Geology Of Virginia For Teachers At Radford University, J. Tso
Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations
The Radford University version of the Virginia Earth Science Collaborative‘s Geology of Virginia was taught during Summer 2006 and 2007, and was entitled, Geology of Virginia for Teachers (GEOL 691). A total of eighteen teachers, primarily from southside and southwestern Virginia, attended the class. The goal of the course was to provide essential knowledge and advanced skills in geology in general, and the geology of Virginia in particular. The course had a strong field emphasis, using Virginia as a natural teaching laboratory to illustrate such concepts as plate tectonics, rock interpretation, and Steno‘s Laws. Lectures and lab activities were used …

New Exact Traveling Wave Solutions For The Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation, Zaiyun Zhang
New Exact Traveling Wave Solutions For The Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation, Zaiyun Zhang
Turkish Journal of Physics
In this paper we discuss the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation and we derive the new traveling wave solutions by applying trigonometric function series method. Also, they are complex linear combinations of kink solitary wave solutions and bell solitary wave solutions.
Pressure Induced Phase Transition In Monopnictides Cesb And Lasb, Sadhna Singh, Raja Chauhan, Atul Gour
Pressure Induced Phase Transition In Monopnictides Cesb And Lasb, Sadhna Singh, Raja Chauhan, Atul Gour
Turkish Journal of Physics
In the present paper, monopnictides of Ce and La, which crystallize in B_1 structure, have been studied using effective interaction potential (EIP) approach. The phase transition pressure and volume collapses for CeSb and LaSb predicted from this approach are found to be close to experimental data.
High Field Conduction In Thin Films Of A-(Ge_{.20}{Se0}_{.80})_{1-X}{Pb}_X Glassy Alloys, Rachna Singh, Santosh Kumar
High Field Conduction In Thin Films Of A-(Ge_{.20}{Se0}_{.80})_{1-X}{Pb}_X Glassy Alloys, Rachna Singh, Santosh Kumar
Turkish Journal of Physics
The present paper reports d.c. conductivity measurements at high electric fields in vacuum evaporated amorphous thin films of (Ge_{.20}Se0_{.80})_{1-x}Pb_x (where x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06 and 0.10) glassy alloys. Current-Voltage (I-V) Characteristics have been measured at various fixed temperatures. In these samples, at low electric fields, ohmic behavior is observed. However, at high electric fields (E \sim 10^4 V/cm), non-ohmic behavior is observed. An analysis of the experimental data confirms the presence of space charge limited conduction (SCLC) in the glassy materials studied in the present case. From the fitting of the data to the theory of SCLC, the …

Path Integral Evaluation Of A Time-Dependent Oscillator In An External Field, Akpan Ndem Ikot, Eno Etim Ituen, Ime. E. Essien, Louis Ete Akpabio
Turkish Journal of Physics
The Lagrangian of a system describing the dynamical behaviour of a time-dependent harmonic oscillator is modified and then used to evaluate the Feynman path integral of the oscillator. The path integral of the time-dependent oscillator is shown to reduce to the time-independent within certain limits.

Electric Dipole Oscillator Strengths Of Boron, Gökhan Tekeli̇, Şule Ateş, Gülteki̇n Çeli̇k
Turkish Journal of Physics
Electric dipole oscillator strengths for both individual and multiplet lines between some excited levels of atomic boron are calculated using the Weakest Bound Electron Potential Model Theory (WBEPMT). The Numerical Coulomb Approximation wave functions for expectation values of radii in all states and experimental ionization energies have been employed to determinate the parameters. The obtained results from this work agree very well with the accepted values taken from NIST, Multi-Configurational Hartree-Fock (MCHF) results and atomic line data.
Static Plane Symmetric Zeldovich Fluid Model In Scale Invariant Theory, Bivudutta Mishra
Static Plane Symmetric Zeldovich Fluid Model In Scale Invariant Theory, Bivudutta Mishra
Turkish Journal of Physics
Field equations in the presence of a perfect fluid distribution for static plane symmetric metric are obtained in the scale invariant theory of gravitation proposed by Wesson [1]. A static Zeldovich fluid model corresponding to perfect fluid is presented. Physical and kinematical properties of the model are discussed.
Masses Of Charged Leptons And Gauge Mixing Parameters, Cvavb Chandra Raju
Masses Of Charged Leptons And Gauge Mixing Parameters, Cvavb Chandra Raju
Turkish Journal of Physics
It is shown that the electroweak physics of the electron and the muon is based on the left-right gauge model with the mixing parameters 0.2254 and 0.2746. These mixing parameters are determined by the masses of the electron and the muon. The electroweak physics of the Tau-lepton and its left-handed neutrino is based on the gauge group SU(2)_L XU(1).The mixing parameter for this gauge model is 0.5 and is determined by the mass of the charged Tau-lepton. The W and Z bosons that mediate the electroweak physics of Tau-lepton and its neutrino have masses 173.5 GeV and 245.4 GeV, respectively.

Nonlinear Two-Mode Squeezed Vacuum States As Realization Of Su(1,1) Lie Algebra, Gamal Mohamed Abd Al-Kader, Abdel-Shafy Fahmy Obada
Turkish Journal of Physics
Nonlinear extensions of the two-mode squeezed vacuum states (NTMSVS's) are constructed and special cases of these states are discussed. We have constructed the NTMSVS's realization of SU(1,1) Lie algebra. Two cases of the definition are considered for unitary and non-unitary deformation operator functions. Some nonclassical properties of these states are discussed.
Stability Of Hickson Groups Of Galaxies, Ibrahim Selim, Naseer Iqbal
Stability Of Hickson Groups Of Galaxies, Ibrahim Selim, Naseer Iqbal
Turkish Journal of Physics
In this work we have used the Viril theorem to investigate the dynamical stability of Hickson compact groups of galaxies. The average luminous mass of the galaxies member is approximately 1.3 \times 0^{11} M_{\odot} and average total luminous mass of group is approximately 4.6 \times 0^{11} M_{\odot}. The virial theorem has used to estimate the virial mass. The average Virial mass of group of galaxies is approximately 6.3 \times 0^{13} M_{\odot} This is attributed to the presence of large amount of dark matter which is more than 90% in this group. Hickson compact groups of galaxies are unstable system due …
Theoretical Investigation Of Superconducting State Parameters Of Binary Metallic Glasses Cu_{1-C}Sn_C, Aditya M. Vora
Theoretical Investigation Of Superconducting State Parameters Of Binary Metallic Glasses Cu_{1-C}Sn_C, Aditya M. Vora
Turkish Journal of Physics
Superconducting state parameters (SSP) viz. electron-phonon coupling strength \lambda, Coulomb pseudopotential \mu^*, transition temperature T_C, isotope effect exponent \alpha and effective interaction strength N_O V of seven Cu_{1-c} Sn_c binary metallic glasses have been reported using Ashcroft's empty core (EMC) model potential for the first time. Five local field correction functions proposed by Hartree (H), Taylor (T), Ichimaru-Utsumi (IU), Farid et al. (F) and Sarkar et al. (S) are used in the present investigation to study the screening influence on the aforesaid properties. The T_C obtained from H-local field correction function are found in qualitative agreement with available experimental data …

Turkish Journal of Physics
Temperature dependence of ultrasonic attenuation due to phonon-phonon interaction and thermo-elastic loss have been studied in (CsCl-type) barium monochalcogenides (BaX, X= S, Se, Te), in the temperature range 50-500 K; for longitudinal and shear modes of propagation along , and directions. Second and third order elastic constants have been evaluated using electrostatic and Born repulsive potentials and taking interactions up to next nearest neighbours. Gruneisen parameters, nonlinearity constants, nonlinearity constants ratios and viscous drag due to screw and edge dislocations have also been evaluated for longitudinal and shear waves at 300 K. In the present investigation, it has been found …

A Linguistic Analysis Of Chat Reference Conversations With 18–24-Year-Old College Students, Jack M. Maness
University Libraries: Faculty Scholarship
Thirty-one chat reference conversations were linguistically analyzed, compared to twenty-three instant messaging (IM) conversations held between students, and further correlated to students’ satisfaction with the reference interaction. Conversations between librarians and students in chat reference are more formal than those solely involving students, and the use of some linguistic patterns are correlated to user satisfaction.
