Two-Loop Soft Anomalous Dimensions With Massive And Massless Quarks, Nikolaos Kidonakis Oct 2009

Two-Loop Soft Anomalous Dimensions With Massive And Massless Quarks, Nikolaos Kidonakis

Faculty Articles

I present results for two-loop soft anomalous dimensions, which are derived from dimensionally regularized diagrams with eikonal quark lines and control soft-gluon emission in hard-scattering processes. Detailed results for the UV poles of the eikonal integrals are shown for massive quarks, and the massless limit is also taken. The construction of soft anomalous dimensions at two-loops allows soft-gluon resummations at NNLL accuracy.

This is Old Dominion University's 10th annual State of the Region report. While it represents the work of many people connected in various ways to the university, the report does not constitute an official viewpoint of Old Dominion or it's president, John R. Broderick. The report maintains the goal of stimulating thought and discussion that ultimately will make Hampton Roads an even better place to live. We are proud of our region's many successes, but realize that it is possible to improve our performance. In order to do so, we must have accurate information about "where we are" and a …

During atherogenesis and vascular inflammation quiescent platelets are activated to increase the surface expression and ligand affinity of the integrin αIIbβ3 via inside-out signaling. Diverse signals such as thrombin, ADP and epinephrine transduce signals through their respective GPCRs to activate protein kinases that ultimately lead to the phosphorylation of the cytoplasmic tail of the integrin αIIbβ3 and augment its function. The signaling pathways that transmit signals from the GPCR to the cytosolic domain of the integrin are not well defined. In an effort to better understand these pathways, we employed a combination of proteomic profiling and computational analyses of isolated …

Increasing dominance of lianas in many tropical forests is considered a fingerprint of global environmental change. Despite the key role they play in ecosystem functioning, lianas remain one of the least studied life forms in tropical environments. This paper contrasts leaf traits and spectral properties (400–1100 nm) of liana and tree communities from a tropical dry forest and a tropical rainforest in Panama, Central America. Differences between lianas and tree leaf traits were analyzed using spectroscopy, leaf histology and pigment extractions. Results from this study indicate that many of the biochemical, structural, and optical properties of lianas …

Dynamic Modeling And Analysis Of Multiple Sofc System Configurations, Andrew J. Slippey Oct 2009

Dynamic Modeling And Analysis Of Multiple Sofc System Configurations, Andrew J. Slippey

Theses

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) are a variety of high temperature fuel cells with particular advantages such as fuel flexibility, internal fuel reforming capability, and combined heat and power (CHP) applications. To aid in the advancement of this technology, this work develops dynamic, computer-based, mathematical models of two SOFC configurations employing different SOFC and reformer technologies. Starting from an existing recirculation-based tubular SOFC system with a steam reformer, new component models are developed for a planar SOFC stack and a partial oxidation (POX) reformer. Both the new and existing component models were updated and improved by including new pressure dynamics …

Accounting Of Profits To Remedy Biotechnology Patent Infringement, Kuris Andrews, Jeremy De Beer Oct 2009

Accounting Of Profits To Remedy Biotechnology Patent Infringement, Kuris Andrews, Jeremy De Beer

Osgoode Hall Law Journal

A number of important agricultural biotechnology patent disputes have arisen in Canada since the 2004 Supreme Court of Canada decision in Monsanto v. Schmeiser. Typically, defendants no longer contest issues of patent validity or infringement. Instead, the controversies have shifted to discussions about applicable remedies for infringement. The Schmeiser case ostensibly marked a fundamental change in the appropriate method for conducting an accounting of the profits that a defendant infringer must disgorge to a plaintiff patentee. The remedy of accounting of profits in patent cases, however, remains mired in definitional and conceptual confusion, which the Schmeiser case has brought to …

Image Registration Using Conformal Log Polar Mapping, Bala Krishna Vadapally Oct 2009

Image Registration Using Conformal Log Polar Mapping, Bala Krishna Vadapally

Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Image Registration is the process of aligning, or overlaying two images of the same scene that were taken at different times and/or from different viewing angles and/or by sensors with different modalities or resolutions. The variations in the imaging environment induce the difference between the images of the same scene. In our situation, we have two images of the same scene taken with two sensors, one in the visible and the other in the infrared (IR) domain. The cameras are placed adjacent to each other on a stable platform, and the images are captured almost simultaneously. This means that the …

Analysis Of Tradeoffs Between Buffer And Qos Requirements In Wireless Networks, Raphael Rom, Hwee-Pink Tan Oct 2009

Analysis Of Tradeoffs Between Buffer And Qos Requirements In Wireless Networks, Raphael Rom, Hwee-Pink Tan

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this paper, we consider the scheduling problem where data packets from K input-flows need to be delivered to K corresponding wireless receivers over a heterogeneous wireless channel. Our objective is to design a wireless scheduler that achieves good throughput and fairness performance while minimizing the buffer requirement at each wireless receiver. This is a challenging problem due to the unique characteristics of the wireless channel. We propose a novel idea of exploiting both the long-term and short-term error behavior of the wireless channel in the scheduler design. In addition to typical first-order Quality of Service (QoS) metrics such as …

A Study Of Content Authentication In Proxy-Enabled Multimedia Delivery Systems: Model, Techniques, And Applications, Robert H. Deng, Yanjiang Yang Oct 2009

A Study Of Content Authentication In Proxy-Enabled Multimedia Delivery Systems: Model, Techniques, And Applications, Robert H. Deng, Yanjiang Yang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Compared with the direct server-user approach, the server-proxy-user architecture for multimedia delivery promises significantly improved system scalability. The introduction of the intermediary transcoding proxies between content servers and end users in this architecture, however, brings unprecedented challenges to content security. In this article, we present a systematic study on the end-to-end content authentication problem in the server-proxy-user context, where intermediary proxies transcode multimedia content dynamically. We present a formal model for the authentication problem, propose a concrete construction for authenticating generic data modality and formally prove its security. We then apply the generic construction to authenticating specific multimedia formats, for …

Efficient Uwb Indoor Localisation Using A Ray-Tracing Propagation Tool, Tam Huynh, Conor Brennan Oct 2009

Efficient Uwb Indoor Localisation Using A Ray-Tracing Propagation Tool, Tam Huynh, Conor Brennan

9th. IT & T Conference

A novel method of applying Ray Tracing to the problem of Ultra-wide Band (UWB) indoor userlocalization is presented. This novel method for UWB localization is based on correlation between the received signal and a database of pre-computed ray-traced signals computed on a search curve. In the absence of real data the technique is validated by generating synthetic received signals using ray tracing plus Rayleigh distributed random multipath clusters as well as random amplitude and delay factors which account for database uncertainty. Results are presented that indicate that acceptable location and tracking performance can be achieved with a single sensor.

Desktop Virtualisation Scaling Experiments With Virtualbox, John Griffin, Paul Doyle Oct 2009

Desktop Virtualisation Scaling Experiments With Virtualbox, John Griffin, Paul Doyle

9th. IT & T Conference

With recent advances in virtualization and a growing concern regarding the administration and cooling costs associated with managing legacy servers, organisations are moving towards server and desktop virtualisation. Virtualisation provides the ability to provision a servers resources efficiently thus increasing hardware utilisation and reducing costs. While server virtualization provides clear advantages with regard to system management, higher system availability and lower recovery times, desktop virtualization is often complicated by the issue of determining the number of concurrent virtual desktops capable of running on a single server while providing acceptable performance to each desktop user. Determining the number of virtualised desktops …
