The Economic Impact Of The Rowe Sanctuary And Sandhill Crane Migration On The Central Nebraska Region, Richard Edwards, Eric Thompson

Bureau of Business Research Publications

Thousands of visitors travel to central Nebraska each year to view one of nature's most spectacular sights – the gathering of hundreds of thousands of sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) along the Platte River. As well as experiencing nature, the crane-watchers bring new spending to the economy of central Nebraska. In addition, crane-related conservation research and education centers obtain grants and other funds to finance their operations, also bringing new spending to the area.

This study collected financial data and conducted surveys to assess the impact of the Audubon Rowe Bird Sanctuary on the central Nebraska economy in 2009. …

Raising The Bar: How The Seventh Circuit Nearly Struck Down The Diploma Privilege Under The Dormant Commerce Clause, Paul C. Huddle

Seventh Circuit Review

In Wiesmueller v. Kosobucki, the Seventh Circuit considered whether the Wisconsin diploma privilege violated the dormant Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution. The diploma privilege grants graduates of the University of Wisconsin Law School and Marquette University Law School admission to the Wisconsin bar without examination. This privilege does not extend to graduates of other ABA-accredited law schools who desire to practice in Wisconsin. Because the issue was dismissed prematurely in the lower court, the Seventh Circuit declined to decide the issue. Nonetheless, the Seventh Circuit suggested that the diploma privilege arbitrarily discriminated against interstate commerce. This Comment …

How Social Workers Resolve The Ethical Dilemmas That Arise When Working With Women Experiencing Domestic Violence, Jennifer F. Wiech

Theses, Dissertations, and Projects

Though social workers come in contact with victims of domestic violence in a number of ways, studies indicate that social workers report feeling underprepared by their graduate education to address issues of domestic violence (DV). In an effort to reveal what is preventing social workers from taking a more demonstrative position on this issue, two focus groups comprised of 5 to 8 Master's level social workers were conducted to explore what resources aid in resolving ethical dilemmas, as well as the following ethical issues: upholding a client's right to self-determination, a clinician's duty to warn/duty to protect, mandatory reporting of …

China-United States Trade Negotiations And Disputes: The Wto And Beyond, Pasha L. Hsieh Sep 2009

China-United States Trade Negotiations And Disputes: The Wto And Beyond, Pasha L. Hsieh

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

This article examines trade negotiations and disputes between China and the United States. It begins by ascertaining the unique political aspects of China-U.S. bilateral economic ties and explains the historical background underlying the relations. The article then argues that trade frictions between China and the United States are unlikely to repeat the Depression-era trade wars. The article observes that both the Chinese and U.S. governments are aware that the adoption of WTO-inconsistent measures may result in retaliatory actions from the other side. Hence, the two governments have attempted to resolve potential disputes through high-level official talks. Even when certain issues …
