Effectiveness Of The Sbar Format For Teaching Communication Skills To Nursing Students Undergoing A Simulation Experience, Anna Sackette-Umess

Theses and Dissertations

The development of communication skills is considered a cornerstone of nursing education. It is vital that student nurses learn to effectively and compassionately communicate with patients and family members. It is also of utmost importance that student nurses learn to accurately communicate with other healthcare professionals, ensuring patient care and safety standards are met. The ability to develop new strategies for teaching the fundamental skills of communication, while meeting national mandates on patient safety has been challenging for nursing programs. lnc011Jorating simulation technology into curriculum has been one way in which nursing programs across the counhy are making necessary updates. …

An Animation Framework For Improving The Comprehension Of Tinyos Programs, Sravanthi Dandamudi Dec 2009

An Animation Framework For Improving The Comprehension Of Tinyos Programs, Sravanthi Dandamudi

All Theses

To meet the increasing demand for monitoring of the physical world, there has been an increase in the development of wireless sensor network applications. The TinyOS platform has emerged as a de facto standard for developing these applications. The platform offers a number of advantages, with its support for concurrency, power-efficient operation, and resource-constrained hardware chief among them. However, the benefits come at a price. Even without the TinyOS platform, the inherent parallel and distributed nature of these applications makes it difficult for developers to reason about program behavior. Further, the TinyOS programming model adopts
asynchronous, split-phase execution semantics. Developers …

Thermochromic Absorption And Photoluminescence In [Pt(Ppy)(Μ-Ph2pz)]2, Aaron A. Rachford, Felix N. Castellano

Chemistry Faculty Publications

The temperature effects on the spectral properties and photophysics of a new d(8)-d(8) dinuclear Pt-II chromophore, [Pt(ppy)(mu-Ph(2)pz)](2) (ppy is 2-phenylpyridine and Ph(2)pz is 3,5-diphenylpyrazolate), have been investigated. The thermochromic shifts are tentatively ascribed to intramolecular sigma interactions between the two pseudocofacial d(Z2) orbitals. Substantial emission profile changes occur in the solid state, solution, and doped polymer films.

Auction & Bidwatching, Siddharth Machiraju Dec 2009

Auction & Bidwatching, Siddharth Machiraju

Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations

Auctions are among the oldest economic institutions in place. They have been used since antiquity to sell a wide variety of goods, and their basic form has remained unchanged. In this dissertation, we explore the efficiency of common auctions when values are interdependent- the value to a particular bidder may depend on information available only to others-and asymmetric. In this setting, it is well known that sealed-bid auctions do not achieve efficient allocations in general since they do not allow the information held by different bidders to be shared. Auction & Bid Watching concept deals with the Online Auction & …

Module Cover Conductivity Enhancement, Niles Dhanens, James Fortner

Mechanical Engineering

A clam shell module cover for printed circuit boards (PCB) has been designed for use in Boeing’s AECM cabinet. The cover utilizes materials with high thermal conductivity and cools the PCB by conducting the heat to a cold plate interface. Materials were compared and aluminum 6061-T6, aluminum 3003, and annealed pyrolytic graphite (APG) were chosen. A prototype was built and tested using aluminum 6061-T6 which was able to dissipate 57.7% of the projected wattage. Issues may include unforeseen complications in assembly along with components performing at lower levels than specified by manufacturers. The APG prototype was unable to be tested …

The Absurdity In Samuel Beckett, Quianna Juawanda Glapion Dec 2009

The Absurdity In Samuel Beckett, Quianna Juawanda Glapion

Theses (Pre-2016)

Samuel Beckett became famous as a dramatist after his publication of Waiting for Godot in 1951. My thesis concentrates on three .of Beckett's plays. These plays place him in the Theatre of the Absurd which is one of the major movements in drama following World War II. Between 1950 and 1960 this literary movement also connected other dramatists such as Edward Albee, Harold Pinter and Jean Genet. According to Albert Camus's essay, "The Myth of Sisyphus," the work of these artists is an expression of their own personal experience and world outlook. Camus also reveals that the emotions of absurdity …

Rfid Modeling, Characterization, And Optimization, Joseph A. Cudrnak

Electrical Engineering

Passive RFID tags may be used to transmit a message to a reader. This technology is useful for many applications, including inventory systems. However, due to electromagnetic cancellation on conductive surfaces, the reader cannot detect RFID tags placed directly on conductive objects. Using tag characterization in an RF anechoic chamber and modeling in HFSS, three types of Omni ID tags were characterized and a design was proposed to maximize signal power delivered to the reader.

Formation Of Cull Cow Program For The Artificial Insemination Class, Brian O. Medeiros

Dairy Science

Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy is one of the great traits that the University holds. However it is this philosophy that is also one of the most expensive and hardest to maintain. “Production agriculture majors use more dollars per unit than any other major in the entire college,” as Dr. Golden stated during his talks about herd cut backs. Never the less the College of Agriculture prides itself on supplying knowledgeable and experienced students to the industry that supports it so much. One of the amazing classes that are offered at the university is the Dairy Science Artificial Insemination …

Code Black: A Black Catholic Liberation Bioethics, Shawnee M. Daniels-Sykes S.S.N.D. Dec 2009

Code Black: A Black Catholic Liberation Bioethics, Shawnee M. Daniels-Sykes S.S.N.D.

Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium

Based on a paper delivered during the 2008 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Daniels-Sykes, S.S.N.D., proposes that the long history of neglect and abuse suffered by blacks at the hands of the health care industry results from entrenched assumptions fostered by Western philosophies and principles that guide mainstream medical ethics, particularly in light of the 1979 Belmont Report, produced in response to the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study. That the report failed to take into consideration the circumstances of poverty and race, factors key to our understanding those victimized by the Study, underscores the prevailing implicit assumptions of black inferiority. Daniels-Sykes advises …

Anomaly Detection Techniques For Ad Hoc Networks, Chaoli Cai Dec 2009

Anomaly Detection Techniques For Ad Hoc Networks, Chaoli Cai

Dissertations

Anomaly detection is an important and indispensable aspect of any computer security mechanism. Ad hoc and mobile networks consist of a number of peer mobile nodes that are capable of communicating with each other absent a fixed infrastructure. Arbitrary node movements and lack of centralized control make them vulnerable to a wide variety of unknown and known attacks from inside as well as from outside. In this dissertation we propose two efficient statistical techniques for anomaly detection for these networks.

In order to take into account incomplete testing samples and the interaction among multiple features, we present BANBAD •- a …
