The Relationship Between Cerebral Hemisphere Volume And Receptive Language Functioning In Dyslexia And Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Adhd)., Michelle Y. Kibby, Shital P. Pavawalla, Jill B. Fancher, Angela J. Naillon, George W. Hynd Apr 2009

The Relationship Between Cerebral Hemisphere Volume And Receptive Language Functioning In Dyslexia And Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Adhd)., Michelle Y. Kibby, Shital P. Pavawalla, Jill B. Fancher, Angela J. Naillon, George W. Hynd

Publications

Because poor comprehension has been associated with small cerebral volume and there is a high comorbidity between developmental dyslexia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and specific language impairment, the goal of this study was to determine whether cerebral volume is reduced in dyslexia and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in general, as some suggest, or whether the reduction in volume corresponds to poor receptive language functioning, regardless of the diagnosis. Participants included 46 children with and without dyslexia and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, aged 8 to 12 years. Our results indicated that cerebral volume was comparable between those with and without dyslexia and attention-deficit …

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

Aqueous and hydro alcoholic extracts of the leaves of Barleria grandiflora Dalz. were evaluated for the antioxidant activity by the FTC and TBA methods. The results obtained in the present study indicate that the leaves of Barleria grandiflora are potential source of natural antioxidants. Initial phytochemical screenings of the extracts have shown the presence of flavanoids, tannins, saponins, carbohydrates and aminoacids

Effect Of Different Concentrations Of Imazaquin On Performance Of Soybean (Glycine Max)., K. S. Olorunmaiye, P. M. Olorunmaiye, O. A. Bukoye

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

An experiment was conducted in order to examine the effect of different concentrations of Imazaquin applied as both pre and post emergence treatments on soybean plants. Soybean variety TGX 17402X was used in this experiment. Results obtained revealed that efficacy of Imazaquin varies according to concentration and time of application. Adequate weed control was achieved in all the concentrations of Imazaquin with the best in concentration 0.375 kg a i./ha applied as pre emergence and all the concentrations applied as post emergence at 4 WAP (Weeks after planting) ,0.250 and 0.375 kg a i./ha at 12 WAP. Stem height was …

Phytochemical Analysis Of The Essential Oil From Aerial Parts Of Pulicaria Undulata (L.) Kostel From Sudan, Hatil Hashim El-Kamali, Mohammed Omer Yousif, Osama Ibrahim Ahmed, Sabir Suliman Sabir Apr 2009

Phytochemical Analysis Of The Essential Oil From Aerial Parts Of Pulicaria Undulata (L.) Kostel From Sudan, Hatil Hashim El-Kamali, Mohammed Omer Yousif, Osama Ibrahim Ahmed, Sabir Suliman Sabir

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

The yield of steam distillation of aerial parts of Pulicaria undulata essential oil (2.5%); and its chemical constituents were determined. The Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometery (GC/MS) technique was used for the analysis of the oil. Several oil components were identified based upon comparison of their mass spectral data with those of reference compounds published in literature or stored in a computer library. The oil was characterized by the high content of the oxygenated monoterpenes which constituted 68.28 % in which (+)-carvotanacetone (55.87 %) was the major constituent. Pulicaria undulata oil was characterized by the presence of many components which could have …

Tradomedical Values Of Cotton Leaf Plus Lemon Juice Against Clinical Bacterial Isolates, I. O. Sule, T. O. Agbabiaka, G. P. Oyeyiola

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

The antibacterial activity of the water and ethanolic extracts of cotton leaf (Gossypium spp.) plus lemon juice (Citrus limon) were tested against pure clinical isolates of Salmonella sp., Shigella sp., E. coli and Klebsiella sp. Cotton leaf is normally used in conjunction with lemon juice by the local populace in Nigeria for the treatment of enteric infections. Decoction method was used for the extraction of the active components from the plant in order to simulate the traditional method of extraction. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the diameters of zones of inhibition were determined by broth dilution and Agar diffusion …

Island Area And Species Diversity In The Southwest Pacific Ocean: Is The Lizard Fauna Of Vanuatu Depauperate?, Alison M. Hamilton, Joseph H. Hartman, Christopher C. Austin

Faculty Publications

One island group suggested to be an exception to the species-area Relationship is the Vanuatu Archipelago, a group of 13 large and 80 small islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean. To test the hypothesis that the lizard fauna of the Vanuatu Archipelago does not meet the predictions of the species-area relationship, and thus is depauperate, we compare diversity among several island groups in the southwest Pacific: Fiji, the Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. We found that the lizard diversity of Vanuatu meets the pattern of diversity predicted by the species-area relationship. The Solomon Islands, …

Fisheries Occasional Publication No. 66 - Scientific Review Of The West Coast Demersal Scalefish Fishery, Western Australia, Michael O'Neill, Department Of Fisheries Western Australia

Fisheries Occasional Publications

In December 2008 the Hon Norman Moore MLC, Minister for Fisheries Western Australia appointed two independent experts to assess separately 1) the validity of scientific advice to management and 2) options to manage recreational fishing of west coast demersal scalefish. The following review (1) assesses the validity of research outlining the status of baldchin groper (Choerodon rubescens), West Australian dhufish (Glaucosoma hebraicum) and snapper (Pagrus auratus) as described in the terms of reference. In addition to the terms of reference, an opinion was requested regarding the current appropriateness of the research advice (Wise et al 2007) and the resulting management …

Sequential Grid Computing: Models And Computational Experiments, Sam Ransbotham, Ishwar Murthy, Sabyasachi Mitra, Sridhar Narasimhan

Working Papers

Through recent technical advances, multiple resources can be connected to provide a computing grid for processing computationally intensive applications. In this paper, we build on an approach termed sequential grid computing that takes advantage of idle processing power, by routing jobs that require lengthy processing through a sequence of processors. We present two models that solve the static and dynamic versions of the sequential grid scheduling problem for a single job. In both static and dynamic versions, the model maximizes a reward function tied to the probability of completion within service level agreement parameters. In the dynamic version, the static …

Enhancing Evolution: Posthumanous Dreams And The Moral Complexity Of Biomedical Aspirations, David L. Paulsen, Clark H. Pinnock

BYU Studies

A noted academic bioethicist and British media pundit with a named chair at the University of Manchester, John Harris has recently given birth to an odd literary child. His latest book, Enhancing Evolution: The Ethical Case for Making Better People, hails from an esteemed university press, but it is informal and tendentious, often jeering at opponents, both popular and academic. Despite his credentials (an Oxford PhD in philosophy, co-editorship of the British Journal of Medical Ethics, a lengthy curriculum vitae), Harris has created a popular polemic better fitted for the entertaining and energetic repartee of the Daily Show with Jon …
