Interactions Between Price And Price Deal, Kunal Swani, Boonghee Yoo Nov 2009

Interactions Between Price And Price Deal, Kunal Swani, Boonghee Yoo

Marketing Faculty Publications

The purpose of this study was to examine the interactive effect of price and price deal. Specifically, we want to measure how consumers' behavioral intentions toward the brand are affected for a high-priced brand and a low-priced brand when a price deal is offered.

Adolescent Interest In Alcohol Responsibility Messages: The Message Matters, Kevin Kimball John Nov 2009

Adolescent Interest In Alcohol Responsibility Messages: The Message Matters, Kevin Kimball John

Theses and Dissertations

Adolescents are especially vulnerable to image-based messages, which place them directly in line with the lifestyle messages presented in numerous alcohol advertisements. Research has shown that teenagers encounter alcohol advertisements from a variety of sources, prompting concern over the consequences of exposure and the risks associated with teen drinking. Warning messages contained within these alcohol advertisements are often vague in their wording and targeted to promote responsible drinking among adults, making them wholly inadequate for teen deterrence. This thesis explores the problems with current alcohol responsibility messages when dealing with teens, and proposes the development of new, modified messages, that …

Department of Biology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Problem statement: Respiratory complications have been linked with exposure to dust particulates after the tragedy of September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center (WTC) site. Approach: The purpose of these experiments was to investigate the extent of cellular damage resulting from WTC dust exposure. Results: This research project was conducted with human lung fibroblast cells exposed to WTC dust. To determine if cell proliferation levels were affected, cultured cells were exposed to WTC dust at various concentrations in simulated physiological stress environments via decreased serum levels. Results indicated that cell proliferation levels decreased as WTC dust concentrations increased. This …

We present the results of a search for Higgs bosons predicted in two-Higgs-doublet models, in the case where the Higgs bosons decay to tau lepton pairs, using 1.8fb-1 of integrated luminosity of pp̄ collisions recorded by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. Studying the mass distribution in events where one or both tau leptons decay leptonically, no evidence for a Higgs boson signal is observed. The result is used to infer exclusion limits in the two-dimensional space of tan □ β versus mA (the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets and the mass …

Faculty Publications

Complex tensor contraction expressions arise in accurate electronic structure models in quantum chemistry, such as the coupled cluster method. This paper addresses two complementary aspects of performance optimization of such tensor contraction expressions. Transformations using algebraic properties of commutativity and associativity can be used to significantly decrease the number of arithmetic operations required for evaluation of these expressions. The identification of common subexpressions among a set of tensor contraction expressions can result in a reduction of the total number of operations required to evaluate the tensor contractions. The first part of the paper describes an effective algorithm for operation minimization …

Development And Deployment Of An Underwater Mass Spectrometer For Quantitative Measurements Of Dissolved Gases, Ryan J. Bell Nov 2009

Development And Deployment Of An Underwater Mass Spectrometer For Quantitative Measurements Of Dissolved Gases, Ryan J. Bell

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Manual collection and processing of seawater samples for dissolved gas analyses are technically challenging, time consuming and costly. Accordingly, in situ analysis techniques present attractive alternatives to conventional gas measurement procedures. To meet the demands of sustained, high-resolution chemical observations of the oceans, the University of South Florida and SRI International developed underwater mass spectrometer systems for quantitative measurements of dissolved gases and volatile organic compounds. This work describes the influence of variable in situ conditions on the performance of a membrane introduction mass spectrometer used for measurements in both the water column and sediment porewater.

Theory And Simulation Of Metal-Organic Materials And Biomolecules, Jonathan L. Belof Nov 2009

Theory And Simulation Of Metal-Organic Materials And Biomolecules, Jonathan L. Belof

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The emerging field of nanomaterials has raised a number of fascinating scientific questions that remain unanswered. Molecular theory and computer simulation are key tools to unlocking future discoveries in materials science, and various computational techniques and results toward this goal are elucidated here. High-performance computing methods (utilizing the latest supercomputers and codes) have been developed to explore and predict the chemistry and physical properties of systems as diverse as Metal-Organic Frameworks, discrete nanocubes, photoswitch molecules, porphyrins and several interesting enzymes. In addition, highlights of fundamental statistical physics, such as the Feynman-Hibbs effective partition function and generalized ensemble theory, are expounded …

Influence Of Extreme Storm Events On West Florida Shelf Cdom Distributions, Robyn N. Conmy, Paula G. Coble, Jennifer P. Cannizzaro, Cynthia A. Heil Nov 2009

Influence Of Extreme Storm Events On West Florida Shelf Cdom Distributions, Robyn N. Conmy, Paula G. Coble, Jennifer P. Cannizzaro, Cynthia A. Heil

Marine Science Faculty Publications

Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) distribution and signatures provide vital information about the amount and composition of organic material in aquatic environments. This information is critical for deciphering the sources and biogeochemical pathways of organic carbon, and thus vital to the understanding of carbon cycling and budgets. Waters of the West Florida Shelf are heavily influenced by many river systems on Florida's Gulf Coast that, to the first order, control CDOM distributions on the shelf. Three storm events during 2004 and 2005 (Hurricane Charley, Hurricane Wilma, and a Winter Storm) profoundly altered the typical distribution of CDOM fluorescence and absorption …

Summary Of Glover V. Dist. Court, 125 Nev. Adv. Op. No. 53, Amy Kominsky

Nevada Supreme Court Summaries

This case involved a writ of prohibition to determine if Defendant’s double jeopardy rights were violated when the district court ordered a mistrial and subsequent retrial as a “manifest necessity” based on potential jury bias because defense counsel impermissibly argued facts not in evidence.
