Goal Attainment On Long Tail Web Sites: An Information Foraging Approach, James A. Mccart Oct 2009

Goal Attainment On Long Tail Web Sites: An Information Foraging Approach, James A. Mccart

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation sought to explain goal achievement at limited traffic “long tail” Web sites using

Information Foraging Theory (IFT). The central thesis of IFT is that individuals are driven by a

metaphorical sense of smell that guides them through patches of information in their environment.

An information patch is an area of the search environment with similar information. Information

scent is the driving force behind why a person makes a navigational selection amongst a group

of competing options. As foragers are assumed to be rational, scent is a mechanism by which to

reduce search costs by increasing the accuracy on …

Cross Cultural, Bilingual Group Experience: Evidence That Process-Focused Groups Work, Louis L. Downs, Tan Joo Siang, Kung Shang Chun Oct 2009

Cross Cultural, Bilingual Group Experience: Evidence That Process-Focused Groups Work, Louis L. Downs, Tan Joo Siang, Kung Shang Chun

Journal for International Counselor Education

A group of counselors, counselor educators and trainees convened a therapeutic group in Kajang, Malaysia, facilitated by a counselor from the United States. Although Malaysian counselors are accustomed to content-driven groups, this group adhered to process-focused protocols. A Delphi analysis on the outcome of the group was performed by a multinational team. Results suggested that the group followed the same stage development as described in the American literature and that the process-focused group appeared to facilitate the crossing of cultural lines more effectively than a content-driven group.

Post Partum Anxiety And Depression In Peri-Urban Communities Of Karachi, Pakistan: A Quasi-Experimental Study, Niloufer Sultan Ali, Badar S. Ali, Iqbal Azam Syed

Department of Family Medicine

Background: Postpartum anxiety and depression is a major public health concern because of its adverse effects on the cognitive and social development of the infant. Proactive, Reactive, And Romantic Relational Aggression In Adulthood: Measurement, Predictive Validity, Gender Differences, And Association With Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Dianna Murray-Close, Jamie M. Ostrov, David A. Nelson, Nicki R. Crick, Emil F. Coccaro Oct 2009

Proactive, Reactive, And Romantic Relational Aggression In Adulthood: Measurement, Predictive Validity, Gender Differences, And Association With Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Dianna Murray-Close, Jamie M. Ostrov, David A. Nelson, Nicki R. Crick, Emil F. Coccaro

Faculty Publications

The psychometric properties of a recently introduced adult self-report of relational aggression are presented. Specifically, the predictive utility of proactive and reactive peer-directed relational aggression, as well as romantic relational aggression, are explored in a large (N = 1387) study of adults. The measure had adequate reliability and validity and the subscales demonstrated unique predictive abilities for a number of dependent variables. In particular, reactive but not proactive relational aggression was uniquely associated with history of abuse, hostile attribution biases, and feelings of distress regarding relational provocation situations. Reactive relational aggression was also more strongly related to anger and …

Teachers' Reaction To Gangs And School Violence And The Mediating Effects Of Security Measures On Intentions To Leave Teaching, Suzanne King Oct 2009

Teachers' Reaction To Gangs And School Violence And The Mediating Effects Of Security Measures On Intentions To Leave Teaching, Suzanne King

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

The increase in youth gangs since the late 1980s and the related violence that has erupted in the schools has fueled the public's fear of these gangs. With the strong and proven correlation between the presence of gangs and guns and drugs in schools, this fear seems justified. The increase in violence on school campuses has created an environment of fear, which in turn has added to teacher stress, burnout, and attrition. In response, schools have teamed with law enforcement personnel to build and maintain safe schools and to provide for a safe teaching environment.

The purpose of this study …
