Emotional Intelligence, Shared Vision, And Teamwork Performance: A Qualitative Study, Ed Mahon Dec 2008

Emotional Intelligence, Shared Vision, And Teamwork Performance: A Qualitative Study, Ed Mahon

Student Scholarship

There is a vast literature on the emotional intelligence (EI) of individuals, but comparatively little on team EI. We report findings of a qualitative inquiry involving 36 members of twelve IT teams--half of them effective and half less so--to explore the relationship between team EI and team performance. Trust, conflict resolution skills and team communication are seen to differentiate effective and less effective teams, as is the ability to adapt shared vision to changes in project specification. The research supports the that teams possess emotional intelligence and that it powerfully influences how they function and to what effect. Our findings …

Digital Divide Bridging Strategies In Escwa Countries: A Special Reference To Iraq, Amr Hisham Mohammed

Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences

The rapid and far-reaching advancements in microelectronics-based information technology are fundamentally reshaping the global economic landscape, redefining the competitive advantages of nations, interconnecting disparate enterprises, and globalizing financial services, while simultaneously presenting both novel challenges and transformative opportunities for the development of the world’s poorest countries. This technological shift has radically altered the costs associated with information acquisition, processing, and communication, leading to the emergence of "Informationism"—also referred to as the Information Space or Cyberspace—which encompasses a supply side consisting of hardware, telecommunications infrastructure, software, and electronics-based industries, and a demand side comprising applications across various sectors such as economic …

Monetary Policy In Iraq After 9/4/2003 (Reality And Ambition), Khalil Ismail Ibrahim Dec 2008

Monetary Policy In Iraq After 9/4/2003 (Reality And Ambition), Khalil Ismail Ibrahim

Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences

No living organism or social entity can fulfill its designated role unless it possesses the necessary and sufficient means to do so. This principle is echoed in the Holy Quran: Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided it (Surah Taha: 50). Economic activity, as an integral component of the broader societal structure, is no exception to this rule. For an economic system to perform an effective role, it must be equipped with the instruments that enable it to achieve its intended objectives. These instruments are generally encompassed within the framework of ""Economic Policy,"" which …

The Role Of Statutory Auditor In An Environment Of Complex Information Technology And Audit Risks, Ali Hussein Aldoghachi Dec 2008

The Role Of Statutory Auditor In An Environment Of Complex Information Technology And Audit Risks, Ali Hussein Aldoghachi

Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences

Companies are increasingly accelerating the integration of information technology into their financial operations, reducing reliance on paper-based documentation while retaining original copies primarily to support electronically processed transactions. This growing shift toward virtualization in business relationships with suppliers, consumers, and partners has intensified the need for trust and assurance, placing significant pressure on auditors to certify these digital safeguards. Furthermore, the widespread adoption of publishing financial reports online—initially through the establishment of corporate websites and subsequently using Adobe Acrobat to present non-interactive, read-only financial statements—aims to facilitate stakeholder access while maintaining data integrity. However, to ensure credibility, auditors must verify …

A Comparative Study Of Extended Meta-Ethnography And Meta-Analysis Based On The Fundamental Micro-Purposes Of A Literature Review, Rhae-Ann Richardson Booker

Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore the results of literature review methods operating out of interpretivist and positivist paradigms. Using existingstudies on racial and ethnic matching of African American and Caucasian American clients and clinicians as data, my investigation included an examination of the research processes and results of an extended meta-ethnography (EME) and a published meta-analysis (PMA). The premise of my investigation was that both review methods include and, furthermore, require some level of interpretation, as answers are sought by researchers for their questions or areas ofinterest. Furthermore, my exploration included comparing the EME and PMA results …

Milberg’S Monopoly: Restoring Honesty And Competition To The Plaintiffs’ Bar, James P. Mcdonald Dec 2008

Milberg’S Monopoly: Restoring Honesty And Competition To The Plaintiffs’ Bar, James P. Mcdonald

Duke Law Journal

When the renowned plaintiffs' firm Milberg Weiss was indicted in 2006 for paying kickbacks to clients, most commentators saw the scandal as the product of five dishonest lawyers. This Note argues that the causes were more complex than the moral shortcomings of a few attorneys; rather, the kickbacks were but one symptom of a deeply flawed system for selecting lead counsel in securities class action lawsuits. Although the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 attempted to curb abusive behavior by the plaintiffs' bar, its focus on reforming plaintiff behavior meant that attorneys were left relatively free to continue using …

Use Of Anticonvulsants Drugs For Neuropathic Painful Conditions, Aziza Mohammad Hussain, Gauhar Afshan Dec 2008

Use Of Anticonvulsants Drugs For Neuropathic Painful Conditions, Aziza Mohammad Hussain, Gauhar Afshan

Department of Anaesthesia

Neuropathic pain, a form of chronic pain initiated and sustained by an insult to the peripheral or central nervous system, is a challenge to clinicians as it does not respond well to traditional pain therapies. However exact pathophysiology is not known but considering similarities between epilepsy models and in neuropathic pain models justify the rationale for use of anticonvulsant drugs in the symptomatic management of neuropathic pain disorders. The role of anticonvulsant drugs in the treatment of neuropathic pain is evolving and various clinical trials have used these anticonvulsants and shown positive results in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, painful …

Saving The Wto From The Risk Of Irrelevance: The Wto Dispute Settlement Mechanism As A Common Good For Rta Disputes, Henry Gao, Chin Leng Lim Dec 2008

Saving The Wto From The Risk Of Irrelevance: The Wto Dispute Settlement Mechanism As A Common Good For Rta Disputes, Henry Gao, Chin Leng Lim

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

Over the past few decades, Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) have proliferated globally. Such proliferation of RTAs created a renewed sense of urgency for the WTO to take action in order to avoid the fate of being eclipsed into irrelevance. There are several options for coping with the challenge. Theoretically speaking, the best approach would be to heighten the level of ambition in global trade talks to reduce all trade barriers to zero so that the discriminatory effect created by RTAs could be reduced or even eliminated. In reality, such an approach would be impossible for well-known reasons. The next best …

Reasonable Suspicion Or Real Likelihood: A Question Of Semantics? Re Shankar Alan S/O Anant Kulkarni, Lionel Leo, Siyuan Chen

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

The law on apparent bias has been mired in some controversy following the High Court decision of Re Shankar Alan s/o Anant Kulkarni, where Sundaresh Menon J.C. seemingly departed from the tentative views of Andrew Phang J.C. (as he then was) in Tang Kin Hwa v. Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board on the issue of whether there were any material differences between the “reasonable suspicion of bias” test and the “real likelihood of bias” test, the two formulations of the test for apparent bias that have been variously adopted by different jurisdictions in the common law world. In Tang Kin …

Surface Water Interaction With The Flood Plain In The Lower Virgin River, Clark County, Nevada, Jeffrie L. Pompeo Dec 2008

Development of existing surface water rights on the Virgin River would decrease Southern Nevada's dependency on the Colorado River. Three monitoring sites were established to examine the relationship between Virgin River surface water flows and the floodplain aquifer. Automated water level measuring devices were installed in piezometers and wells to continuously track water levels and flow direction. Pump tests were conducted to establish the hydraulic parameters of the floodplain aquifer. Water chemistry data was analyzed to help determine the correlation between the floodplain aquifer and Virgin River water. Precipitation, recharge, streamflow and ET estimates were used to discuss water budgets. …

Environmental Law, Eleventh Circuit Survey, Travis M. Trimble Dec 2008

Environmental Law, Eleventh Circuit Survey, Travis M. Trimble

Scholarly Works

The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit decided cases in 2008 that addressed the scope of agency discretion in several contexts. In an issue of first impression under the Clean Air Act (CAA),the court held that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) properly exercised its discretion in not objecting to the issuance of an operating permit to a power company that the agency had earlier formally accused of violating the CAA. In another case, the court held that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had the discretion to protect endangered species while administering the National Flood Insurance Act and …

Toward Ethical Plea Bargaining, Erica J. Hashimoto Dec 2008

Toward Ethical Plea Bargaining, Erica J. Hashimoto

Scholarly Works

Defendants in criminal cases are overwhelmingly more likely to plead guilty than to go to trial. Presumably, at least a part of the reason that most of them do so is that it is in their interest to plead guilty, i.e., they will receive a more favorable outcome if they plead guilty than if they go to trial. The extent to which pleas reflect fair or rational compromises in practice, however, depends upon a variety of factors, including the amount of information each of the parties has about the case. Some level of informational symmetry therefore is critical to the …

Individual Differences In Emotion Expression: Hierarchical Structure And Relations With Psychological Distress, Jeffery H. Kahn, Leah K. Barr, Joel W. Schneider Dec 2008

Individual Differences In Emotion Expression: Hierarchical Structure And Relations With Psychological Distress, Jeffery H. Kahn, Leah K. Barr, Joel W. Schneider

Faculty Publications – Psychology

Several constructs reflecting individual differences in emotion expression have been described in the literature, yet their structural organization is unknown. The present study provided a taxonomy of these individual differences and determined their relations to depression and anxiety symptoms. Exploratory factor analyses suggested seven emotion-expression factors-Affect Intensity, Ambivalence About Expression Disclosure of Negative Emotion, Disclosure of Emotion, Disclosure of Lack of Affect, Expression of Positive Emotion, and Secret Keeping-are explained by two second-order factors: Emotional Constraint and Emotional Expression. Multiple regression and canonical correlation analyses suggested that a reluctance to express emotions is related to heightened psychological symptoms. These findings …

Cfrp Repair Of Concrete Beams Aged By Accelerated Corrosion, George C. Parish Dec 2008

Cfrp Repair Of Concrete Beams Aged By Accelerated Corrosion, George C. Parish

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

In 2006, the Federal Highway Administration statistics showed that approximately one out of every 13 reinforced concrete bridges in the USA is structurally deficient. As infrastructure continues to age and deteriorate, there will not be sufficient funds to replace every deficient bridge. Therefore, effective and durable repair methods must be developed and implemented. In this research, an experimental study is presented to determine both the short- and long-term efficiencies of concrete retrofit with externally-bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) fabrics. The primary objective is to determine effective concrete-repair and CFRP-retrofit approaches for rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete bridge girders, based on …

A theoretical basis for measuring implementation as well as an initial set of dimensions of implementation was identified during …

The Partisan Politics That Led To The Spanish-American War, Donald E. Thompson Jr. Dec 2008

The Partisan Politics That Led To The Spanish-American War, Donald E. Thompson Jr.

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This thesis explores how partisan politics played a major role in leading the United States into the Spanish-American War. With the unprecedented economic depression that began in 1893, many American politicians exploited a rebellion in Cuba to distract Americans from their own financial problems. During the administration of Grover Cleveland politicians from all political parties supported American intervention in Cuba on behalf of the rebels. This show of support for the Cuban rebels by politicians was designed to rally the American public around a common cause and highlight the difference between them and the unpopular President Cleveland who opposed American …
