The primary cause of this accident is listed as a Field Control Inadequacy because the Victim was a field supervisor who acted in breach of basic safety requirements by poking a mine with a stick, apparently as a joke. The secondary cause is listed as a Management Control Inadequacy because the demining group’s managers are responsible for the selection and training of appropriately responsible field supervisors.

Smartstore: A New Metadata Organization Paradigm With Metadata Semantic-Awareness For Next-Generation File Systems, Yu Hua, Hong Jiang, Yifeng Zhu, Dan Feng, Lei Tian
School of Computing: Technical Reports
Existing data storage systems based on hierarchical directory tree do not meet scalability and functionality requirements for exponentially growing datasets and increasingly complex metadata queries in large-scale file systems with billions of files and Exabytes of data. This paper proposes a novel decentralized semantic-aware metadata organization, called SmartStore, which exploits metadata semantics of files to judiciously aggregate correlated files into semantic-aware groups by using information retrieval tools. The decentralized design of SmartStore can improve system scalability and reduce query latency for both complex queries (including range and top-k queries), which is helpful to construct semantic-aware caching, and conventional filename-based point …

Ideas: An Identity-Based Security Architecture For Large-Scale And High-Performance Storage Systems, Zhongying Niu, Ke Zhou, Hong Jiang, Dan Feng, Tianming Yang
School of Computing: Technical Reports
We develop IDEAS, an identity-based security architecture for large-scale and high-performance storage systems, designed to improve security, convenience and total cost of access control by merging identity management with access control in these systems. IDEAS authenticates users at each I/O node by using a single-identity certificate without the service of a centralized security server and enforces access control mechanism by using an object-based access control (OBAC) model, which is designed to address the complexity and scalability issue of security administration in large-scale storage systems. We also discuss the issue of how to identify and authenticate a large number of users …

Predictors Of Gastrointestinal Lesions On Endoscopy In Iron Deficiency Anemia Without Gastrointestinal Symptoms, Shahid Majid, Mohammad Salih, Rozina Wasaya, Wasim Jafri
Section of Gastroenterology
Background:Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) due to occult gastrointestinal (GI) blood loss usually remains unnoticed until Patient become symptomatic. There is sparse data in IDA Patients without gastrointestinal symptoms. This study was designed to find out the frequency and predictors of endoscopic lesions in IDA without gastrointestinal symptoms. Cross-sectional study performed on a convenience sample of consecutive subjects.
Methods: Ninety five consecutive Patients with laboratory based diagnosis of IDA having no gastrointestinal symptoms were interviewed and their clinical and biochemical variables were recorded. All the study Patients underwent esophago-gastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. Endoscopic findings were documented as presence/absence of bleeding …

From the late nineteenth into the mid-twentieth century, civil rights reformers fought, with little success, against the argument that law was powerless to change prejudicial attitudes and customs. It was widely assumed during the Jim Crow era that forcing the principle of racial equality on resistant southern whites might turn desegregation into yet another failed experiment in social reform by legal fiat - another Reconstruction or Prohibition. In the 1940s and 1950s, these assumptions began to give way because of the efforts of liberal scholars and activists who made the case that legal reform could be particularly effective at combating …
