Oscillation Of Higher-Order Nonlinear Delay Differential Equations With Oscillatory Coefficients, Başak Karpuz, Özkan Öcalan, Mustafa Kemal Yildiz Jan 2009

Oscillation Of Higher-Order Nonlinear Delay Differential Equations With Oscillatory Coefficients, Başak Karpuz, Özkan Öcalan, Mustafa Kemal Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

A criterion is established on the bounded solutions of type higher-order nonlinear neutral differential equations of type oscillatory or tending to zero at infinity [a(t) [x(t)+r(t)x(\kappa(t))]^{(n-1]' +p(t)F(x(\tau(t)))+q(t)G(x(\sigma(t)))= \phi(t), where t\geq t_0, n\geq 2, a,p are positive, r,q,\phi are allowed to alternate in sign infinitely many times, F,G are continuous functions, and \kappa,\tau,\sigma are strictly increasing unbounded continuous delay functions.

Some Properties Of Gr-Multiplication Ideals, Hani Khashan Jan 2009

Some Properties Of Gr-Multiplication Ideals, Hani Khashan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we study some of the properties of gr-multiplication ideals in a graded ring R. We first characterize finitely generated gr-multiplication ideals and then give a characterization of gr-multiplication ideals by using the gr-localization of R. Finally we determine the set of gr-P-primary ideals of R when P is a gr-multiplication gr-prime ideal of R.

Integral And Homothetic Indecomposability With Applications To Irreducibility Of Polynomials, Fati̇h Koyuncu, Ferruh Özbudak Jan 2009

Integral And Homothetic Indecomposability With Applications To Irreducibility Of Polynomials, Fati̇h Koyuncu, Ferruh Özbudak

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Being motivated by some methods for construction of homothetically indecomposable polytopes, we obtain new methods for construction of families of integrally indecomposable polytopes. As a result, we find new infinite families of absolutely irreducible multivariate polynomials over any field F. Moreover, we provide different proofs of some of the main results of Gao [2].

Formation Feedback Control Of Uav Flight, Stephen Stegall Jan 2009

Formation Feedback Control Of Uav Flight, Stephen Stegall

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

This thesis is a study of formation control with autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles using the formation as feedback. There is also an investigation of formation methods presenting insight into different algorithms for formations. A rigid formation is achieved using a proportional-derivative virtual structure with a formation feedback controller. There is an emphasis on stick controlled aerodynamics. The rigid formation is verified by a simulation of a longitudinal model. Formation control ideas are presented for rigid formations.

International Perception Of Corruption, Bina Menon, Michael D. Akers Jan 2009

International Perception Of Corruption, Bina Menon, Michael D. Akers

Accounting Faculty Research and Publications

The discussion of corruption and bribery in most auditing textbooks focuses only on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act which is an amendment to the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. As the US moves toward the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and international auditing standards, an understanding of international legislation pertaining to corruption and the perception of corruption in specific countries are important. This paper provides an overview of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Anti-bribery Convention. While prior literature has discussed the impact of both the FCPA and OECD …

Trading In Co2 Credits: Tax Issues To Consider, Maureen Mascha, J. William Harden, James Trebby Jan 2009

Trading In Co2 Credits: Tax Issues To Consider, Maureen Mascha, J. William Harden, James Trebby

Accounting Faculty Research and Publications

The issue of limiting carbon emissions has recently commanded international attention. Starting with the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, world markets have begun to coalesce around the notion that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions should be controlled or capped. There are three generally accepted methods for limiting the emission of CO2: 1) a carbon tax that charges producers a fee for emissions that exceed a prespecified amount; 2) an auction, in which organizations bid on credits that are then used to offset the amount of actual CO2 emitted; and 3) a “cap and trade” system.

The Dresden School Of Violoncello In The Nineteenth Century, Adriana Venturini Jan 2009

The Dresden School Of Violoncello In The Nineteenth Century, Adriana Venturini

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Until the nineteenth century, the violoncello was considered a background accompaniment instrument. By 1900 however, over eighty method books had been published for cello, and Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss were composing orchestral cello parts equal in difficulty to those of the violin, traditionally the only virtuosic string part. The emancipation from the ties of bass ostinato for the cello began with Bernhard Romberg in Dresden. The group of cellists, who came to be known as the Dresden School, included Kummer, Lee, Goltermann, Cossmann, Popper, Grutzmacher, Davidov, and other cellists that were students and colleagues of this group. The Dresden …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study is based on the Vine Theater Company's production of "Steel Magnolias" performed in March of 2007 at the Garden Theater in Winter Park Florida, directed by Aradhana Tiwari. This document examines the directorial journey from vision to the stage. Specifically it will explore a.) The dynamics of the production process from a directorial lens. b.) Interpreting Harling's text for design and performance c.) The development of an artistic aesthetic through collaboration. In May of 2007, I mounted a production of "Steel Magnolias" for the Orlando International Fringe Festival. The show was performed in the Universal, a thrust space …

Like A Woman: Playing The Homosexual As Truth In Kiss Of The Spider Womana, Michael Beaman Jan 2009

Like A Woman: Playing The Homosexual As Truth In Kiss Of The Spider Womana, Michael Beaman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Identity, who we are, is at the core of every human being, thus at the core of every character from every play. How the character identifies his self through gender and sexual identity will shape both physical and emotional choices that an actor will make through the rehearsal process. As an actor, it is absolutely imperative to resist the urge to pass judgment on the characters we portray. As more characters in modern drama are openly gay, there is an increasing urge for an actor to fall into campy stereotypes. Through a performance of the role of Molina in Manuel …

Breaking Tradition: Reaching For The Avant-Garde In Theatre For Young Audiences, Meredith Hoppe Jan 2009

Breaking Tradition: Reaching For The Avant-Garde In Theatre For Young Audiences, Meredith Hoppe

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis seeks to unearth the concept of breaking tradition in the field of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) in the United States by applying the avant-garde theory of Arnold Aronson as a lens through which to investigate the current development of US TYA. After formulating an approach in which to negotiate the concept of the avant-garde, I draft five tenets that currently define tradition in the field of US TYA. Situating these five tenets against Aronson's theoretical framework, I examine three contemporary US TYA plays from the past two centuries: Black Butterfly, Hush: An Interview with America, and Atypical …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the fall of 2007, I was cast in the University of Central Florida's production of The Piano Lesson. My thesis will examine my performance in the role of Grace, as well as understudying the role of Berniece under the direction of Professor Belinda Boyd. In addition to the performance components, my thesis materials will include historical and cultural character research and a reflective journal documenting my rehearsal and production process. My character research and journal will address questions about the characters "choices" and the relationship of their environment to views of personal responsibility and obligations in the play. I …

Machinal: A Sourcebook For The Actress Playing "Young Women", Brittney Rentschler Jan 2009

Machinal: A Sourcebook For The Actress Playing "Young Women", Brittney Rentschler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis will document four phases of my rehearsal process/performance while portraying the role of Helen in Sophie Treadwell's Machinal. The first phase of the project will be researching and analyzing historical material on: Sophie Treadwell (the playwright) Ruth Snyder (the murderess upon whom the character of Helen is based), and the actual murder that occurred in the 1920's. The second phase that will be documented is a character analysis. I will take each episode and divide it into the following sections: given circumstances, what is said about the character by the playwright, by others, or by herself, objectives, tactics, …

X: The Rise And Fall Of An Asylum Star (A Journey Of Two Actresses), Erika Wilhite Jan 2009

X: The Rise And Fall Of An Asylum Star (A Journey Of Two Actresses), Erika Wilhite

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The performance of X: The Rise and Fall of an Asylum Star, in conjunction with my thesis document, investigates the dichotomy of fantasy and reality for a performer. I compare the creative and emotional journey of Augustine, a young woman hospitalized for hysteria, to my own journey as an actress. Augustine was also performer, for her doctors led her in public demonstrations of the symptoms of hysteria. Her "talent" for hysteria earned her notoriety and celebrity. She was coached and directed from her doctors to enhance her demonstrations. As a result, the validity and authenticity of her state was questionable. …

Beyond Blonde: Creating A Non-Stereotypical Audrey In Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies, Christine Young Jan 2009

Beyond Blonde: Creating A Non-Stereotypical Audrey In Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies, Christine Young

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

American society possesses strong, if not basic, stereotypes for each hair color: the "dumb" blonde, the "intelligent" or "serious" brunette, and the "spitfire" redhead. In contemporary entertainment culture, blonde women have achieved unique status beyond the stereotypes accorded to their brunette and redheaded counterparts. Revered and reviled simultaneously, these women cannot be ignored or dismissed. The convention of the "dumb blonde" is at the heart of this issue. When scrutinized, it is possible to discern at least four distinctions of this stereotype: the perceived as truly dumb, or innocent, blonde (Johanna in Sweeney Todd); the bombshell blonde (Lorelei Lee in …

Through The Kaleidoscope Lens - The Affects Of The Dramatic Process And Product On The Lives Of Actors With Disabilities, Karen Weberman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This case study investigates how participating in the process of drama and the product of theatre affects the lives of persons with developmental and physical disabilities. In the summer of 2008, I documented the experiences of the actors in Kaleidoscope, a five-week musical theatre program in which 18 teenagers and adults created an original musical theatre production through a partnership between Asolo Repertory Theatre and Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities in Sarasota, Florida. In an effort to understand how moving through the rehearsal process and culminating product influenced and changed the lives of the actors within the …

Torah, Tradition, And Trina: Analysis And Development Of Trina In William Finn's Falsettos From A Faith-Based Perspective, Margaret-Ellen Jeffreys Jan 2009

Torah, Tradition, And Trina: Analysis And Development Of Trina In William Finn's Falsettos From A Faith-Based Perspective, Margaret-Ellen Jeffreys

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

When an actor approaches a character, s/he examines many facets of the play-the setting, the time period, the politics surrounding both of the former. S/he also looks into elements of the character-any noted physical attributes in the text, his/her financial and social status, what s/he wants and what obstacles are standing in his/her way. Often the last thing that the actor studies is the character's spiritual and/or religious life. When I was cast as Trina in UCF's production of Falsettos in the winter of 2005, I knew I wanted to approach the character from an oft-neglected area: her faith. Judaism …

I shall perform in The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, in Partnership with UCF in December 2008 as a part of their 2008-2009 Signature Series season. The main focus of this thesis is the exploration of how to create a performance of a classical character for a …

Plungers And Productivity: A Student Artist's Survival Guide To Multi-Tasking, Amanda Wansa Jan 2009

Plungers And Productivity: A Student Artist's Survival Guide To Multi-Tasking, Amanda Wansa

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

To be a fully functioning theatre practitioner, the developing student artist becomes equipped with a practical skill set that is ordinarily cultivated through formal training and study. Typically, organized study leads him/her to focus on a specific facet of the business: acting, directing, design, etc. However, students often develop a vast array of talents and skills within the profession and find themselves standing at a crossroads between what "kind" of artist to be; what singular aspect of the arts on which to focus. Why not do it all? For those students who "do it all", there is an additional challenge: …

Cultivating Strong Citizens Through Public Education: Greek And Roman Methodology As A Pedagogical Approach In Public Education, Krystina Sarff

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The ancient Greeks were a group of people who valued intelligence and athleticism above all other human traits; because of their focus, their society became one of the most revered and advanced civilizations in all of history. They were able to significantly influence the Roman Empire's philosophers, rhetoric, and education system. In order for the United States wants to match the Greeks' paramount feats, citizens have to become more learned and fit. The future intellectual development of the United States is at risk of halting progress as a nation if action is not taken. Quintilian's educational philosophies stimulate students' brainpower, …
