Trust In Coworkers And Employee Behaviors At Work, O. Lin Dar Dec 2009

Trust In Coworkers And Employee Behaviors At Work, O. Lin Dar

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

Research into interpersonal trust within organizational contexts tends to focus on managers as the referent, largely ignoring the topic of trust amongst coworkers.Investigations of coworker trust focus on a different referent, and are expected to have unique effects on employee behaviors. In this paper, the researcher first reviews the extant literature on trust in coworkers, trustworthiness, social undermining, organizational citizenship behavior and counterproductive work behavior. Then, a model is presented to better understand the role of coworkers in shaping focal employee trust in coworkers, which in turn may influences his or her behaviors at work. Finally, this paper explains how …

Using Polymer Electrolyte Membranes As Media To Culture Fractals: A Simulation Study, S. Amir, N.S. Mohamed, S.A. Hashim Ali Dec 2009

Using Polymer Electrolyte Membranes As Media To Culture Fractals: A Simulation Study, S. Amir, N.S. Mohamed, S.A. Hashim Ali

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

In the authors' laboratory, fern-like fractals have been cultured in polymer electrolyte membranes of polyethylene oxide (PEO) doped with ammonium iodide (N~I). The simulation study was then carried out utilizing the Diffusion Limited Aggregation COLA) based on random motion of aggregating particles modelling technique. The fractal dimension values and the forms of the simulated fractals are comparable to those observed in the PEO polymer membranes. These indicate that the simulation using the DLA model done in this study has resulted outputs that are in abidance with the original fractals cultured in the polymer membranes.

Processing Of The Planning Software For Buildings In The “Passivhaus”- Standard For Albanian Speaking Countries, Petrit Ahmeti

Theses and Dissertations

The consumption of fosile energy and specially the need of the electrical energy are increasing rapidly, which is also followed by many major problems. This is becoming a serious global problem.

This is one of main reasons that the European Union is working and making new regulations about the energy production and specially its consumption. These new regulations also include the regulations about the energy efficient buildings.

The “PassivHaus-Standard” is a building standard that fulfills the conditions that the European Parliament set for the energy efficiency for the next years. In the year 2015 this will be the Quality-Standard for …

This survey period saw continued evolution of domestic relations law through changes in legislation and case law. Legislation passed by the 2008 Georgia General Assembly took effect on July 1, 2008. The Georgia Supreme Court continued to accept non-frivolous appeals in divorce cases, which provide guidance to those interested in domestic relations law.

Evidence, Marc T. Treadwell Dec 2009

Evidence, Marc T. Treadwell

Mercer Law Review

Every Georgia attorney and trial court judge ought to set aside the time to read every Georgia appellate court opinion on the subject of evidence (or, for that matter, any other selected subject) rendered during a given period of a year. The feel that one acquires for the attitude of the appellate courts of Georgia is interesting. Most though, will not have the time for such projects, so that to read someone else's selections and comments may be of some benefit. It will not, however, give the "feel" that one acquires through an individual reading of the cases.

This was …

Insurance, Bradley S. Wolff, Stephen L. Cotter, Stephen M. Schatz

Mercer Law Review

In this survey period from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009, the courts stepped in to help those injured in motor vehicle incidents collect additional sums from uninsured motorist carriers even when the available uninsured motorist (UM) coverage may be equal to or less than the tortfeasor's liability coverage. Another notable development is found in a string of cases involving victims of mortgage fraud. The victims prevailed in all three cases.

Local Government Law, James E. Elliott Jr. Dec 2009

Local Government Law, James E. Elliott Jr.

Mercer Law Review

Because each and every tort occurs somewhere "in a county" and frequently "within the city limits," local governments often find themselves to be reluctant guests in the litigation resulting from such events. Likewise, citizens and public sector employees seem less hesitant to fight city hall than in days past. For these reasons (and others), litigation involving municipalities, counties, and their related entities enjoyed another banner year in Georgia, affording multiple opportunities for the appellate courts to establish new rules of law in the area or to reaffirm (and, occasionally, fine-tune) long-standing rules.

Distribution Channels Used In Banking Sector, Arta Dana Dec 2009

Distribution Channels Used In Banking Sector, Arta Dana

Theses and Dissertations

After 10 years since the war ended, Kosovo is still in the beginning of its development, but is continues to be achieved in the area of financial and banking sector. At the end of the conflict, Kosovo’s financial system was in chaos and also financial intermediation in Kosovo was nonexistent and virtually all transactions were settled in cash. Although this is still largely the case, banking activity started in earnest in late 2001 and was spurred by the replacement of the deutsche mark by Euros in 2002.

As an emerging market, Kosovo does hold a number of advantages. Kosovo’s greatest …

Banking On Markets To Save The Post-Nopenhagen World, Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

At the Copenhagen harbour, a statue of the little mermaid sits, as if to remind us all of the tragic fate that awaits the hopeful. And just like in the fairytale, ideals vanished into thin air at the COP 15 last month, as world leaders failed to establish any binding consensus on climate change. All is not lost. Some politicians, analysts and activists are still holding out for the alternative happy ending to the tale, where politicians will ratify an international agreement at the next COP convention… and if not, the one after that. But for those who have no …

Transition From N-Type To P-Type Destroys Ferromagnetism In Semiconducting Sn1-XCoXO2 And Sn1-XCrXO2 Nanoparticles, C. Van Komen, A. Punnoose, M. S. Seehra

Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations

This work reports strong correlations between the structural, magnetic and electronic properties of room temperature ferromagnets (RTFM) Sn1-xCoxO2 and Sn1-xCrxO2 for x = 0 to 0.1. The samples prepared by the sol-gel chemical method show RTFM for x < xL with the limiting concentration xL = 0.01 for Co doping and xL = 0.025 for Cr doping. As doping level x is increased from x = 0, the magnetic moment per ion, μ, increases and the lattice volume VL decreases up to x = xL. …

Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations

High-frequency (236 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies of Fe3+ ions at 255 K are reported in a Sn1-xFexO2 powder with x = 0.005, which is a ferromagnetic semiconductor at room temperature. The observed EPR spectrum can be simulated reasonably well as the overlap of spectra due to four magnetically inequivalent high-spin (HS) Fe3+ ions (S = 5/2). The spectrum intensity is calculated, using the overlap I(BL) + (I(HS1) + I(HS2) + I(HS3) + I(HS4)) 9 x e-0.00001xB, where B is the magnetic field intensity …

Self-Advocacy Of Women In Sexualized Labor, 1880–1980s, Kim Marie Matthews Dec 2009

Self-Advocacy Of Women In Sexualized Labor, 1880–1980s, Kim Marie Matthews

Department of History: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The purpose of this study is to centralize, into women's history, the marginalized historical voices of women activists working in sexualized labor (and/or those using sexualized economic strategies). This thesis situates the work of Josie Washburn, a former madam who turned self advocate in 1907, squarely within the Progressive Era debate on prostitution, By centralizing women's voices of sexualized lahor, it provides a means to track the long-term evolution of the intersections between women's sexualized labor choices, traditional labor choices, self-advocacy, popular media, and social/political movements on behalf of women. This study asserts that a majority Progressive Era working women …

Natural SIV infection of sooty mangabeys (SMs) is nonprogressive despite chronic virus replication. Strikingly, it is characterized by low levels of immune activation, while pathogenic SIV infection of rhesus macaques (RMs) is associated with chronic immune activation. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying this intriguing phenotype, we used high-density oligonucleotide microarrays to longitudinally assess host gene expression in SIV-infected SMs and RMs. We found that acute SIV infection of SMs was consistently associated with a robust innate immune response, including widespread upregulation of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) in blood and lymph nodes. While SMs exhibited a rapid resolution of ISG expression and …

Relating Fires’ Effect On Forest Succession And Forest's Effect On Fire Severity In One Burned And Unburned Environment, Tyler Jay Seiboldt

Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses

Wildfires are a natural part of many forest ecosystems and play a vital role in maintaining their health.  Wildfires can have a critical influence on a landscapes plant community through their relative frequency, seasonality, and severity.  One of the most heavily influenced regions by wildfire disturbance is the Klamath Mountain region of California.  I looked at the affect a wildfires severity had on the Whiskey creek valley within the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.  8 tree species and 4 flower species were examined on both the burned and unburned regions within this valley nearly a year after the wildfire (May 17-23 …

Entomology Papers from Other Sources

The cycad aulacaspis scale, Aulacaspis yasumatsui Takagi, is currently found in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and Florida (Germain and Hodges 2007). It was originally described from specimens collected on a Cycas sp., in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1972 (Takagi 1977). In recent years, finds have also been reported in California, Georgia, and Nevada (IUCN/SSC Cycad Specialist Group 2009). In 2006, severe outbreaks of cycad aulacaspis scale were reported in South Texas where sago palms, Cycas revoluta Thunb., adorn landscapes and are important ornamental plants for commercial nursery growers (Bográn et al. 2006). Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

Creating Community for Those Who Work with Wool The purpose of this project was to create opportunities for reflection and to gather information from a diverse group of people (both geographical and occupational) who have an interest in working with wool. Using various thinking skills tools in small focus groups to identify needs, occupations, interests and themes of individuals, it attempts to create a common format suitable for connecting individual vocations to the wider community of woolworkers. The appropriateness of the use of a web site, and the form that it might take are examined. A great deal of useful …

Clearing The Clutter: Organizing And Decorating Using Creative Problem Solving, Lori M. Kiefer

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

A major component of the Masters program in Creative Studies is Creative Problem Solving (CPS). This project was conducted using CPS. I needed to organize and redecorate my house, but did not know where to start. There was so much clutter that it seemed like an overwhelming task. Using Creative Problem Solving gave me a process to use in order to complete the steps needed to organize and redecorate five rooms in our house. I used the components of CPS and incorporated appropriate tools to use throughout the stages. I have included my process as well as what I have …

Hope Over Experience?, Cath Collins Dec 2009

Hope Over Experience?, Cath Collins

Human Rights & Human Welfare

Writing about US human rights policy from the outside is always a disconcerting experience. All bets are off, and all assumptions are turned on their head. Assumptions from the South looking North are that, rhetoric aside, US interests rarely if ever feature human rights protection and promotion in first place. What’s more, they have very frequently featured the opposite: dirty tricks, torture and rendition were sadly familiar to students of Latin American history long before Guantanamo. The Clinton years went some way towards reining in the more blatant contradictions of the 1980s, but they also set in train the easy …

From Inspiring Hope To Taking Action: Obama And Human Rights, Stephen James

Human Rights & Human Welfare

While President George H. Bush spoke of a new world order, and his “misunderestimated” son mangled the English language at countless press conferences, with Barack Obama the USA now has a talented orator as a president. There is a new word order. But does the new and skillful rhetoric match the reality when it comes to human rights?

The Statesman's Dilemma: Peace Or Justice? Or Neither?, Henry Krisch Dec 2009

The Statesman's Dilemma: Peace Or Justice? Or Neither?, Henry Krisch

Human Rights & Human Welfare

Just as I sat down to comment on President Obama and human rights, I glanced today's (November 19, 2009) The New York Times and found several opinion essays-careful in fact, thoughtful in tone, reasonable in argument-critical of Obama's approach during his recent visit to China toward Chinese human rights violations (mainly concerning Tibet but including also imprisoned lawyers, internet censorship, and persecution of Falun Gong.) The essayists considered various tactics for exerting American pressure on China regarding human rights. Common to all of them was a tone of rueful admiration for the political and diplomatic skill with which China fended …
