This article analyzes the roles of Shan royal ladies in private and public spheres in three life narratives: Twilight over Burma: My Life as a Princess by Inge Sargent (1994); The White Umbrella by Patricia Elliott (1999); and My Vanished World: The True Story of Shan Princess by Nel Adams (2000). Shan royal ladies were actively involved in both private and public spheres. They were creative in catering. They had opportunities to become family leaders, and to help compromise conflicts. Antibiotics have been used to treat human disease and to be given to livestock for disease prevention and growth promotion. Because of their large amount and widely uses, the antibiotics were found in various phases of the environment such as manure, sewage, sludge, surface water, soil, livestock and aquatic animal. The antibiotic could enter the environment and degrade in some extents depending on its physicochemical properties and the environmental conditions. Although. its existing in small amount could not cause any lethal effect but previous studies have shown the resistance effect might occur and disturb the microbial ecosystem.

Solidification Of Oyster Shells Used As Cadmium Ion Removal Material With Portland Cement, Chayapat Tabtong

This research investigated the soiJdification of oyster shell (Crassostre commercialis) used as Cd2+ removal material with Portland cement by varying the oyster shell/Portland cement ratio and curing time. Leachability of Cd2+ was determined with Toxicity Characteristics Leaching Procedure (TCLP). The expel trnental result demonstrated that the optimum condition for oyster shell/Portland cement ratio was 4. After curing time for 7 d, densities of solidified oyster shell (OS-A) as well as bu rn ed oyster shell (OS-B) were 1.87 and 2.15 ton m-3, respectively. The obJective of this work was to study the adsorption ability of various Pb+ ion concentrations by oyster shell (Crassostre commercialis) Oyster shells were prepared by 2 different methods. For the first method, oyster shell was washed with distilled water, dried in the oven at 105°C then, crushed and sieved to particle size of 75-106 \inline \mum in diameter. Although seventeenth-century New England has been one of the most heavily studied subjects in American history, women's lived experience of Puritan church membership has been incompletely understood. Histories of New England's Puritan churches have often assumed membership to have had universal implications, and studies of New England women either have focused on dissenting women or have neglected women's religious lives altogether despite the centrality of religion to the structure of New England society and culture.

Several recent events harmonically converged into the topic for this article. The first was a posting on Georgetown Law’s environmental law professors’ listserv by Professor John Bonine, which raised a number of questions about whether and how standing doctrine might be rethought in light of the Supreme Court’s opinion in Massachusetts v. EPA. That opinion relaxed the states’ standing burden because of the unique sovereign interests, finding that federalism bargaining earned states “special solicitude” when it came to meeting the Court’s standing requirements.

Covenants and ground leases have been, and continue to be, used to create shared spaces that are fundamentally, and often invidiously, exclusive. Famously made a dead letter in the case of Shelley v. Kraemer, covenants banning resale to nonwhite households put the force of law behind the segregated birth of America’s suburbs. Today, gated residential communities and shopping malls assure a degree of class exclusivity through covenants and commercial ground leases, respectively. These same legal mechanisms, however, are now deployed to assure long-term inclusion as well.

During the past forty years, hundreds of federal and state statutes, administrative regulations, and international treaties have established multiple approaches to addressing pollution of the air, water, and land. The opinions of Justice Thomas reflect a jurisprudence that is uniquely his own. His well-known commitment to textualism and originalism combines with a weak commitment to stare decisis on constitutional questions. This often puts Thomas at odds with Justice Scalia and other Justices who are far more willing to defer to precedents with which they disagree. The most distinctive aspect of Thomas's jurisprudence, however, involves cases of particular concern to black Americans. In these cases, his originalism and textualism are powerfully supplemented by another -ism—namely, "black nationalism."

Modern scholars regularly assert that Islamic law contains privacy protections similar to those of the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Two Quranic verses in particular - one that commands Muslims not to enter homes without permission, and one that commands them not to 'spy' - are held up, along with reports from the Traditions (Sunna) that repeat and embellish on these commands, as establishing rules that forbid warrantless searches and seizures by state actors and require the exclusion of evidence obtained in violation of these rules. Dworkin argues that commitment to interpretive fidelity requires that we recognize that the Constitution embodies abstract moral principles rather than laying down a particular historical conception, and that interpreting those principles requires fresh judgments of political theory about how they are best understood. This interpretive strategy — Dworkin's ‘moral reading’ of the Constitution — stands in opposition to the narrow originalists' claim that interpretive fidelity requires following the rules laid down by the framers of the Constitution. Cervical cancer is a disease of social inequality. Women with access to effective screening and treatment rarely die from cervical cancer. The burden of cervical cancer mortality falls most heavily among the poorer women of the world. Cervical cancer starkly illustrates global inequality across race, sex and class. Cervical cancer disproportionately kills poor women of color. The HPV vaccine is a triumph of science.

A few years ago, at a conference on religion in the public schools sponsored by the First Amendment Law Review at the University of North Carolina, I argued that although I thought Judge Jones' opinion in Kitzmiller' was mostly correct, the judge erred by deciding that Intelligent Design (ID) is not science. In the 1988 film The Accused, a young woman named Sarah Tobias is gang raped on a pinball machine by three men while a crowded bar watches. The rapists cut a deal with the prosecutor. Sarah's outrage at the deal convinces the assistant district attorney to prosecute members of the crowd that cheered on and encouraged the rape. This film shows how Sarah Tobias, a woman with little means and less experience, intuits that according to the law rape victims are incredible witnesses to their own victimization. What happens when other community members fail to keep this potentially harmful information confidential? To bring the United States in line with prevailing human rights standards, its National HIV/AIDS Strategy will need to explicitly commit to a human rights framework when developing programmes and policies that serve the unaddressed needs of women. This paper focuses on two aspects of the institutionalized mistreatment of people with HIV: 1) the criminalization of their consensual sexual conduct; and 2) the elimination of informed and documented consensual participation in their diagnosis through reliance on mandatory and opt-out testing policies. How could such industries as software, semiconductors, and computers have been so innovative despite historically weak patent protection? We argue that if innovation is both sequential and complementary--as it certainly has been in those industries--competition can increase firms' future profits thus offsetting short-term dissipation of rents. A simple model also shows that in such a dynamic industry, patent protection may reduce overall innovation and social welfare. The natural experiment that occurred when patent protection was extended to software in the 1980?s provides a test of this model.
