Prohibits Voting By Those Who Fail To Provide Government-Issued Identification. Adds Additional Absentee Voting Requirements. Initiative Statute
Initiatives
Prohibits citizens from casting a regular ballot at the polls unless they present a government-issued photo-identification card. Restricts voting by citizens who fail to present government-issued photo-identification to casting only provisional ballots. Invalidates both mail-in and provisional ballots unless an elections official verifies that the last four digits of the voter’s government-issued identification number on the ballot envelope are consistent with voter’s corresponding government records. Establishes that ballots from absent military personnel are timely postmarked by election day. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Some increased government costs …
Building Community Among Older Oromo Women Struggling With Sadness In A Large Urban Setting, Fatuma Kotile
Building Community Among Older Oromo Women Struggling With Sadness In A Large Urban Setting, Fatuma Kotile
Theses and Graduate Projects
Older Oromo women who immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s have experienced several stressful life events including war, famine, acculturation, harsh northern climate, a new language (English), and multiple experiences different from those in their native country, Ethiopia. Coping with these new experiences, correlates with a high level of depressive symptoms that Oromo people call "sadness." The purpose of this project is to create and describe a transcultural model of nursing practice in community that aims to decrease sadness among older Oromo women by promoting community building and healthy life choices in the midst of change. A …

Vectors And Methods For Enhanced Cell Longevity And Protein Expression, Bruce A. Webb, Jeremy Kroemer
Vectors And Methods For Enhanced Cell Longevity And Protein Expression, Bruce A. Webb, Jeremy Kroemer
Entomology Faculty Patents
It is the object of the current invention to provide methods and compositions relating to the expression of vankyrin proteins in cell lines to increase their viability, longevity and capacity for protein production. The inventors have discovered that the expression of P-ank-1 and I2-ank-3 proteins in cell culture has increased the cells' longevity and capacity for endogenous and/or heterologous target protein production. Specifically, the present invention relates to the enhanced expression of endogenous and/or heterologous target proteins/polypeptides in recombinant cells that are also expressing P-ank-1 and/or I2-ank-3 protein compared to expression host cells that are not …

Sustainability In Practice: A Study Of The Sustainable Behaviors Of Students At The Univeristy Of Tennessee At Chattanooga, Audrey Glor
Honors Theses
Sustainable behaviors, such as recycling, are increasingly important as the world's population continues to rise. While many attempts have been made at various institutions, recycling on a grand scale has yet to become a social reality. This study was designed to look at the three broad factors influencing an individual's recycling behavior: social pressure, knowledge base, and convenience. It was hypothesized that social pressure would have the greatest influence on an individual's recycling behavior, while not overlooking the importance of the other two factors. A questionnaire was employed to collect data from a sample population at the University of Tennessee …

Rhob As A Suppressor Of Cancer Cell Growth, Cell Transformation, And Metastasis, Said M. Sebti
Rhob As A Suppressor Of Cancer Cell Growth, Cell Transformation, And Metastasis, Said M. Sebti
USF Patents
The present invention concerns the use of the protein RhoB and its variants to inhibit cancer cell growth, migration, invasion, metastasis, malignant cell transformation, and/or to modulate oncogenic signaling, wherein introducing RhoB directly, or indirectly via a nucleic acid sequence encoding RhoB, into a malignantly transformed cell or a cancerous cell decreases phosphorylation of Erk and Akt proteins inhibiting the PI3-kinase/Akt cell survival pathway and promoting apoptotic cell death. In one aspect, the compositions and methods of the present invention are used to inhibit the malignant transformation of cells by the oncogenes H-Ras, N-Ras, K-Ras, EGFR, or ErbB2, or to …

Laser Beam Shaping For Pitchfork Profile, Aravinda Kar, Nathaniel Quick, Chong Zhang
Laser Beam Shaping For Pitchfork Profile, Aravinda Kar, Nathaniel Quick, Chong Zhang
UCF Patents
Apparatus, systems, methods and devices of an optical system for producing a laser beam having pitchfork profile. The system includes a laser source providing an input Gaussian beam, refractive optical lenses for converting the input Gaussian bean into a super Gaussian beam. A focusing lens focuses the super Gaussian beam, where by diffraction effect after the focusing lens, the beam profile near a focal spot is a pitchfork shaped beam. In an embodiment, the refractive optical lenses are plano-aspheric lenses. Tne pitchfork shaped beam is produced by passing the input Gaussian beam through plano-aspheric lenses to produce the super Gaussian, …
Elliptical Polarizers, Tags And Identification Systems Using Frequency Selective Surfaces, Glenn Boreman, Daniel Mullally, Jeffrey Tharp
Elliptical Polarizers, Tags And Identification Systems Using Frequency Selective Surfaces, Glenn Boreman, Daniel Mullally, Jeffrey Tharp
UCF Patents
An optical combination includes a substrate, a linear polarizer on the substrate, and a first frequency selective surface (FSS) based elliptical polarization filter on the linear polarizer. The first FSS comprises at least one periodic pattern of spaced apart electrically conductive lines having a sub-wavelength line-to-line spacing orientated along a first axis. The pattern is operable to impose a phase differential for one orthogonal linear polarization state relative to the other linear polarization state for electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength between 400 nm and 1 mm, such as 1 um to 12 um. An identification system and associated method for …

Girder System Employing Bent Steel Plating, Atorod Azizinamini
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Faculty Publications
A structural Support system employs a modified inverted box girder design for improved performance and ease of fabrica tion. Each girder of a series of girders is formed with an upper flange section, a set of web sections extending from opposite lateral sides of the upper flange section, and a base section below the web sections. The base section includes individual flanged footings that project generally towards one another. The particular cross-sectional configuration of each girder may be formed by bending a continuous steel plate along at least a first set of preselected parallel lines to establish a set of …
Efficiency Evaluation Of Education Sector Organizations Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Ewa Chodakowska
Efficiency Evaluation Of Education Sector Organizations Using Data Envelopment Analysis, Ewa Chodakowska
European Management Studies
Education is the foundation of civil society and a key condition for economic development. In Poland, there are no strong stimulators promoting high quality educational services. The basic education sector in its majority belongs to the public finance sector. Competition on the educational services market is only emerging. School rankings of different levels constitute the evidence. The imitation of competitiveness, which could stimulate education quality enhancement, could be achieved through a systematic evaluation of effectiveness. Cited in the article are worldwide examples of the application of the DEA method for efficiency analysis of education sector entities. The article presents the …
