy communication, a low-power radiation detection front end, and an efficient implementation of dynamic voltage scaling which improves the energy efficiency of the integrated processor. The complete design is integrated on a single chip for maximum power savings and minimal size.
The ultra-wideband transceiver includes many novel techniques to produce a receiver with low power consumption and fast and accurate packet acquisition and reception. These include the use of a standard symmetric …

Tensorial Reconstruction At The Integrand Level, G. Heinrich, Giovanni Ossola, T. Reiter, F. Tramontano
Tensorial Reconstruction At The Integrand Level, G. Heinrich, Giovanni Ossola, T. Reiter, F. Tramontano
Publications and Research
We present a new approach to the reduction of one-loop amplitudes obtained by reconstructing the tensorial expression of the scattering amplitudes. The reconstruction is performed at the integrand level by means of a sampling in the integration momentum. There are several interesting applications of this novel method within existing techniques for the reduction of one-loop multi-leg amplitudes: to deal with numerically unstable points, such as in the vicinity of a vanishing Gram determinant; to allow for a sampling of the numerator function based on real values of the integration momentum; to optimize the numerical reduction in the case of long …
