Hogar Iglesia: Implementacion De Un Programa Para El Crecimiento De La Iglesia Adventista Hispana De Alexandria, Virginia, Jose Daniel Esposito Forciniti
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. Alexandria church has not successfully executed a long-term program for small groups that achieved the involvement of members in missionary work. Throughout the years, it has not been able to establish a fixed growth rate for such involvement, which in turn should transform into a new lifestyle of testimony. When this strategy for small groups was implemented, there were significant results, however the program’s leaders became frustrated and skeptical after not being provided with a set plan for follow-up, solidification, and continuity. The purpose of this investigation was focused on developing and implementing a program for church growth, based …
A Seminar To Improve Interpersonal Relations Among Members Of The Waipahu Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Eliezer A. Graterol
A Seminar To Improve Interpersonal Relations Among Members Of The Waipahu Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Eliezer A. Graterol
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. The members of the Waipahu Seventh-day Adventist Church had a limited understanding about the connection that exists between good relationships and evangelism, due to lack of education or training. The church members needed to strengthen their interpersonal relationships and grow in their understanding that Christianity is not just a series of doctrines and beliefs. The purpose of this project was to develop a seminar to educate members about the importance of having good relationships with one another.
Method. Three questionnaires were developed to help the participants to reflect on their current level of relationship with one another. These questionnaires …
Developing A Cross-Generational Life-Transforming Worship Service: An Approach To Involving And Empowering Youth And Young Adults At The San Diego Filipino-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Demetrio F. Robles
Doctor of Ministry Projects
The Problem. The worship services at San Diego Fil-Am were traditionally led by the older generations where most of the time the younger generations felt neglected to and left out in the planning and from experiencing a life-transforming worship. For some time, the younger generations sought opportunities to be involved in worship but the traditional practice of worship did not favor it. Advocates for children and young people in the congregation urge separate worship services for the youth and young adults but this is strongly opposed by the majority of leaders and senior members, many of whom hold leadership positions …
A Paradigm For Cell Church Ministry In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In South Korea, Won Moo Song
A Paradigm For Cell Church Ministry In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In South Korea, Won Moo Song
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Small group ministry, known as the cell church, was thought to be the best response to the slow growth of membership in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in South Korea. However, the attempt to develop effective cell church ministries has failed to attract new, or even current, members. Yet, there are three non-SDA churches that have had success in setting up model cell churches. The purpose of this study is to explore possible reasons for the failure, examine the successful programs, and identify those steps the Korean Adventist church could adopt in order to establish a positive paradigm for …
Development And Implementation Of A Seminar To Combat The Effects Of Pornography On Marriage In The Madison Community Sda Church And Strategies For Prevention, Abraham L. Swamidass
Development And Implementation Of A Seminar To Combat The Effects Of Pornography On Marriage In The Madison Community Sda Church And Strategies For Prevention, Abraham L. Swamidass
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. Recent statistics in the nation, research among Christian couples, and my own counseling experience with couples, “particularly men” who were addicted to pornography, revealed that pornography is one of the leading causes of divorce and family breakdown today. Thus, it needed to be addressed at the Madison Community Church in Madison, Wisconsin. The purpose of this research project was to develop, implement and evaluate a seminar on The Effects of Pornography on Marriage and Strategies for Prevention. The intent of the seminar was to help couples, and “particularly men,” to understand the harmful effects of pornography on marriage, and …
Dual Allegiance And The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Africa: How To Address The Issue In An Open Dialogue In The West Central Africa Division, Gilbert Wari
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Africa in general, and the West-Central Africa Division in particular, has been facing the issue of dual allegiance or “split level Christianity.”
Method
The Bible, Spirit of Prophecy, and other related books and articles concerning the issue of dual allegiance were studied, then theological and religious-cultural data were analyzed, a strategy was put in place by using a Logframe Matrix and a Gantt Chart so as to address and deal with the issue from a biblical point of view.
Results
A spirit of dedication and commitment started manifesting itself among pastors, administrators, and church …
Stewardship Patterns In The North Katanga Field Of East Congo: Implications For Leadership, Mutombe N'Gili-Muloko
Stewardship Patterns In The North Katanga Field Of East Congo: Implications For Leadership, Mutombe N'Gili-Muloko
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
The General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (GC) has reduced funding in terms of the appropriation to the lower entities. The GC has encouraged all organizations to reduce debts and manage their income more effectively. This project was formulated to determine to what extent the North Katanga Field (NKF) can increase its tithes and manage its income adequately. From 1999 to 2003 tithe decreased in the NKF when at the same time it increased in the North-East Congo (NECAT) areas and these regions were compared.
Method
Substantial written materials from specialists were used to find strategies for tithe …
Servant Leadership: A Strategy To Retain Human Capital In Malawi Union Health Institutions, Baxter Dickson Chilunga
Servant Leadership: A Strategy To Retain Human Capital In Malawi Union Health Institutions, Baxter Dickson Chilunga
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Statistically the Malawi Union and its institutions are showing a negative labour turnover for the past five years. The problem is very pronounced in the health institutions where there were 104 employees lost at Blantyre Adventist Hospital and 106 employees at Malamulo Hospital. This is a drop from 645 to 435.
Method
I identified the supervisors, heads of institutions and health employees in Blantyre Adventist Hospital and Malamulo Hospital, both unmarried and married employees. Data was collected from these employees concerning human capital turnover from 2004 to 2009 through questionnaires, workshops and interviews. The data concerning worker retention was …
Katrina, Federalism, And Military Law Enforcement: A New Exception To The Posse Comitatus Act, Sean Mcgrane
Katrina, Federalism, And Military Law Enforcement: A New Exception To The Posse Comitatus Act, Sean Mcgrane
Michigan Law Review
In the days following Hurricane Katrina, as lawlessness and violence spread throughout New Orleans, the White House considered invoking the Insurrection Act so that members of the U.S. military could legally perform law enforcement functions inside the flooded city. This Note contends that the White House's decision not to invoke the Act was substantially driven by federalism concerns-in particular, concerns about intruding on Louisiana's sovereignty. But, this Note further contends, in focusing so heavily on these state sovereignty concerns, the White House largely ignored the other side of the 'federalism coin "-namely, enabling the federal government to act where national …
Maximizing Broiler Performance And Health Through Feed., Kelley Grace Stacey Lilly
Maximizing Broiler Performance And Health Through Feed., Kelley Grace Stacey Lilly
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Feed represents approximately 70% of the costs required to produce broiler chickens. A concern in commercial poultry production is pellet quality and the cost required to make pellets of high quality. However, improvements in broiler performance attributed to improved pellet quality may help to alleviate these costs. In Chapter 2, two experiments were conducted at West Virginia University: Experiment 1) pellets were manufactured by utilizing varying processing techniques in order to create five dietary treatments, unique in feed form and Experiment 2) was conducted to explain variations in feed form on broilers of varying sex categories with consistent nutrient availability …
An Effective Chemical Deterrent For Invasive Cuban Treefrogs, Steve A. Johnson, Monica E. Mcgarrity, Christina L. Staudhammer
An Effective Chemical Deterrent For Invasive Cuban Treefrogs, Steve A. Johnson, Monica E. Mcgarrity, Christina L. Staudhammer
Human–Wildlife Interactions
Introduced vertebrates have a variety of impacts on ecosystems and economies, and many cause problems for humans. One such problem is the loss of electrical power when invasive animals cause short circuits in power-transmission equipment. Cuban treefrogs (Osteopilus septentrionalis) are known to cause power outages and are a nuisance to humans when they invade homes and defecate on doors and windows. These large, slightly toxic treefrogs were introduced into Florida from the Caribbean. They now occur throughout the peninsula of Florida and are spreading to other states in the Southeast. We used refuge choice experiments to test the …
Selection Of Pathways To Foraging Sites In Crop Fields By Flightless Canada Geese, Troy M. Radtke, Charles D. Dieter
Selection Of Pathways To Foraging Sites In Crop Fields By Flightless Canada Geese, Troy M. Radtke, Charles D. Dieter
Human–Wildlife Interactions
Geese, especially when they are flightless, can cause significant crop damage. We determined the effects of shoreline characteristics on foraging site selection by flightless Canada geese (Branta canadensis) in South Dakota. Distance from edge of crop field to wetland and visual obstruction by vegetation were important determinants of pathway selection by geese. Geese used crop fields for foraging that were closer to water than unused fields. Geese accessed those fields along pathways with less visual obstruction by vegetation than unused pathways. Our data suggest that this distance of crops to wetlands is the most important shoreline characteristic determining …

Movements, Habitat Selection, Associations, And Survival Of Giant Canada Goose Broods In Central Tennessee, Eric M. Dunton, Daniel L. Combs
Human–Wildlife Interactions
The brood-rearing period in giant Canada geese (Branta canadensis maxima) is one of the least-studied areas of goose ecology. We monitored 32 broods in Putnam County, Tennessee, from the time of hatching through fledging (i.e., when the goslings gained the ability to fly) and from fledging until broods left the brood-rearing areas during the spring and summer of 2003. We conducted a fixed-kernel, home-range analysis for each brood using the Animal Movement Extension in ArcView® 3.3 GIS (ESRI, Redlands, Calif.) software and calculated 95% and 50% utilization distributions (UD) for each brood. We classified 25 broods as sedentary …
Estimating Annual Vertebrate Mortality On Roads At Saguaro National Park, Arizona, Kenneth Gerow, Natasha C. Kline, Don E. Swann, Marin Pokorny
Estimating Annual Vertebrate Mortality On Roads At Saguaro National Park, Arizona, Kenneth Gerow, Natasha C. Kline, Don E. Swann, Marin Pokorny
Human–Wildlife Interactions
Road-killed vertebrates are a conspicuous effect of roads on animals, particularly in natural preserves where wildlife is protected. Knowledge of the number of vertebrates killed by vehicles in a national park or other natural area is important for managers, but these numbers are difficult to estimate because such mortality patterns vary greatly in space and time and by taxonomic group. Additionally, animals killed by vehicles may be difficult to observe, particularly during driving surveys, and carcasses may not persist between surveys due to scavenging and other factors. We modified an estimator previously developed for determining bird mortality at wind turbines …

Crossroads And Signposts: The Ada Amendments Act Of 2008, Jeannette Cox
Crossroads And Signposts: The Ada Amendments Act Of 2008, Jeannette Cox
School of Law Faculty Publications
Although the apparent purpose of the 2008 amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is solely to broaden the ADA 's protected class, the manner in which the amendments achieve this purpose erodes the statute's explicit textual support for understanding persons with disabilities as a politically subordinated minority. The amendments also strengthen the statutory link between the biological severity of a person's disability and that person's right to sue for ADA accommodations. Accordingly, for some courts, the amendments will reinforce the perception that the ADA differs from traditional civil rights law.
Federal courts' understanding of the ADA 's relationship …

“‘Twas Three Years After Twombly And All Through The Bar, Not A Plaintiff Was Troubled From Near Or From Far”—The Unremarkable Effect Of The U.S. Supreme Court’S Re-Expressed Pleading Standard In Bell Atlantic Corp. V. Twombly, Daniel R. Karon
University of San Francisco Law Review
This Article describes FRCP Rule 8’s origin and explains its intended application; chronicles Rule 8’s history of restriction and misapplication, and the Supreme Court’s contribution to ensuring Rule 8’s treatment in a manner consistent with its drafters’ intentions; then examines Twombly, focusing on the Court’s consideration, expression, and application of Rule 8’s pleading standard in more modern circumstances; and explains how the Twombly Court reaffirmed the intentions of Rule 8’s drafters and re-expressed Rule 8’s liberal pleading requirements
Eliminationist Discourse In A Conflicted Society: Lessons For America From Africa?, Phyllis E. Bernard
Eliminationist Discourse In A Conflicted Society: Lessons For America From Africa?, Phyllis E. Bernard
Marquette Law Review
For generations, Western society has taken pride in welcoming all types of discourse in the press, radio, or television; the livelier, the better. Outrage often awaits individuals or institutions suggesting that some passionate rhetoric in the public square invites danger that outweighs the theoretical value of free expression. This Article proceeds from the assumption that—from a less lofty, more grassroots perspective—modern, organized, formal, one-time venues for extremist political speech do not present the most potent threat to physical safety and a stable democracy. The greater danger emanates from pervasive right-wing extremist themes on radio, television, and some online news sources …

Danish Refugee Council 2010 Annual Report, Drc
Global CWD Repository
In the international area, we help displaced people with identification papers and papers documenting their right of ownership, etc. In this way, DRC advocates the cause of displaced people applying a rights-based approach.
Advocacy can be complicated and may affect our programme activities. We live in a globalised world, and therefore, what we say in Denmark will be heard far and wide. A couple of years ago, DRC was critical of the forced return of Tamil asylum seekers at a time when the war was at its highest, which was why we were concerned about the fate of the Tamil …
